Great rundown Jay!! - I have heard a single RCA change the sonic signature of a system.. Power cables included! Well done sir.. :) PS - The Typhons are kicking ass in my systems!! Kelly was REALLY vibbing with them the other day in my studio system... :) Cheers and Happy Sunday...
Obviously every system is going to be different. A $1,000 system may not translate a cable difference while a $100,000 may. More importantly is that a person hears everything in their head. literally. Every ear is complex and different. Every synapses nerve junction is different. And every brain translates that synapses signal differently. The brain translates all sensory information differently depending on how the person grew in their environment and their unique body. So everything you hear is indeed in your head. If you hear a difference then you hear a difference. Even if it is a placebo effect you still hear it. No one person can tell another what they can or cannot hear. If you can’t hear a difference then don’t worry about it. If you can then indulge.
while I agree with what you said, it is a common misconception that (only) on more expensive systems you hear significant difference/improvement. In my experience it is the old/cheap amps that greatly benefits from better cables for speakers or power, while higher/newer models doesn't seem to be affected as much.
@@harisjaved1379 yes it is that complex. It has nothing about going to the moon. That’s just a strange analogy. But the human body and more importantly the human brain is extremely complex and unique.
People should not be so damn judgemental. Each to their own. I was always sceptical about cables. I loaned a few cables from an audio dealer. After a couple of weeks. It was clear to my ears that one particular model was ahead of the rest with superior bass, width & dynamics. It was enough to convert me into spending above my planned budget.
You're so lucky in having such a great dealer that will lend you for trial testing. I strongly believe that we can have that opportunity in trying to test products hooked up to our own rigs, the results will let us clearly know what is worth investing, in improving sound quality.
Same for me. I met someone local that was interested in buying a dac. We ended up becoming friends and he let me borrow a lot of cables through the years, but it was through him letting me borrow that i was able to realize cables do make a difference. I must admit the differences are very subtle, some for the better and some for worse and some for better and worse(such as Duelund DIY power cables giving me lots of air but very sibilant and i can not bear sibilance). The big differences happen when you go from a basic/stock cable to your first audio purpose built cable. When you start to compare that cable with more expensive cables is where it starts to get subtle and you run into diminishing returns/or completely mismatched sound to what you prefer such as some cables being bass heavy and warm vs one that is lacking in bass but extremely airy but analytical and cold etc
Eh. Several years ago my entire audio setup was my headphone system, attached to my PC. I eventually upgraded my surge protector to a Furman Elite 15 DMI power conditioner. I wasn't sure if I would hear a difference or not. I didn't. A while later, one of the headphone RUclipsrs recommended Audiocrast power cables. They're $30-35 on Amazon. Heavy gauge, shielded, solid plugs. Nothing wold. I decided to dress up my system a little and bought 4. I used them on my PC, my DAC, my solid state headphone amp and my tube headphone amp. After installing the power cables, I noticed the gap between the solid state amp and the tube amp had narrowed. The solid state seemed cleaner and more open. The tube amp didn't seem to benefit. If anything, it felt a little bit stifled, but I think that's just because the solid state was catching up. So now, I just use these cables for all my audio equipment. Even though I heard a difference with a bunch of $30 cables, I'm still not willing to spend hundreds each.
Im not sure why people are afraid to do an analysis on cables. It's rather trivial. Hook up an oscilloscope to the Amps output and record the sine wave. Swap cable or other component repeat test. Then in a program like audacity, take both sine waves, invert 1 and see if you get a flat line or not. If yes. You've proven no differences at the pre amp / DAC / other output. If no. Then there is a measurable difference. This test wount tell you good/bad/ or what difference you have. But it will prove/disprove an alteration to the sonic output. Subjective audio testing has to be done blind as there is alot of confirmation bias and 'wanting' to have an impact beces i spent the $$$.
That's a 'null' test. 2 signals out of phase eliminates commonality and only outputs difference. I've tried speaking to "audiophiles" about this but apparently there's other things going on that a null test cannot show. I've no idea what else they think is going on other than electricity but some people like to make money off lies. Sad eh.
Would electronic analysis reveal speed characteristics? In my experience power cables can sound very different in the speed they impart to the music played.
It's pretty obvious isn't it, they are concerned at all the negative comments from the cable nasayers who troll these forums. I'm not an electrical engineer but I would think any test conducted would be for RFI, EMI or any other interference or extraneous noise and not for frequency response. Confirmation bias doesn't affect everyone so it is a subjective thing, for example everyone was giving audiolabs DC blocker very good reviews online so I purchased one. It arrived nicely packaged, well built, and solid construction, plugged it in and immediately could tell my well sorted system sounded worse, there was no doubt it changed the sound but in my system it had a negative impact on performance. In this instance if confirmation bias was in play I should have thought it sounded better, I have had the same result with several mains conditioners I tried and people buy amplifiers and CD players then want to return or exchange them the next day or after a short period of time .
