Helpful to have your son's age, height and riding experience with these bikes as I consider what to get for my grandkids - boys are now 6 and 8 (unsure of height) and girls are 10 and 14. So far they've ridden a JR 50 and Yamaha PW 80. JR is a hoot; PW 80 is really soft suspension, even for a light boy.
I've got four sons. They are 7, 9, and the twins - 11 years. Not long ago we started to ride. For first, i bought an old honda ape 50. It wasn't in a good condition, but we rebuilt its engine, fork and this mini bike runs well now. This was the best decision, to take the ape first. Easiest variant of motorbike to be controlled dy a boy. But the guys got bored soon. They learned it well in a couple of months. They could make different exersises on it, they feel this bike and i decided they grown up to have something bigger. The next level was XR80 of our friends. It's amazing bike, frankly speaking. But my boys wasn't exited with it as i expected. I bought Yamaha TTR125. That was the Thing! We just started the season, spring comes in april here, in Moscow. Elder guys are learning to jump over the log, to uphill, etc. This bike is like an another univers for them. But to be honest, tecnically, i like honda much more. Honda bikes were build by wise engeniers, it's much reliable. Sorry for my english, i tried to wright without translators. ))
@jefferey johnson Hi! Do you mean "monkey"? It's rare thing here. I've seen it only once on the road and can't say anything particular. But sure, it's very compact and this is the strong advantage in a city, or when you are a not very tall rider ))
Very helpful video, thank you guys. We are adding to the fleet, and looking at either the KLX110 or the ole XR80 which are same seat height. I kno the xr/crf80 is much less power and kick start but I want my little rider to learn how to rail with low power and have it fully tapped LOL. Maybe we should get both LOL.
Thank you for the reply glad I could help. Now he just turned 15 and has moved up to a TTR230. It's neverending but is a great way to spend time with him.
Hello how are you? How old is your son in the video and how tall is he? I'm looking for a motorcycle for my daughter but I don't know if the xr 80 or the xr 100 is the right one, your answer would help me a lot, thank you very much
My 7 and 9 year old boys love their TTR90 but feel after a 1 1/2 riding seasons they are itching for more power. I need something with more power but really not physically bigger as they are small for their age. I think something like KX65 it too much for them and not sure I want them to learn a clutch on a 2 stroke. Any suggestions, the TTR90 has pretty good power but know I need to get something larger for this summer. I'll have to look at the KLX110 I think the dimensions are only a tad bigger? UPDATE: 2023 - rebuilt a CRF80 for my boys and they are absolutely loving in. On the look out for another and/or maybe a CRF100. Hope you guys are still riding and enjoying the sport!
Update about a year later: 2007 CRF80 has been added to the stable next to the TTR90!! Perfect step up from the TTR90 to learn a clutch and physically a little bit bigger. Great bike!
The XR80 is miserable to find a front tire for! For a bike that was produced for over 20 years with the same size tire you would think there would be some choices. Last year I bought my kids and myself some trail bikes. I got my 8yr old daughter a TTR50E, my 12 year old son a TTR125LE, and myself a TTR230. My son can ride my 230 no problem, but like yours has to tip toe it a bit. For me the bike is perfect and I'm 6' even.
I wish i had the money for a bigger bike, still in highschool and im 18 5’11” and 200lbs and still riding on a ttr90 that i got for free lmao, nice bikes tho
Ever since the XR line came out in the 70's they have been 4 strokes. The CR line was the race bike/2 stroke where the XR line is the beginner/trail bike and 4 stroke. In 2004 when the 4 stroke bikes became the CRF line, the XR line became the more advanced line and could be had in 2 and 4 stroke but with MX type suspension.

you should move those bark busters down on your xr80. If he goes over the bars with the busters that high he will break his wrists!
Or better yet take them off

My son went from a Yamaha pw 50 to an xr 80. Little 80 was fun even with me on it
Nice bikes! I have big bore 2 strokes! I have a 1986 CR500r and a 1991 KX500. Front tire pops up in every gear on both bikes.
Xr100 is such a fun bike I’ve had one for years and even with my wr250r it’s still super fun to go out and rip around on the little 100

I think the xr80 was the perfect bike for him to learn clutch on fit him perfectly at 9 years old

