Watching all your videos regarding diy hifi cables.
Considering doing it for my own setup and your videos really help ! thank you
Finally, I received all the things and DIY two power cables for my pre amp and amp. Great improvement! Amazing! Thank you, Sir!
Thanks for the info and taking the time to share your cable builds. I'm auditioning a Mogami W3104 power cable I built tonight as I write this and it's head and shoulders over the Audioquest cable powering my Marantz integrated amp previously. In fact, I'm now all DIY cables on your recommendation. I'm now using Belden 8402 interconnects and Canare 4s11 speaker cables in place of other Audioquest cables and your videos of the Bowers & Wilkins 607 drove me to move to the 606 this summer as well. You'r one of the most down to earth audiophiles on RUclips and you're advice and reviews are some of the best around. Your videos are very much appreciated!
Thank you for sharing.
@@Tharbamar Hey Thomas...if my Lg Oled is the source of tidal...what is the proper order... out of tv optical output should I go into a DAC then into my integrated amplifier analog input or main input but that has a jumper for pre out -main in... if I remove jumper I have no sound coming out of the right or left speaker...depending what jumper I pull out...I'm confused...please help me learn...thanks!
@@briancampbell7712 Jumper has to stay in place, you just have to connect DAC analog out to regular analog input on amplifier.
The jumper is to use separate Pre or Power stage with external pre or power amps.
@@Tharbamar thanks so much my friend Thomas😁...I don't think I'll need to use those pre out and main in...since I have an integrated amplifier...Vincent SV-737...is that correct?
I want to thank you for sharing the info , this is invaluable information for those like me that want quality but cannot afford to pay the high prices that rich people do
Very welcome.
I just ordered three Oyaide Black Mamba Sigma V2 direct from Japan. And I have a bunch of that Mogamai wire you mentioned in a box that I was going to use for speaker cable. It will now be repurposed for power cables. I have the Venus II 12th coming, and was impressed that I could hear a sound difference in your video. And when looking to build this same cable, it was about the same price assembled when all was said and done.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for showing a correctly shielded (shield connected to ground on ONE end) power cable.
Great! You really use the Mogami 3104 as power cable.
Looking forward to the comparison.

I’m making a white one for my computers psu. Beautiful.
i wanna do this any tips
Looks great, would love this on my vintage heathkit tube amps
Perfect for the electric kettle
I've made power cables from 14 AWG solid core wire from the hardware store using similar components. Makes an amazing difference in my power amps and even my PC, when it is the music source.
What "difference" does it make?
@@HardwareAddiction Try it. If you hear no difference, fine. I hear a surprising improvement in every way. End.

Great work, thank you.
Very informative. Thanks for this...
Again, very useful and this will save me from the most common audio snake oil. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can I use Mogami W3104 to make a power cord with ground? If so, which wire (s) would you use for ground and which one(s) for Live vs Neutral wire(s)? Many thanks.
Hi, your DIY videos are fantastic. those links listed are not working. could you pls let us know the links for cables and connectors ? thanks
Learned a lot from your DIY video. Now I'm doing this with speaker cables. What's the size ratio of the sheathing and the speaker cable if the speaker cable is 14mm?
Thank you!
Would appreciate a video on DIY audiophile XLR cables.
You are the man!
The oyaide AC cable has a shield AND a drain wire - to they both connect to the earth at the wall end?
Some shops on aliexpress have local stores in Hong Kong and sell fancy hifi cable for less than auctions at ebay in Europe end. These auctions have inappropiate fixed price options as well.
Very good, thank you.
Awesome ... Thanks for the video ... 😎
I see the cable for the amp is not shielded. However as this has the highest current flowing through it, do you not want that to be shielded so as not to cause interference with low current interconnects (DAC to amplifier etc). Nice video.
Does the model # of the Oyaide plugs determine what gauge wire can be used. I bought p79/c79 using 10 gauge wire have a tough time inserting wire.
That's a very interesting vid Tharby.
Power cords are like tone controls, they can either enhance or detract from the sound...it all depends on the particular components used and where you place your power cable(s). Caution must always be used when mixing or matching various cables! It is also wise to change them in or out incrementally to discern whatever changes. I currently have a power cord on my amplifier and power conditioner, but used nowhere else. A noticeable improvement of dynamics was the biggest change with a darker/silent background. Cheers!
rubbish ...you dont listen to the AC,its converted to DC to supply the amp/dac etc...conditioners are another fraud....