Hey, I’m with you Jay. I hear difference under some conditions.. I hear the most consistent improvement with high-quality power cords with sensitive digital sources like dac or streamer . i generally hear a minimal difference, connecting power amps to expensive power cords.
You have to be brave to video 'Cable Theory ' great Job Jay ' Most important to me is not letting no cables touch !! And making sure my cables are shielded very well to help with RF interference and i try to use the shortest cables as possible for shortest signal path 🤣 ' - I know some will say snake oil because we cant yet electronically measure the cables besides inductance resistance and compasitance but we can measure amps freq response and THD but we still cant measure if an amp sounds warm netural or cool But we all hear the difference ! P.S. my nearfield room has decaded circuit for audio only 30amp ' makes a diffence not having lamps/phone chargers ectect in that direct dedicated home run . Thanks buddy
Personal recommendation based on my own experience. Run a dedicated spur to your system from the distribution box using a good quality high current capability shielded cable, I did this using a 15m run of Lapp cable when I decorated my man cave and It has had benefits. Once I realised that was the case I invested in Lapp cables for my equipment, no further expense is justifiable in my eyes on a £25,000 system. If I had enough money to blow on cables thicker than my aorta, I'd sponsor a charity instead ;).
Very sceptical about power cables. Did my own, 4mm (*3) shielded, proper earthing, and premium plugs. For me it was more important to get a direct feed from the power MCB distribution box.
Thanks for sharing. I own tube and solid state mono block amps. From my experience upgrading from standard power cable to Audioquest RNG-Y3, Z3, Monsoon for all components including 2 line conditioners. Its not about a musical value. Improve current delivery, reduce RF, noise dispersion interference. My system has a cleaner power delivery in soundstage width and depth with improved imaging accuracy. Nuances will vary per hifi system. Hope this helps. Cheers
When does a Power Cable , become a component?? Many think this is the stuff of snake oil, because many of these offerings asking enormous amount of money, dint make a doffernece at all…an audible one. Thambar reviewed the Viborg - MTR1501, now the VP1501, and pointed out the very low cost of the extremely well constructed cable. He said of the entire suite of Viborg cables he was testing, the Power Cable made a vast improvement in the Soundstage and imaging, and vocals were more up front. At a third of the price, of GR Cables, i snagged one open box off Ebay for 85 Bucks…. It was unreal as my AS801 went from very good sounding to “reference”. I was aghast as was the woman i was with at the time. Get a pair of these Viborgs and A/B them against the GR Cables. They aren’t just a Power Cable, but a Component. I have two of them. The increase in the density of the Black-space was astounding…
I have the room to move the speakers they are about 8 inch from the wall currently. The problem , I can hardly pick them up, and I have an uneven slate floor. So if I move, it then takes a lo....ng time to adjust the spikes which are underneath. It's not something to do on a Saturday afternoon. Probably not something for the 5 week annual vacation time either. Great video
I don't know much about cables, but i noticed a lot of these high end cables usually use some kind of basic stranded copper for the live and neutral connections, but some special wire for the ground. It just seems like more of the cost goes into the ground, but yet isn't most of our gear ungrounded? I dont recall any of my amps or preamps or dacs having a ground connection at the iec inlet. It's usually the power conditioners/isolation transformer/regenerator or distributor that is grounded so i sort of talked myself into only paying big money for the cable that goes from my isolation transformer to the wall and the rest are just litz type 2 prong cables plugging into the transformer. As i also understand it, shielded cables aren't really necessary outside of possible extra noise rejection on a digital source?
If you had to pick between the Arendal 1723 or the css 1tdx or 3tdx which would you pick? Got the arendal and css both in cart been up all night trying to decide. In your professional opinion what would be a better choice.
Both are fantastic choices. Two main things I would consider. 1. If ur room is big, Arendal 1723 thx or 3tdx is a great choice 2. If you have a power amplifier that’s pretty powerful, I’d say 3tdx or 1tdx with subs depending on the size of your room. If you have less of a powerful amp (like a low power tube amp), Arendals are more sensitive so it may be a better choice.
l love my 2 iFi Supanova power cables with active noise cancelling for my Parasound 2100 preamp and Denafrips Pontus II 12th-1 dac. source=Apple Music lossles
Hey Jay…..Really appreciated your comments on music content and resolution of one’s system. Agree that poor recordings and mass rock presentations won’t make a huge difference. My greatest change was dedicated hi grade outlets wired into a single breaker in the home. Most won’t have the option on this…..but wow….what a difference. It’s all about the “grunge” in your wiring.
