Between the horrible traffic, high taxes and ridiculous gun laws, l will be leaving CA after living here 62 years. I bought lake front property 20 years ago on a private fishing lake in TN and building my own custom house on 9 acres of woodland property for 1/3 of the cost in TN.
It's sad but we're leaving in four years. We can't take it any more. It's like we're being forced to leave. Don't worry, we're conservative, and that's why we're getting out. I've lived in the South; it's lovely- and wish I'd never moved back here.
Man, you described Maryville very well! We are a couple (dudes) who live in Maryville right outside downtown. I'm from here, he isn't... but we love it.
Cost of living is over exaggerated lol my wife for example makes 50k in Nashville and works 3x harder then she did in LA, in LA she makes 150k. I promise you 150k goes further in Cali then 50k does in Nashville
@Frank L That's why you don't retire in LA lol. You make your money and retire elsewhere. My wife worked in Nashville as the purchaser and project manager for a high end custom home builder and a large portion of her clients were from LA coming to build million + dollar homes. Her parents just sold their home in LA and retired to the mountains of Scottsdale AZ. Just as a better breakdown example in Nashville we worked our asses off and made less then 100k combined. Cost of living for our lifestyle took about 70k-80k in Nashville. In LA the same life style takes about 20k more per year...… but combined we make 250+k a year. That's so far into the green we literally have an entire average married couple's income as savings per year. Not to mention work less and less stressed. It's actually funny, the majority of LA transplants we met in Nashville wished they never left Cali.
Great video! I've been watching a ton of California exodus videos lately and my family are planning on moving out of state within the next 15 months. I was born and raised in the Bay Area but it's gradually changed for the worse over the last two decades and it's time for us to move on. Thanks for posting! 💯
California refugee as well. 3 years living in Middle Tennessee. Best decision ever, best people ever! To those of you making comments about voting, take a second to think why people like us leave California in the first place... it’s not just about the cost of living.
Believe it or not, not all native Californias are what you see on the tube. Not everyone lives in a shitty district and stomps on the red-white-blue. There are still lots of God-loving family raising folks out here. And to that point, each state has its flaws. Good luck to everyone who moves and stays.
Hows the youth/club soccer scene in Tennessee brotha??? Looking to relocate from Eastvale, Ca to middle Tenn and well, club soccer is a big deal as well as teaching. Glad I found your videos 👍
You will be so happy and you will be shocked how cheap the other states are to live in. We moved out 5 months ago. We have a lot more money No more homeless tents We love it
My husband and I moved from San Diego to Norman OK in February of 2019. Great town with OU at our back door. Building a 5/3 home on five acres with a 30x 50 shop for 350,000 👍 so sick of CA. Filthy dirty, outrageous taxes and everyone is all about themselves. Don't move to CA ever and if you live there consider moving. We now live in the heartland where everyone has a heart ❤️
Norman, Oklahoma, huh? Just make sure you have a well constructed tornado shelter on the premises of your new home......big enough for your family and pets!
I was born and raised in California for 35 years, left to live in Denver for one year, and subsequently left the United States to Poland three months ago. I wish I'd left California at age 26 when I first wanted to leave. You all won't regret it.
i agree, but no matter how bad it gets people do not understand and change their voting habits. at some point you have to through in the towel and just move somewhere where your elected officials share your beliefs and ideals. for too long califorians thought CA was flat and you feel off the edge when you left CA. well, it's reckoning time because the gold plating has worn off.
Found your channel and have done a deep dive of watching. We’re looking at where to relocate: TN. ID. TX. Coming from CA. Seeing the for sale sign go up in your video that area code is RIGHT where we live. Gives an even more real feel knowing you came from the same city area in CA. Fav cities for a young family in TN that’s affordable but still gives everything good paying jobs, schools etc
I can relate when you said, when you were a kid you knew all your neighbors and everyone would be outside doing stuff, in their garage, etc, I grew up in north Orange County where it was like that as well. Everybody knew everybody. Times have changed. I know since other demographics have moved in the neighborhood it isn’t like that anymore. I know one of my neighbors. I never see anybody outside anymore. It’s truly sad!