@@DistroUser palcebo and the manufacturers of this snake oil know it and love it when you spend your cash on this rubbish. The ac that goes through the power cord is destroyed, coverted into DC, its science.

Enjoy all your videos.
Could you do a video on a power cord with ground for an amplifier.
Thank you, Lou
The White Oyaide Cable is with the ground, I also have shielded power cord video, thanks
Enjoyed your video and your professional builds! After watching your speacker & RCA wire builds! I now know! I didn't know crap about proper stereo wiring! Just the difference of the sound coming from an old school speaker with 15" woofers compared to a 5.1 or 7.1 with a subwoofer! The later sounds great for movies! But the old school speakers & vinyl you can feel the bass in your balls! Just think how better it'll sound with the proper wiring?? Thanks again for your knowledge!! Sinn Fein Byrne
Thanks for sharing. Love to hear that, thank you.
Good share..It's cheaper to buy factory terminated.. Oyaide and acrolink is both value for money. Also.. The shield foil should be connected at plug end only..there is a huge difference. Don't buy fake or china its very simbilant and lightweight in sound..if going cheap just get hubbell
Hi. Nice video. I have an Accuphase C-240 Preamplifier and would like to make a decent quality power cord. It has the old 2 prong socket on the unit. Are there new female plugs that will fit this unit? When I bought the unit it included a very light weight third party power cord and I'm sure it affects the sound quality. Thanks for your anticipated response.
Very nice video and thanks. It seems for the real one, you can buy a1.8m black mamba 004 connectors cable product at even cheaper price than diy. It might maintain better resale value with box and receipt. Any idea?
Would using Electrical House Solid Core Wire (non shielded), be better than stock power cables?
What gauge would be ideal?
So, to understand it correctly, can i use mogami 3104 and just ignore one of these four cables and make a grounded power cable? just one for hot, one for neutral and one for ground?
live and natural has to be together proferably straight not twisted .but ground should be seperated from the cables .if you put it even near the live or natural its like shooting your on leg .AND NEVER EVER TWIST THE GROUND WIRE .BIG MISTAKE...THE BEST GROUNDING IS FLAT FOILS LIKE COPPER OR SILVER....
Have you ever looked into upgrading the wall plug circuit to a 20amp from 15 amp with heavier AWG copper to it from the panel?
If you can, start with running 10 awg wire (10awg 1-40 feet, 8awg 40-60, 6awg 60+), 15A breaker typically fine for most(20A breaker good too), 20A receptacles are better for not much more, 20A receptacles throughout the house is really the way to go. Even better use Hospital grade receptacles for Audio gear.
I have a Marantz SR8015 and would like to build power cables do you have any suggestion on the parts and/or build thanks
It is important to have a ground wire connected at the power end. This is both for safety and to bleed some EMI to ground. If the amp itself isn't grounded to power, it isn't necessary to connect ground at that end but you may as well do so as that way, the lead can be used with power grounded equipment as well. This just good practice to prevents confusion over grounding. Paul of PS audio says that tightly shielding an amp cable is detrimental to the amp's dynamic performance however, distancing the shield further out from the conductors overcomes this and significantly reduces EMI leakage to surrounding equipment. This means that the amp power lead ends up about an inch thick. I have also come across people who prefer to plat (braid) the active, neutral and ground wires together rather than twist. Note that while the ground wire should be connected at both ends, the shield should be lifted at the amp end and grounded at the power end.
Thanks for the advice, ground is not necessary for two pins power cables, not all components are designed to use with ground connection.
I also have PS Audio AC-12 & AC-5 power cords and my DIY cables sound better than AC-5 and very close to AC-12 in terms of performance.
Mogami base cable in this video is for two pins power cables not to use with ground connection unless they want to lift the ground.
Thanks
Edit: I made two type of power cables in this video, one is grounded and one is for two pins power cable.
So on the power side, to the wall, wrap the ground wire to the neutral wire? But on the IEC side, to the equipment, do you simply cut back the ground wire? Would it harm anything if you wrapped the ground wire to the neutral wire on the IEC side?
Need your help on setting up karaoke system...what system should I begin wtih? XD

Do high quality power bars have similar effects on audio and video equipment?