Metal and other über-dense material, done right ... truly benefits from a ton of rig! I've experienced such material on big flush mounted studio mains, with all the resolution and dynamic capability to resolve each element of a well executed dense mix. It simply takes so much system to do those pieces of music justice. Same situation with the biggest orchestral powerhouse recordings. Material I've never cared for because its so densely busy ... opens up wonderfully.
Fun video Jay! I'm to say the least skeptical about the claims made for high end audio cables, but the caveats you give at the beginning of the video are fair enough. And it's fun that you tried a blind test too. I once had a range of expensive AC cables to try out (Shunyata ) that reviewers had raved about. I didn't hear any difference with two of them, but the most expensive one (and the thickest) *seemed* to alter the sound of my system, obviously. It was more subtle, lush, darker, richer. I wasn't even sure I preferred it to my normal AC cables. But also, knowing about bias as a factor I had an engineer friend help me do a randomized blind test, swapping between that expensive AC cable and the standard $15 AC cable I'd been using. Well...to no surprise...those "obvious" sonic differences vanished. There was no "darker, more lush" sonic signature for me to tell one from another, they sounded identical and my guesses were random. Had I not bothered to test myself this way I may well have gone down the route of paying thousands for AC cables. (Which...I might have, if in fact real sonic benefits were there). Some people think their ears are Too Golden to be devieved, and the high end cable market serves such customers. Others think "yeah I could be wrong but all I care about is if I seem to hear a difference." Fair enough. Plenty of us, though, like to have a good basis on where we are spending our precious money, so we can allocate it to where real performance differences will occur.
Yea! Your experience and points are very valid and I’m glad you tried! For me though, I’ve done several blind tests like these out of my own interest and have gotten mixed results. 16/20 for this one is actually more than I expected to get… But you know… like I said, half of this hobby is art. Folks that’s more set on objective data are going to call the “art” side bullshit, and that’s fine too (I’m not here to change anyone’s mind or to enforce my findings) But since you wrote me your experience and thoughts here (that I enjoyed very much), let me share with you my simple thoughts on “why I still use audiophile cables despite no measurable data” I am a neuroscientist (that’s my day job) and I can for sure tell you that each of our sensors are not independent but reliant on each other. Just like a computer… yes you can measure just the Ram or gpu but it simply won’t work or work optimally if u take one out of the equation. And yes you can fool your brain as demonstrated many times. But is that such a bad thing as people make it to be is the question. what I found interesting is that when you “measure” brain activity of someone listening (sighted) to pretty cables (that is believed to change sonics qualities) vs stock, it is obvious that it makes a difference to the brain activity. So… yes. Maybe you are fooling yourself brain. Maybe it is placebo. Maybe it’s not. But at the end of the day, this is why I say I respect and love the “art” side of this hobby. After-all, aren’t we all trying to do the same thing in our stereo? To fool our brains to have something not really there (the artist, the real performance) in our system? Thank you for coming to my ted talk
And let me make it clear… when I say… “sensors are reliant on each other and don’t work properly without one” I don’t mean blind or deaf people. This is a different case where prolongs defect in a sensor will re-route the brain to allow other sensors to fill in that defect. The brain is crazy complex but crazy interesting thing!
@@Jayiyagi Thanks for the interesting reply Jay. I think we are close to on the same page. It's my view that if you want the most reliable knowledge about how audio gear performs, then measurements combined with careful listening tests (preferably bias controlled) is best. So: Science and Engineering over the Golden Ear method, when seeking reliable knowledge. HOWEVER, no audiophile HAS to engage with measurements or science or controlled listening tests in order to enjoy the hobby the way they want! While rigorous testing is the gold standard, in a practical sense it's impossible for most of our choices, be it every day decisions or decisions about audio gear. Anyone can take any approach, or mix of approaches, they want. I've done blind testing through the years on various gear - AC cables, video cables, DACs/CDPs, Music Servers etc. I mentioned in another of your videos that I'm a tube amp guy - Conrad Johnson Premier 16LS2 preamp/CJ Premier 12 monoblocks. I even recently blind tested my CJ tube preamp vs my other Benchmark LA4 premp. Because I think I NEEDED to in order to "do the hobby right?" No. Simply because I was curious and it was fun (I easily identified the CJ 29 out of 30 times). I don't normally blind test everything I have, far from it. But sometimes I do out of curiosity or if I'm dealing with a puzzling problem. I LOVE your comment about the relevance of the Placebo effect and neurology/mind-body connection (especially has I happen to be reading books about that at the moment). I have long incorporated that in to my approach. For instance, some "objectivists" (and I cound myself as one) think that hearing differences between tube amps and SS is mostly a bias effect. I say: that certainly may be the case (before I blind tested) but if so, the bias effect has been SO strong and reliable in the 20 years I've owned my tube amps...I'm grateful for it! Likewise I got in to tube rolling only a few years ago. Some deny it makes a difference, but there is some level of plausibility and in any case, my view is I'm not doing science in enjoying my system: I'm doing whatever is fun, whatever makes it "sound better" to me. Changing tubes may be a bias effect, but I'm happy to acknowledge that variable and possibility, and if so I'm happy taking advantage of it. So I don't think any audiophile has to practice the hobby in any particular way but the one he/she enjoys. The only distinction I make is that when one is making positive claims - e.g. "this AC cable has technology that lowers distortion in an audible way" - then I personally am going to want a higher bar for evidence than "I heard it" - if I find the claim dubious. Cheers!