I think it’s the change of attitudes and somewhat of the youth being lost. I’m 24 and the last neighbor my parents would talk to recently passed from cancer. That is the last neighbor they had who they would constantly see and chat with. A lot of younger people (25+) who moved into our neighborhood don’t really chat with anyone. It’s just a stark difference. I remember another neighbor (he was elderly) who would always tell me hi as a child and ask me to say hello to my father since they would chat often and shared the same cultural background. Times have changed so much and it’s kinda sad how it’s become.
Slappy....the reason Florida is a shithole is because of very low wages, one of the worst public school systems in the country, extremely low teacher salaries and out-of-control violent crime. It’s a “southern Police State” run by s bunch of right-wing good ‘ol boys who control every level of government. That, my friend, is the reason it’s a shithole. Once you move to Florida you’re stuck here because you’ll never make enough money to rent a U-Haul to leave!
Just finished watching two of your videos Tennessee and now the leaving part, I move 4 times in my life , and when I think I missed my first home, but always love the open country, getting crowded here by warehouses, and houses thinking of moving hopping be the last time, I’m 56 now and need big quiet peaceful place
I hear you Bro, I subscribed to your channel just to see you move, because I'm right behind you. I too have seen California completely go down hill on fire with no brakes on and after 50 years of living in California, minus my Military time, it's time to go now. I will truly miss the way California use to be and the weather of course and also the beach. I was born and raised in Ventura County right on the beach and I use to surf, scuba dive, spear fish, sail, everything ocean basically. I have seen our beaches and the water quality just go down the shitter, literally? not to mention the city my family and I live in has completely 100% went down the toilet in a big way, from the trash to the people and I can't see it getting any better anytime soon as long as we have the same political party running California and I believe even if another political party were to take back California, it's just too late to pull California out of it's nose dive. It's a shame it has to be this way and it makes me angry and sad at the same time. Many factors have made me come to my desition to leave California, the constant tax increases on everything, California's immigration policy, increasing crime, housing prices, the people in general just not caring about one another, the laws, traffic, the schools have declined 10 fold and the list unfortunately goes on and I could find at least 5 or even 10 more things and that's fricking sad. So it's time, I'm listing my house right after Christmas, one last Christmas here in California then we are out. Thank you for this video Bro. I wish you and your family the best in your move to greener pastures, you have made a very wise decision for you and your family. California unfortunately is going to be losing lots of great people. Take care. Hawk out!!
First off, I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to share. It is always nice to hear from others who can relate. We were just talking about the beaches and the water quality the other day after a quick trip to Florida and you are 100% correct. I remember some great times driving up and surfing county line in high school! I hope you enjoy the new adventure and wish you the best of luck. Thank you for your service!
your children will thank you later. my plumb tree has had fruit since the first year, and now I keep it trimmed short and it produces a ton of fruit. I walk my dog twice a day and pick up trash every day here in central washington since our immigrants moved in.
Love your videos! We are right behind you … well, a few years behind. Can’t wait to get out of CA. Good bye and good riddance! We’re looking at Maryville, so really appreciate the tours of the town. Hope to run in to you in the near future.
I lived in Tennessee and I love it! I first moved to Chattanooga but the company where I used to work transferred me to Pennsylvania. Either way both places are equally amazing.
In 1973 my family moved from San Diego to Athens, GA. My mom and dad were raised in east Tennessee, so it was like coming home for them. But I was 14, and I had a real "California chip" on my shoulder. I believed all the lies my friends told me about the South and Georgia. When we got here, it was real culture shock. The trees looked different, the houses looked different, the red Georgia clay looked weird, and pine straw in peoples yards looked strange. I looked down on my southern schoolmates. It took about a year for that chip to drop off and for me to see things the way they really were. I absolutely fell in love with Georgia, Tennessee, and all of the South, including the people who live here. In 1976 I still didn't know what conservatism was, and I was a big Jimmy Carter fan, although just too young to vote. Thankfully, over the next 4 years I started listening to Ronald Reagan's radio program at the time, I was converted, and have never looked back. I am grateful to God that he got me out of California and kept me from growing up liberal. Now, your mission is this: raise your kids to love God, love America, love the flag, love our history, and learn to be self-reliant, hard working, caring, conscientious adults. Find a Bible believing church which will love you and provide spiritual nourishment. You could not pick a better place to do that than Tennessee. I know you are tired of hearing this, but you hear it because you are moving to a special place: LEAVE ALL LIBERALISM BEHIND! Vote no to increased taxes, no to regulation, no to Democrats no matter how reasonable they seem. God bless you as you move forward!
