He may be using the headphones to keep contact with the news station he probably works for (it would explain the strange look of the app displayed on the screen and the fact he keeps asking questions about how this device works). It may be an extract of the back scenes of a short filmed documentary. See, not every young person is disrespectful, but a lot of grown-ups in the comments are absolutely stupid for not paying attention to details like this.