@@QuintEssential-sz2wnthanks for sharing! Was an interesting read. On the last point regarding proof of lower noise on the cable’s geometry, there is a measurement by a person named amir from audio science reviews that shows that.
@@Jayiyagi I'm a long time member of the ASR forum. I enjoy what I learn there and try not to be dogmatic about things. Given your day job and your hobby, seems like you have a very interesting life! Well done! Peace out.
For usb, Quality clocks are a big deal, also electrostatic and electromagnetic isolation is key commonly known as galvanic isolation. The microchip has to be audio dedicated and the coding has to be top notch. Look at Schiit audio dacs and their usb tech.
370 to 450 might be a lot cheaper than many exotics, but still too damn expensive for a power cable. I like Maze Audio---165.00. Cullen Cable used to be good too, but ';m not sure they are readily available anymore.
anything a person can do to lower the noise floor on the AC mains is going to help. Power cables, power line filters, even a simple .01uf high voltage cap across the hot to neutral will help.
Very interesting video. I have only been looking and reading into the whole audiophile topic for a few months now, so I am aware I don't really know anything. For power cords I don't know, if the difference is subjectively only "subtle" - is it really worth it? If the difference isn't big enough to nail the blind ABX test 100% all of the time is it really an "improvement"? I would want the difference to be such a massive improvement, where I couldn't ever be "fooled" by the stock cord.
Using the binomial test formula to calculate the p-value of 16/20 correct guesses, you get 0.0059, or a 0.59% chance of this result being pure chance. That's definitely statistically significant, considering 0.05 is the typical threshold in most fields. You don't have to get 90-95% right for statistical significance if you do enough trials. If you did 100 trials, you would only need to get 59% correct to pass the 0.05 threshold, or 64% correct to beat the statistical significance of your 16/20 score.
I love my power cables:) I wish you can rent them to experiment with your system. My favorite power cable is my Pangea AC9SE. Mind blowing but very thick…like a water hose! I also love Audioquest.
Jay, you've got to thank your girlfriend for all that work, man. She either loves you, or is an audiophile just like you. Either way my friend, you're winning.
Really enjoyed this video. Very truthful and honest. Please thank your girlfriend. She must be very patient and caring for you. I don’t know too many women that would go through all the ´trouble’ to help make such a video. Also, I would imagine that you will be giving a review of the Totem Bison Twin Towers soon. I have an identical pair. I just love them and so does my wife… of more than 50 years…. The speakers sound great especially after 100+ hours of burning in. They do something differently from any other speakers I have owned so far. Waiting for your review to see if you experience the same thing. Thanks again.
Audioscience freaks come out. Can't really say until you have tried it. Someone once told me a watt is a watt when speaking of amplifiers. Complete bullshit!
I don't need to stand in the middle of the road to know that if I get hit by a car I will be either severely injured or killed. I just don't need to do it ! Likewise for mains cables I don't need to try other cables when there is zero audio signal information passed down a mains cable and all of the filtering it claims to do is done by the equipment it is connected to. I just don't need to try other cables period ! Go back to school and learn something for a change. Like they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing :(
Hi Jay, I have been following you on your journey and have the best amps i've experienced the AGD Audions because of it, Thank You!! I have a suggestion for a video for you. There is alot of interest in speaker isolation feet lately and Stack audio (getting stellar reviews) offers these feet in 3 sizes. the AUVA 50, 70 and 100's. It would be cool to know firstly is there a difference in general and the differences between the 3 sizes. Stack audio seems willing to send them for review. Cheers!