Best case scenario would be two separate nations with Conservatives on one side and degenerate liberals on the other side. Liberals ruin everything they touch.
I'm in my mid 20's. Born and raised in NJ my whole life and plan on moving to TN in about 2-4 years. NJ is now East Coast California since Giv-er-nor Phil Murphy raised our taxes even more and turned it into a sanctuary state. I have a cousin, who I'm very close with, moved from NJ to Knoxville, TN in 2015 and he told me it was the best decision of his life. He's saving way more money down there than he would in NJ. The amount of money he spends on property taxes a year in TN compairing to NJ just makes my jaw drop and mind you he makes the same salary down there as he would in NJ. TN is such a beautiful state and people are way nicer down there than in NJ. I can relate what you're saying in terms of Southern Hospitality in your video because it is spot on! I have the same exact mindset as you do. NJ use to be such a great state to live in now it's a complete cesspool because liberals and DemoRats care more about illegal immigrants than legal American citizens. It's not even fair yet the state's Government wonders why states such as NJ, CA, NY, IL, etc., are high ranked in most people moving out of state. When I finally move to TN, I will make it my mission to make sure to never ever vote Democrat! I've always voted Republican and will continue doing so. Vote red or we're dead! Moving from NJ will be bittersweet, but I'm just fed up with all the corrupted politicians destroying this use to be wonderful state. Let the liberals and DemoRats have this overtaxed, corrupted, sanctuary state I'm done!
It is sad, California once was the land of golden opportunity. Hope you find a happy place in Tennessee. Left wing policies have killed California and have driven the middle class out. Life in central Texas is everything you described that California is now. Crowded, congested, dirty and expensive. I am looking to move too.
I had the chance to move to Austin in 2014 and turned it down because I saw how expensive it was and that it would become a California so I stayed in AZ. I am glad I stayed.
I live a little south of Nashville in Brentwood with my wife of 5 years, and welcome you and your family to Tennessee. Ya'll seem like such good people looking to get away from the problems that have nothing to do with ya'll. I think you'll like it here. Stay away from Memphis unless you do what I did in visiting Graceland and leave asap because crime is one of the highest in the country there. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are really nice and there is a lot of scenery in East Tennesse and close to Chattanooga. There is also a lot of scenery in Middle Tennessee too. There is a Corvette museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky if you like Corvettes with old and new Corvettes. Some of the Corvettes were damaged due to a sinkhole which was terrible but pretty cool to see.
Tennessee is pretty cool. Nashville is fun to visit I couldn’t see myself living there. But the outside areas of It I could. I’ll be visiting Johnson city for the first time for a wedding soon.
Matt Selvy, I don’t live in California. I live in a southern state but still don’t feel like I’m in so much danger that I would have to carry a gun on me wherever I go. That’s kind of a sad way of life and I hope it never gets to that point.
You made a great decision and your family will be in a far better place. I left CA May 6th with my family and could not be happier. I landed in Hot Springs Arkansas and I love it here. Good Luck to you and your family!
That is awesome! I keep hearing more and more stories about families leaving California, it's just not what it used to be. Thanks and best of luck to you as well!
Really enjoying your vlogs and seeing your enthusiasm for my beautiful state of Tennessee. Sorry so many people have jumped to conclusions about your politics. We are a little on edge here in case you can’t tell. Our way of life is a blessing and we don’t want it to change. We live in Nashville but visit Knoxville frequently. If you want a road trip, I recommend a trip to Asheville, NC right now to see the Biltmore at Christmas or the national gingerbread competition entries at the Grove Park Inn. Asheville is not far from you I think and well worth the drive.