Thank you, this is very valuable information. I’m planning to make all your cables. Can you clarify if W3104 can be used both for speaker cable and power cord as you’ve used?
Yes you can use W3104, it will work great.
Thank you! Then I can order for speakers and power both from redco. Much easier. 👍🏽
I like Oyaide😀
whats a good alternative to oyaide cables if ground is needed? thanks
I’m enjoying your cable videos, thank you. I’m interested in bare wire speaker cables. Can you recommend wire for bare wire?
@Jingle Nuts No I set no price limits, just asker the OP a question which was ignored
The screw heads of Dualshock 4 are flat, too. Rounded ones are cheaper, especially with different or no coating.
Thank-You for the video. I noticed you connected the copper shield wire to the green ground wire on the male connector side, but on the IEC connector I did not see what you you did with the copper shield wire. Can you explain? Thank-You
Yes, lifting the shield ground on IEC is for better noise control by draining all the noise to the ground on wall side.
The shielding looks automotive. I've seen it on wiring under the hood so an Auto Value or parts store should have it. As well a trip to a pick and pull should give you as much as you want
Why do you use UNSHIELDED wire for power amplifier? I would think the EMF fields are a problem? Very curious.
How do you know if you need a grounded or ungrounded cable? I want to make a power cable for my Sennheiser HDV 820 DAC/AMP but I'm not sure if it needs to be grounded or not.
you can see on the device to which you want to connect the cable if you have 2 connectors or 3. However you can just make a grounded cable and use that on both grounded and non-grounded devices
Would it be a good idea making a power cable from canare 4s11?
are you using the real oyaide for 100-125V or 220-250V? their spec says P-004 for 125V, only P-004e for 250V. thank you
My Macintosh MA6300 has a factory 3 pin cable. Can I use the Mogami style cable?
Great job ! And I agree a lot of cables are over priced most companys are just a middle man that buys cables from china ! But Being an electrian for 8 years and now a Maintenance man of Montaplast of north America for the last 8 years I can tell ya a dedicated circuit 30-amp from your breaker panel to you electrical Wall receptacle (Ps-audio) will produce the best results for you even better than bigger power cables But once you do both ohh myyy!!
Will it still benefit from having dedicated circuit because I have my own transformer for my house?
Tharbamar yes because your running several receptacles (Power plugs )off of one dedicated 20-30 amp breaker Electrians can use up to 8 receptacles by US code is with in regulation ,so other words your pulling power for many things on one dedicated circuit, ok when you had your big Parasound setup did you ever notice when you had the volume up and the dynamics in a song would get loud did you see any of your lights flicker or dim ? Even if you didn't your still starving and robbing your amps full potential by not having a dedicated circuit for just 1 or 2 receptacles , Me and OCD HI-Fi guy had a long discussion on this topic Go dedicated circuit ! (Basically in a house one power wire from your Breaker box hooked to a 20-amp breaker runs out with one power wire that is daisy chain to lots of wall power inlets which adds interference and robs power to our big power amps if you just use 1 or 2 receptacles on a 20-30 amp breaker you'll have better cleaner power and less interference , some people use power conditioners which may help a lil but a dedicated circuit is the way to go , this is how I did my set up I had to with my monster power hungry Integra Amp my lights were flickering to the beat of my music lol Hope this help I tried to simplify Sorry for the book I wrote
I never had anything like flickering lights or dimming effects, never had unusual behavior with Parasound set up but lights dim a little when I turn my Denon Amp on, that’s about it. Thanks I will keep that in mind for next House.
Tharbamar appreciate all your input on audio reviewing ,your doing a great job , ohh you just have dining on start up with your lights ? Compasitors charging up!! Lol
Wire geometry is a big factor in reducing capacitance and induction.
What is the shield thing on the wall side ? Why only one side ? It may be obvious to you but I don't get it.
All the interference that the shield picks up must go to ground!!! And don't come back to the amplifier or cd player
I would of tinned the wire ends before inserting them and tightening them down as copper oxidizes and increases resistance. Also, you don't risk crushing fine stranded wire that way.
for the first type with the shielding on the wall side, do you just trim that off at the iec side?
Yes you only connect earth on the plug side and cut it back on the IEC end
I’m not sure if my 300B tube amps are grounded, so can I just ground the Mogami on both ends?