Apart from the distribution board (if you use one) it's difficult to place an order of priority when choosing your first component to receive a better power cord. Why?, well it depends upon which of your components is most in need of assistance. Some amplifiers (Musical Fidelity XA-200) come with very poor standard cables that make the amp sound strangled, like it's not able to be dynamic and expressive and as a consequence, your entire system will continue to display the effect no matter what other devices gets a cable improvement. I'm just sharing my experience.
@Jayiyagi nice! Would love to know it they are powerful enough to drive the 2ohm Pendragons and make them sound to their potential. (since those are on my radar). That would be one hell of a killer affordable system if they works well together!
@@bstatmeister honestly I would get something like Orchard Audio or AGD class D amps for those. Fosi is great for the price but I don't think I'd trust it to drive those 2 ohm versions reliably for years to come.
@Jayiyagi if I could get two good years out of them, it would really be all I need. Just buy another one if it gives out (only $150!). Just needs to sound awesome till it gives up the ghost - this is really the key point for me...can they make the 2 ohm Pendragons sing...
I’ve been running a full loom of Danny’s cables for about a year also. Biggest thing I hear is a reduction in noise floor- better instrument separation, etc. and yes, soundstage size and depth improved a bit also.
Your money is better spent with a dedicated outlet to your fuse box and nothing else on that breaker. This is the exact reason people call this snake oil.
no true I have a very hi end. headphone system . I change different fuse , power cable , ground box all have improve performance just some is over price i only keep the good value one
A short time ago I saw a channel in Spanish, by the way, of an engineer comparing a "high-end" cable with a regular one through different tests with measuring equipment and the results were very similar...impossible to notice differences in critical listening.
Hello Jay, if you go to the electrical store and buy 2 to 4 sqmm flexible 3 core flexible cable and buy the appropriate high quality plug & socket you are better off you won't hear any difference. And you saved money.
Yes, I'm skeptical. For the price of the cables, you'd be better off putting a line conditioner in front of your system to clean up the power. (Surge and brown out protection.) Then take the rest of the savings... and put it in to better amp or other components. (Or room treatment) But that's just me.
Power cables matter. I like how you qualify placement and gear matters, agreed. I use Furutech Alpha 3 cable with Furutech ends, it made a good difference with my Hegel H90 integrated amp.
Jay please compare these w best power cables from Decware ty PS a power cable on previous DAC made a huge difference in performance- changed its entire personality
I think it's funny that you say "its not like these cables can bend the rules of physics", but a power cable changing how a stereo sounds is LITERALLY bending the rules of physics LOL, so either it's "magic" or it aint bud. Can't be both
There is absolutely in my opinion no way a little piece of wire between the wall and any application you're hooking it up to can make any difference whatsoever what about all the miles of cable inside the house going out to the meter can so long so long😂😂
It doesn't help to combat power cable-skepticism that I am not aware of a single manufacturer ever coming out to say what the technical issue is that complex power cables are designed to tackle. The most expensive cables are used in high-end systems between a power conditioner that produces very pure AC power and power supplies in high-end components. So what exactly is the problem in that context that needs to be solved by complex and expensive cables? Good quality conductors of sufficient gauge and effective shielding are what make common sense but that doesn't justify esoteric pricing.
You're a brave man to go anywhere near this topic again. Im worried you've spent too much time at GR. You've gone to the Danny side! I've never heard of anyone making it back from there. Just kidding i hope you know.
Spending $1000 on audiophile power cables makes little sense when your whole house is wired with standard, thin, cheap, unshielded cables. The improvements these high-end cables claim to offer are usually marginal at best, and a con at worst, especially since most audio equipment already has built-in noise filtering. Blind tests consistently show that even self-proclaimed audiophiles can't reliably tell the difference between expensive "upgrades" and standard equipment. In fact, in several tests, including one in Spain a few years ago, listeners struggled to distinguish between a $500 audio system and a $12,000 setup. Given this, it's hard to justify the cost-there are far better ways to improve sound quality without relying on overpriced accessories that provide little real-world benefit.
Everywhere the're people starting to talk about cables, there's a war starting. I have kinda cheapsystem and i can even hear a small difference. If it's worth it, that's for everone different. I like secondhand stuff. So i dont lose as much value.
Amir from Audio Science review checked this cables and they dont even have a certification. Jay looks a little bit strange to me this video speaking about this one cable.
Love your channel Jay, still think power cables are huge snake oil. Yes, I have higher end gear and heard many. These are money takers and makers in my opinion.
I just put the GR cable on my Harmony DAC and the difference was immediately obvious. I bought the cable before I even saw this video. They are excellent cables.
I trust the ears of experienced and skilled audiophiles regarding cabling. Just because science cannot presently measure the difference in cables is not at all determinative to me.