Hey hey! Awesome video! I lived in Southern California for thirty years and helped my parents move to Northern Idaho. I'm in Eastern Tennessee, now. Met my significant other through a network connection on Facebook. Drove all the way from Northern Idaho to Knoxville area. Definitely a safe(er) and great place to live. Absolutely beautiful state with great people.
This is one of the most touching videos I've seen on RUclips! Best of luck in Tennessee! It's been three months since the move. How is the transition going for you and your family?
This guy is in for a real shock after he gets settled in Tennessee. I moved to east Tennessee (rural) 5 years ago, bought 28.5 acres and built two homes. Where I live is crazy evangelical conservative, the kind a California conservative will find offputting. People are nicer, but that is not because of their political associations, it's due to the reduced stress of a lower population density. Move to any hippy rural farming community and the people are just as friendly. "No trash along the road"? I cleaned a 600 ft portion of my rural highway road frontage earlier this year and filled 2 trash bags and a wheel barrel full of bottles and cups discarded by locals driving to work. That was only 600 ft on one side of the road. 20 years in SoCal, not one burglary, 3 years ago local "good ol boys" stole $1500 worth of tools from my barn. Look, I'm a registered independent, centrist, so I can get alone with just about anyone, but we are a nation of "individuals" if you are not open to hearing opposing views, you are a hive minded person, a sheep, not some kind of patriot. Patriots oppose unjust laws/policies, and governments that don't represent the best interests of the people. Sorry, that last bit was a rant. Final point, I love Tennessee, and am glad I moved there, the way to change anywhere into "California like" is to over populate it, so stay in California, Tennessee dosen't want you. JK 🙂
Thanks for this video. For others watching, Tennessee cities have all the same urban issues as CA. Memphis is a ghetto dump. Nashville is full of Sudanese refugees. You will see trash in rural areas where trash pick up is private and people don't want to haul an old mattress or refrigerator to the dumps. We saw lots of homes where residents used the woods as their dumping ground. Many rural areas are full of generational poverty because there is no work. Just families living off the gov't. ( I have family there and we almost moved there at one point) TN has gorgeous areas though. And I hope you guys like it. It really all depends on where you go in the state. But yes it is way cheaper than CA aside from a few Nashville suburbs. It's very family oriented. You will have tornadoes occasionally though and bad summer storms. Something you don't have in CA. I'm always happy for a person who moves out of the state they grew up in. It's good for the soul to see other things. Hopefully you are loving life where you are!
Yes, agreed! It seems it is always the metro areas that have the similar issues. We opt'd for gorgeous and it seems to be working out. Thanks for watching
I grew up in CA as well as my whole family. We moved to Oklahoma last year in November, hated it. 9 months later we're moving back home. I guess it's different for everyone.
2:50 Damn. Ive lived in California for 31 years. Not until these past few years I REALLY wanted to leave California. I had a family friend come over today that just got back from Tennessee. They said they loved it over there. Before then, I had my eye on Tennessee. Your video is really opening my eyes.
I noticed a lot of political stuff in the comments, just want to say we are one nation, not liberal nor conservative ... This is a great nation and I love it , but we all need to start pulling together help each other . I love the lord , he is my lord and savior. Let’s pray for our nation so that it can get back to where it once was . God bless your family and congrats on your new journey...
Liberals are like locust. They destroy everything where they are. When they can't stand living it what they created, they move to a different location and eventually destroy that place as well.
I completely understand your reasons for moving. Just yesterday I was past the security guard to my building (says it all doesn't it?) and noticed him glued to his phone just feet away from a trash can AND lots of trash floating around the floor. People here just don't care. They want someone else to do everything.
So sad what the liberals have done to California. Earlier tonight I watched a video of a guy who's moving because California is no longer affordable and it's as you said 'not the same' I gave California nearly 12 years of my life. Not worth it. I have been back in the Midwest since 1993 and my wife and I have plans to move to Texas in a few years. Almost every friend I knew in California now lives in either Oregon or Arizona because they couldn't afford to live in their home state once they got out on their own 🤔👎