Yes if you need it you can add it, I stated in the video, thanks
Hello, I really appreciate you work and I'm watching your films with a lot of curiosity. I'm planning to build Power Cable for my old CD player T+A CD 1200 R using IEC C7 connector suitable only for 2 wires, how do you think does the Mogami W3104 used for this purpose will improve performance of my CD player compared to a stock 1$ cable? Kind regards :)
Does anybody have any recommendations for a UK termination equivalent of the Oyaide products.
I have ordered the Black Mamba & Ferrite connectors to make my own.
Mr Tharbamar you videos are very genuine, authentic & your DIY vids are truely easy to understand. In fact after watching them, i have also order Mogami 3082 to make my own speaker cable & Jumpers. Iv purcased the Canare 4s11 biwire (made the biggest difference i have ever distinguished from a cable) The Belden 8402 & the Canare L -4E6S.
Truely thankyou for your exellent insight & expert advice ✌️ 15:02
Nice
So am I correct in assuming that when building a power cable for your AVR and/or power amplifier (for example, I have a Marantz SR6014 and Emotiva BasX A3) you'd use the ground-lifted construction? Would there be any harm in using the first, grounded construction for those components?
Yes ground lifted cables are to use with components without ground pin.
Did you ever upload the follow-up video? I also have a Marantz SACD player.
Yes I will, I’m working on it, thanks
How do you plug them into anything? You wouldn't be able to plug in other components.
can the power cable 3104 for a tube integrated amp be assembled per your video here, meaning no ground connection on both end ? thanks .
Yes, if your amplifier doesn’t require ground, thanks
Do you have any suggestions for an even more expensive bulk DIY power cable?
LMAO
how long are these cables?
"Make sure your polarity is correct otherwise you may have big problems" - as long as you don't confuse earth with live, you won't. Neztral and live are the same for an AC system.
(Mind you, I'm not saying it doesn't matter if you plug in your cord correctly, which affects sound quality - but for the same reason mixing up live with neutral won't harm your system).
i would like make an enquirey do you make and sell the oyaide power cable ?
Nice looking but power cables have NO effect on the sound unless you have a cord that is making a bad connection. In most all neighborhoods everything your neighbors have hooked up is connected to your house wiring. The secondary of the power co. trans. feeds multiple houses. The first thing inside audio components is a isolation device, (a transformer) so whats between the wall and the device, as long as it makes a good connection is all for looks. After that cables in the signal chain matter.
The plugs look great. Thing is, I get it with interconnects and speakers but don't tells us you need this or u will have problems. This is nothing, unless you have your entire house wired with this instead of the 12 or 14/2 wire windings through your entire house before it reaches your outlets. Looks good though.
Great cables ! But they would of been better with ferrite filter on both sides of each wire 👍👍👍 Cleaner electricity for your equipment )
Thanks for the advice but It will not give me better sound because I do not have problems with noise interference and it will only benefit to components with poor power supplies I have my own whole house power transformer that I get cleaner power supply than the most.thanks
@@Tharbamar Nice ! 👍
Do you know any 2 prong audiophile quality cables?
Hi Mr. Tharbamar, I just finished my power cable and I am very happy because it really made a very nice improvement in the midrange and mid bass frequencies: more open and precise. According to your experience, is it worth to change the power cord of the source (cd and network players) also? I hope it’s worth, because the look very cool :D . Thanks
Great 👍🏼 Sometimes they do make significantly different by changing the cables, Thanks
You are imagining it.
Is mogami speaker 3401 rated for 240v. Compliance? My recommendation, use Belden 83803, or another compliance’s shielded power lead. So many things are wrong with this tutorial.
With 4mm² its capability is close to 3800 watts with 240v and a 16A fuse. So I believe it will do the job gallantly.
Such cables usualy have 660V rating. So everything below is OK.
How do I know if my component requires a grounded or ungrounded power cable?
if you have 3 pins in the back of component power input you need grounded AC power cord.
@Tharbamar Can the Mogami 3401 be used for the grounded build? What is the difference between the two wires in your testing
Yes you can add dedicated ground wire lope around W3104 from end to end counter lope from twisted main conductors and put on the nylon jacket over it to use it as grounded AC cord.
Mogami also has 6 cores cable 2919 and 8 cores 2941, but 3104 is the most common cable.
Beyond Oyaide and Furutech, what other grounded cable manufacturer can you recommend that has a lower price point.