When I built my house, I had a dedicated outlet made for hi-fi. I have shielded power cable to a shielded power strip, Kimber power cables from Schuko to IEC. RF rejection is assured by ferrite cores. There are unfortunately two 2.4 Mhz/5 MHz access points in my lounge. And of course with my revealing system I hear a difference in blackness, imaging, image depth. All the best, Rob in Switzerland
That's something I have thought about. I have the advantage of 3 separate lines coming to the house from the street. But I don't know what other houses have on the other lines.
You know what would be super entertaining……. Invite/challenge Amir from Audiosciencereview to come over and do some bling ABX testing with you. Obviously, he would have to promise to keep an open mind, and really give it an honest try. Maybe have 1 or 2 more guests. Getting a device such as the Van Alstine ABX Comparator would make it even better.
In fact ..........upgrades like this and many others do not make better what is wrong with a system....... But it is when your system don't need these or other upgrades .........and when it plays music without the need for analyzing because it connects you to the music , then good upgrades will make a real difference . Most high end today is about performance and impressive sound reproduction.........MUSIC rerproduction is something quite different.........that's where the marketing and audiophile stuff is going the wrong way .......many fall for the trap , some learned wjhat music reproduction is all about..
I have a GR B16 cryo cable in my Decware Rachael , CEC TL5 transport, and Small Green Computer LPS powering my Tradutto. Amazing sound. I'm going to pull my DNA's farther into the room. Can you get to much sound stage? Excellent vid.
You have to ask yourself this question. What is your cut in all this as they are very expensive Your last name means story telling. Then please tell us why we need these cable
I don’t get a cut. I actually lose a small amount of money shipping these back to GR-Research. However they were courteous to lend the cables to me for a lengthy period of time. I never said you need anything or buy anything. I’m just sharing my journey.
I could see a guy like "Jay's Audio Lab" (not Jay's Iyagi) going for it. He recently posted about $400,000 speakers he considered. Me? I'm doing good to afford $100 for the year of streaming I just subscribed for.
GR’s Danny comes off as an arrogant jerk almost 100% of the time, so anything GR is an almost automatic pass. Would’ve done so here too except that the topic is of extreme interest.
Hey Jay (wax on, wax off), have you seen the power cables inside of your walls?!… You are selling snake oil and you know it! Show me measurements supporting your claims, you are obviously an expert in psycho-acoustics 🤦🏼♂️
Any mentally sane person who has a minimum knowledge regarding the physics and electronics knows the supreme snake oil these “audiophile “ cables represent… People have serious issues regarding this so called audiophile world
You know the physics is consistent with the differences represented? 100% plausible. Of course audiophilia is littered with countless examples of bs, dubious claims, etc., ... but of course the way the cable is made matters. Exploring and pursuing those best practices needn't be expensive.
power cable you lose credibility man. you have to be very careful these cables are not been tested they've been tested by an independent guy and have shown to be unsafe from GR whatever they're called don't forget if there's a fire your insurance will not cover you if it's not have a certificate
What's there to lose credibility about? I shared my honest experience with these cables and did a blind test. I think it's fun. if presenting my honest opinion about them loses me credibility with some, well... that sucks but I'm not going to censor myself. PS. most audiophile cables are not certified and I have not seen any tests on the web that shows it being "unsafe"

@@jungtarcph Hi. I don't really care who makes what. I'm sharing my experience with a product I used as always do, not the creator or the company.
Too much information Jay! 😛
IMO there are differences in the way it sounds but whether it sounds better or not is subjective based on personal preference.
It’s not that complex honestly, we aren’t going to the moon 😅
while I agree with what you said, it is a common misconception that (only) on more expensive systems you hear significant difference/improvement. In my experience it is the old/cheap amps that greatly benefits from better cables for speakers or power, while higher/newer models doesn't seem to be affected as much.
Nope. Cables don’t make a difference. Any serious scientific test confirms it.
I've done that test many times, with many cables. They were differences with most cables. Idk why people are afraid to admit there's a difference.
Okay
Hey, I’m with you Jay. I hear difference under some conditions..
I hear the most consistent improvement with high-quality power cords with sensitive digital sources like dac or streamer .
i generally hear a minimal difference, connecting power amps to expensive power cords.
You have to be brave to video 'Cable Theory ' great Job Jay '
Most important to me is not letting no cables touch !!
Great video
Have you tested with a powerquest compared to the cable or both together?
I was watching some of your old videos and see you got the most important piece of equipment. An Eames Chair.....
I like Jay for admitting the differences he heard are NOT as large as many audiophiles claim.
Because they are NOT.