When I was 18 years old, I was riding an XR 80 1993 for fun and it was a little too much work to get it to run but it has some kick to it
Slap a rear tire on the front of the xr 80 r i did it it works great.
Great video! Looking to get my 9 yr old one soon and needed this info. ty.
Your welcome glad it was a help

My brother is 10 years old he is 4.7 feet what dirt bike is good for him?
100% xr80 great bike to learn on
He has experience whit a raptor 250 only thx for the suggestion
W Siverson what about a yamaha because i have a raptor 250 and my dad. 700 so i thing he wants a yamaha too
Only problem with the ttr125 is it’s a whole lot slower than any xr100
That is so not true
I am 4 11 and i want a ttr110 or ttr125 . Which one should i get
Boomtown MDM definitely a ttr125. The ttr110 would be to small because I’m 4 foot 10 and I can fit the ttr125 good and the ttr125 is a awesome bike
First bike I had was a pw50 when I was 4
Im 10 my dad got the ttr90 for my brother and one of the xrs for me for me they work great
It was 2004 they changed it to crf100, i have an 07 crf100 and a 03 ttr90
Thank I'm might get xr 100
No hate but he really needs to stop revving them out when he first starts them. It needs to warm up for 8-10 minutes
No he needs to warm them up for a solid 2 minutes dumbass
Why didn’t you start the bike 🏍
The 125 didnt have any gas
How tall is he
the xr 80r is way to fast for a 80
Hello I was wondering if your interested in selling your xr 100 if you do respond we will talk about prices thank you
Now ur one fun dad letting ur 10 year old drive this bikes unfortunately my dad is extremely boring and doesn’t let me drive anything
I’m 5’2 /5’1 and I like the way 80 looks on him and he’s just barely shorter than me
I'm 5,6 is a 125 good for me?

Go with a ttr 125 if yoir looming for a cheap low maintenance and is fun to ride on
It will be good for the 125 how much do you want to sell it for Columbus you can
I have the same grips from the ttr 90 on my crf 250r
Bear on roller skates im 5 foot 7 and I ride my little brothers ttr 90 around all the time
I'm 9 and my bday is 1/31 ima be ten. I am planning to get the xr100 or xr100r I'm saving for xr100. Let me know if this is a bad choice.
Unless you have a lot of experience or are very tall I would start with the xr80
Oh I hex for replying AetherArc is my alt yet account. I am 4 feet 10 inches and I have NO experience whatsoever.
+W Siverson Is 5,6 to big for a xr80?
Yes at 5'6 I would look more for a ttr 125l or similar.
Oh btw I’m 10 and I’m 4’10 should I get a XR100R or the XR100
My first bike was a ttr 125 i was 5 4 and i still have it
Xr 100?? Legendaria!!😎😎
Buy a crf150 so you won't have to worry about getting a new bike any time soon
I would sell my soul to devel to get one of those damn xr 80s and I’m 14 will fit on a 250
@jefferey johnson yeah haha I don’t like those Honda’s now I have a ttr 125 it’s kinda small probably going to get a yz 85 or a yz125 next year
@jefferey johnson I just like the xr 80s paint job honestly

hi guys. Im 10 and im thinking about getting a ttr125 im a little taller than average
If your just starting, look into a 110. Then move your way up to a 125.
Get 50s 65s 85s those are for beginners he has been in for 3 years get him a 65 race bike
kx
You just have to make the forks on the TTr make stiffer
Hard on the frame.
Ill buy the ttr90 from u
If it's easy, then why does he have to jump on the kick start on the XR100
there all the same bike realy i just see it as a waste just keep the xr100 and sell the rest
Any thing to say
1.29.23 no war
Get him a 65 2 stroke
Johnathan Hubbell my brother is getting a dirt bike maybe a yz85/65 but i dont know if he will fit on a 85 or 65 Idk the height if the bike
If he is having trouble trying to kick start that 100 he don't need it yet
What?
5.6.22 no war

Fix those barkbusters!!!
THESE ARE PITBIKES
JakeRyall500 there’s actually no difference. One is just smaller

Dirt bikes are trail bikes, not mx bikes. 3'-4' jumps seems pretty much to ask of a trail bike, that's abuse.