Audiocrast or Monosaudio offer good quality ac power cables.
hello, pardon my ignorance but how do you guys deal with equipment without an IEC inlet ? like my receiver for example, the only way for me to make this happen would be to open up said receiver and solder the power cable.... any ideas ?
Best thing for those with permanently attached power cable is isolation transformer, thanks
@@Tharbamar ok thank you !!
@@Tharbamar well, you have isolation tranformer in all the audio gear, thats why power cable doesn't need shielding ,just the proper gauge.
Very informative video. But may ask: what if my stereo receiver's power inlet got 2 pins only like IEC C8?
You can also build your own without ground connection.
@@Tharbamar but would it defeat the purpose of building this high quality thick shielded cable if there will be no grounding system for my stereo receiver? I thought the ground wire is necessary to cancel any ground loop that cause buzzing or humming.
@@jefnav7460 if you don't have ground pin on your component IEC there is no benefit, you can only use it for shield and drain.
@@Tharbamar Ok. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
On the female plug...you don't use the shield + Ground (Only ground) ?
I have this same question. On the IEC end you just leave the shield unconnected?
It’s called a drain wire usually only on the one side which is plugging into the wall. This effectively gets the noise out of the component injects the noise back into the mains.
I will install _audiophile lights_ in my room, the photons and the preassure of atmosphere in Mexico City 7200 ft, the air molecules impulsed with sound waves make the sound increase the modulation of frequencies once the speakers cone and suspension are in contact with the temperature and room light.
Very admirable 👍 👍
Good Job Bro i make my cable also
Nice, thanks
Will this type of plug work for computers? I have a PC that I use for audio I think this might help a bit for noise.
The white cable is more suited for your need.
Depend if you using USB? in that case you need a USB isolator like this:(iFi iPurifier3 USB Audio and Data Signal Filter) otherwise you have noise like me.
Do you only join the shield to the ground wire on the male end only? Why?
Otherwise not point of shielding.
In the end of video, you got an industrial welding machine power cord.
Also. Would you consider the Mogami 3082 to make a 'better' or maybe better to say easier to essemble for a novice, then the Mogamil 3104.

When your home burns down because you are trying to save a couple of dollars think about my post. Buy Power Cable from a trusted source. Like Sonic Craft.
Hi Tharbamar. Very nice video! One question relates to the plugs: why did you choose the Oyaide knock-offs when you could have gone with something like HiFiKing CC-18 & PU-18 sold at the same price on Amazon?
or even these which are also knock-offs sold from same dealer in US: Oyaide P-037
whizzbang because I preferred Oyaide design, thanks
@@Tharbamar Good reason;-) So you like the P-029 better than the P-037?
whizzbang No particular reason, I only choose base on the same design of genuine Oyaide plugs I already have.
Any competent electrical engineer knows that the proper power connection is not just an electrical interference problem from the power cord... it is from the line to the home, also. The modern use of line conditioning is a very technical problem to solve... but not usually for a sound system, unless there is a huge power requirement. A laboratory could use a complete power source treatment, yet a home audio system would triple the typical cost of the system to implement. A true isolation transformer (ground lead from output is open) fed from a Tripplite power strip, and an output over voltage circuit on the of the isolation transformer would do. That would work on a low power installation if the isolation transformer is rated at least twice the power rating of the load.
Anybody know a seller that sells a similar quality already made cable on eBay or Amazon? You can find them for like 20 bucks on eBay thanks anyway for the tutorial
You can buy Oyaide Black Mamba for around $2-300 but you’ll not find 6AWG Power Cable with Neglex Copper for sure.
what about the rest of the power wires in my walls from the circuit breaker?
LMAO!
Better yet what about the cable coming from the transformer outside supplied by the electric provider? I don't think I can talk them into installing a cable from Audioquest or PS Audio lol. 👍
You could also have used ferrules for firmer contact!
do i really need to have the sleeving on? will it affect the sound?
No, just for extra protection.
@@Tharbamar ok thanks! Going to try making with 4 core cables
2 wires for live and 2 wires for neutral and no ground hookup? is that safe or legal?
Yes 100%, many equipment come with same design.
So what's the difference with grounded and shielded vs not grounded and shielded?
What difference does one notice?
What brand power cable can I buy that is not so expensive and a very good quality?
Oyaide, Pangea, iFi would be good choices.
@@Tharbamar thanks👍🏼