If you had to pick between the Arendal 1723 or the css 1tdx or 3tdx which would you pick? Got the arendal and css both in cart been up all night trying to decide. In your professional opinion what would be a better choice.
Both are fantastic choices. Two main things I would consider.
1. If ur room is big, Arendal 1723 thx or 3tdx is a great choice
2. If you have a power amplifier that’s pretty powerful, I’d say 3tdx or 1tdx with subs depending on the size of your room. If you have less of a powerful amp (like a low power tube amp), Arendals are more sensitive so it may be a better choice.

A dedicated video on room placement, and your favorite gear for soundstage depth would be appropriated. P.S. what do you think of Suwat?😂
Hey - go order some medium spicy pad Thai.
16/20 for this one is actually more than I expected to get…
But you know… like I said, half of this hobby is art. Folks that’s more set on objective data are going to call the “art” side bullshit, and that’s fine too (I’m not here to change anyone’s mind or to enforce my findings)
But since you wrote me your experience and thoughts here (that I enjoyed very much), let me share with you my simple thoughts on “why I still use audiophile cables despite no measurable data”
I am a neuroscientist (that’s my day job) and I can for sure tell you that each of our sensors are not independent but reliant on each other.
And let me make it clear… when I say… “sensors are reliant on each other and don’t work properly without one”
I don’t mean blind or deaf people.
Cheers!

On the last point regarding proof of lower noise on the cable’s geometry, there is a measurement by a person named amir from audio science reviews that shows that.

I have been searching for an answer on how a USB re-clocker can be any more than a USB hub with only one port on the other side.
Cool story bro🎉
@@Pete.across.the.street I don't know what you mean ??
Jay, is it possible for you to comment on how these compare to the NRG power cables that you reviewd recently?
Outlets make a nice difference in revealing systems. I have top of the line Furutech outlet next to Oyaide R0.
Oyaide is my favorite for sure
What power distribution Block are you using?
Which power conditioner is that?
How about alllll the wires before those power cables. The power section of the amp already filters out anything coming into it.
I love my power cables:) I wish you can rent them to experiment with your system. My favorite power cable is my Pangea AC9SE. Mind blowing but very thick…like a water hose! I also love Audioquest.

I was hoping that you were going to compare the NRG cables with the GR Research cables
One more thing to consider is room treatment before investing in cabels.

@@Jayiyagi Awesome Jay, which one or all? thanks!
Upgrading power cables on your petrol car will give you much cleaner combustion slight increase in ignition timing and +10 hp.
Hi Jay! Would love to get a review about the new Fosi Audio V3 monos which have been getting a lot of buzz lately. Is that on your radar?
Yeap :)

Stop apologizing. You hear what you hear. Your hobby and mine is music. Let the naysayers enjoy their measurements.
My man is living the dream
Hello Jay, if you go to the electrical store and buy 2 to 4 sqmm flexible 3 core flexible cable and buy the appropriate high quality plug & socket you are better off you won't hear any difference. And you saved money.
Yes, I'm skeptical.
For the price of the cables, you'd be better off putting a line conditioner in front of your system to clean up the power. (Surge and brown out protection.)
Then take the rest of the savings... and put it in to better amp or other components. (Or room treatment)
But that's just me.
I'v got a power conditioner in front of my system, and power cables still makes a difference ;-)
Power cables matter. I like how you qualify placement and gear matters, agreed. I use Furutech Alpha 3 cable with Furutech ends, it made a good difference with my Hegel H90 integrated amp.
Jay please compare these w best power cables from Decware ty
PS a power cable on previous DAC made a huge difference in performance- changed its entire personality
Power cables that are silver and heavy gauge and properly shielded make a difference
Not necessarily for the better 😅
If money was no object, which speaker would be the best in your opinion?
You're a brave man to go anywhere near this topic again. Im worried you've spent too much time at GR. You've gone to the Danny side! I've never heard of anyone making it back from there. Just kidding i hope you know.
You had me there!
16 out of 20 is more than enough.
I’m willing to try many things to make my soundstage better but this power cable thing just isn’t one of them
I have a Gigawatt LS-2 Evo installed on my recordplayer and a LC-2 Evo on a Rega Aria, made a different of lets say 15% better
You have to test JTR man :)
Everywhere the're people starting to talk about cables, there's a war starting.
I have kinda cheapsystem and i can even hear a small difference. If it's worth it, that's for everone different.
I like secondhand stuff. So i dont lose as much value.
Well …. I fell asleep.😊. But very interested in the review of the Totems ✌🏼
Amir from Audio Science review checked this cables and they dont even have a certification.
Jay looks a little bit strange to me this video speaking about this one cable.