Sick and tired of CA and all it has become. TN is our choice for home. Husband is going to work transfer to either outside Nashville or outside Knoxville. Often a big mistake people from California do they try to instill California values to the states they move to. People who moved from California must leave these California values behind
What California "values" Crony Crapitalism and sodomy?

Between the horrible traffic, high taxes and ridiculous gun laws, l will be leaving CA after living here 62 years. I bought lake front property 20 years ago on a private fishing lake in TN and building my own custom house on 9 acres of woodland property for 1/3 of the cost in TN.

Can't wait
California was wonderful 50 years ago. Now there are too many people.
Great video...left Cali in 2007. Best decision ever made after 28 years.
Cost of living is better, but leave all liberal ideology behind please.
Frank L I’m a art director/photographer. (Movie poster artist) so no state pensions for me lol
We did the same 7 years ago...Santa Clarita , Ca to Nolensville, Tn...never looked back and wished we did it sooner...
Great video! I've been watching a ton of California exodus videos lately and my family are planning on moving out of state within the next 15 months. I was born and raised in the Bay Area but it's gradually changed for the worse over the last two decades and it's time for us to move on. Thanks for posting! 💯

Believe it or not, not all native Californias are what you see on the tube. Not everyone lives in a shitty district and stomps on the red-white-blue. There are still lots of God-loving family raising folks out here. And to that point, each state has its flaws. Good luck to everyone who moves and stays.

I was born and raised in California for 35 years, left to live in Denver for one year, and subsequently left the United States to Poland three months ago. I wish I'd left California at age 26 when I first wanted to leave. You all won't regret it.
Sad day when the people have to leave instead of voting out the problems, I call this a loss
i agree, but no matter how bad it gets people do not understand and change their voting habits. at some point you have to through in the towel and just move somewhere where your elected officials share your beliefs and ideals. for too long califorians thought CA was flat and you feel off the edge when you left CA. well, it's reckoning time because the gold plating has worn off.

Damned shame. was a nice place in the 70's
Randall Berry golden in the 60s.
Nice Idea
I can relate when you said, when you were a kid you knew all your neighbors and everyone would be outside doing stuff, in their garage, etc, I grew up in north Orange County where it was like that as well. Everybody knew everybody. Times have changed. I know since other demographics have moved in the neighborhood it isn’t like that anymore. I know one of my neighbors. I never see anybody outside anymore. It’s truly sad!
It's a bummer right? I remember some of the best times as a kid just being on the block with the other kids
I do not let my California friends and family know how nice Tennessee is.
I'm leaving NY and TN is the place I was thinking about checking out. Forget These dem cities.
No, go to Florida or some other shithole that liberals have already ruined.
I've heard Tennessee, specifically Nashville is being ruined in the same way Colorado is.
Slappy naw you go to Florida. I need open roads and nature.

Congrat's, You made the right choice.
your children will thank you later. my plumb tree has had fruit since the first year, and now I keep it trimmed short and it produces a ton of fruit.

We just took a trip up to Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh was gorgeous!
Gavin Newsom will elect himself president of california

Dude, appreciate that! It is going well, cold weather is starting to hit so we will see how this goes 🥶
( I have family there and we almost moved there at one point)
TN has gorgeous areas though.

Earlier tonight I watched a video of a guy who's moving because California is no longer affordable and it's as you said 'not the same'
I gave California nearly 12 years of my life. Not worth it. I have been back in the Midwest since 1993 and my wife and I have plans to move to Texas in a few years.
Almost every friend I knew in California now lives in either Oregon or Arizona because they couldn't afford to live in their home state once they got out on their own 🤔👎