CABLES MATTER BRO >>>> !!! ** TRIGGERED** HAHAHAH
it makes a setup look better for sure, but make sound better... nope. facts
A lot of rubber on these cables, not a fan of it,for 720 ish Dollar you got a Ansuz powercord that is way better build.
It is all BS the most important cable in the system is the cables carying power through your home or apartment! After that it is interconects.
Emotiva has great power cables for $59.99.
For science, it would be even more interesting if they all had hearing tests done, talk about those results afterwards as well.
I'd rather them see them right in a boxing ring.
That would be hilarious
So these are engineered cables from cable engineering companies that dont publish any engineering data.
well i definitely feel like i know your gf's backside better than before. interesting content Jay
Jay needs to be very nice to his GF. That looked like a lot of work.
Awesome you state subjective👍
So not your last name? Good. Because I questioned why your parents named you Jay’s. 😂
As far as I can see it is a new girlfriend in comparison with your previous videos :) Congratulations on the upgrade :)
I say..be audiophile not audioFool 😉
no reason why you couldnt use the same track 20 times.
Pure placebo effect lol.
Conclusion : You don't because you can't ...
You have to ask yourself this question. What is your cut in all this as they are very expensive
Your last name means story telling. Then please tell us why we need these cable
I don’t get a cut. I actually lose a small amount of money shipping these back to GR-Research. However they were courteous to lend the cables to me for a lengthy period of time.
I never said you need anything or buy anything. I’m just sharing my journey.
@Jayiyagi Sure you do....there are millions of power cables out there, and these are the ones you choose to promote! Lol!
NO NO NO NO NO NO. Why i should pay 10.000.00 for a cable. Its sick
I could see a guy like "Jay's Audio Lab" (not Jay's Iyagi) going for it. He recently posted about $400,000 speakers he considered. Me? I'm doing good to afford $100 for the year of streaming I just subscribed for.
yes it's real. There is a improvement with the right PC
If you have to do special hearing tests to MAYBE hear a difference.... maybe you shouldn't be spending money on it in the first place.
that's.... not.... nope.
Power cables matter. If your a naysayer your system is just not there yet or you simply are biased.
Can you talk about your reel to reel sometime thanks
ruclips.net/video/r5avwoCNi4M/видео.html
GR’s Danny comes off as an arrogant jerk almost 100% of the time, so anything GR is an almost automatic pass.
Would’ve done so here too except that the topic is of extreme interest.
well then the manufacturer should sell their devices with better cable. what a joke.
LOL sure.
it's already year 2024. why do people still believe in this!
Hey Jay (wax on, wax off), have you seen the power cables inside of your walls?!… You are selling snake oil and you know it! Show me measurements supporting your claims, you are obviously an expert in psycho-acoustics 🤦🏼♂️
Any mentally sane person who has a minimum knowledge regarding the physics and electronics knows the supreme snake oil these “audiophile “ cables represent…
People have serious issues regarding this so called audiophile world
You know the physics is consistent with the differences represented?
100% plausible.
Of course audiophilia is littered with countless examples of bs, dubious claims, etc., ... but of course the way the cable is made matters.
Exploring and pursuing those best practices needn't be expensive.
If they know a lot about physics, they know it's not snake oil
A minimum knowledge level of any topic leads to nothing more than uninformed opinion.
power cable you lose credibility man.
you have to be very careful these cables are not been tested they've been tested by an independent guy and have shown to be unsafe from GR whatever they're called don't forget if there's a fire your insurance will not cover you if it's not have a certificate
@@Jayiyagi Someone correct me if I am wrong, but you have to validate security conformity in the European market formally. I hope the same is true in Canada and the States.
You sound like an ASR Fan Boy. Theres nothing at all wrong with Jays review. It’s interesting he found some improvements and good that he said its only worth it as the final improvement after fixing everything else and if you have the speakers away from the walls to allow a soundstage depth to build. Nothing ventured nothing gained
@@Jayiyagi yeah I know you're here to entertain it makes sense take it with a pinch of salt. just saying that using something that's not classified would affect your insurance if they found out it was relevant. I think that should be pointed out! there is was some RUclipsr I've forgotten his name he did some tests and dismantled the cable and found out it wasn't constructed very well. and didn't pass regulations.
we got to have standards for safety it's a must too much dodgy stuff these days especially from China. have a good day enjoy your programs
@@hoobsgroove totally with you on that safety thing. I think your talking about Amir’s video? He had three problems with the one cable he measured. The heat shrink coming off, the plug being tight and the ground being a bit too long.
I reported the first two cuz I found the same thing but the third one, I didn’t find it to be such an issue as he presented it to be. I’ve used multiple for close to a year with continuous use without any issues so that’s what I can report
