Thank you! The dealer charged me $15.00 the last time I needed this done. Sometimes you just need to see someone else do something to learn that it can be done by an amateur and have the confidence to do it yourself. I decided every time I work on one of my vehicles I'm going to make a video to help others save money as well. Thanks again!
Was convinced I'd have to get the battery replaced at the dealership -- and you know they would have charged a ridiculous amount of money for it. Instead, $5 for a couple of batteries + about 60 seconds per key fob, and I've got two brand new keys ready to go. THANK YOU!
Thank you very much for a simple and easy way to change the battery. The only trouble I had was in getting the battery out from its plastic package, not realizing it’s sealed on both sides. I had to scissor cut it around first. In case others have this issue. Thanks again for this useful upload!
As a Toyota trained technician I can definitely say… No need for the screw driver. Completely unnecessary. Toyota designed the key fob in a way to use the actual key itself to gain access for battery replacement. A more user friendly design.
Can confirm screwdriver not necessary the key is a perfect fit and I obvs didn't have a screwdriver handy when my battery up and died on my trip. Life saver
Thank you for a simple straightforward explanation and video! I was able to do the task right along with you. (I’m 66, and I keep up with technology, but having someone explain this made things so much easier.
Thank you! This video helped me confidently change the battery. I noticed the tip edge of the key fits perfectly into the slot (instead of a screwdriver) to pop it open. I used the same to pop off the battery.
I just got a rav4 and to this helped me figure out jow to pull out the internal key! I knew it was in there i just wasnt sure how to take out and i wanted to research before i messed around and broke it. Thank you very much!
Thanks for doing the video, I used the end of the key to pry the case open and to pry out the old battery. No tools needed. Thanks again for the video, great job👍👍
Thank you so much! The video was easy to follow and straight to the point! I did not have a flat head screwdriver so I used the actual key to pop it open
Worked perfectly on mine! One note, the batteries I had sitting around for the last four years were dead. But I had some Energizer Lithium ones, and they have stayed good for the whole time, so I was lucky to have one.
Wow! My car fob died while driving and my car thought I lost the key started making beeps no key detected. Thankfully I had this video and 3 of these batteries in my center console for my watch. Opened it up and replaced it easily!
Thanks FB helpful video. One thing I would add is to make sure you keep the buttons-side down throughout this process, otherwise you might spill out the buttons and the protective rubber pc board cover.
Thanks for the video. Just changed out both key fobs on a 2016 rav4 and still neither are working? I actually took the batteries back and got a fresh pair, both name brands and the same thing. I’m at a loss. The circuitry look alright, no water damage, one was still working a fee days ago so I checked the charge and it was out so here I am. New ones say ok charge. Any thoughts?
I have a 2017 Toyota Rav4 XLE and my key doesn't look like this? The fob is triangular in shape and the key doesn't appear to come out of the black housing?
I bought a 2032 battery based on this video, but when I opened up the fob, it was a 2016 (for a 2016 RAV4). The circumference of the two batteries are the same, but 2016 is not as thick as the 2032.
My 2017 RAV 4 three button fob uses CR2016 battery. According to my owners manual, the CR 2032 is only for fobs with the smart start feature. Otherwise this was very helpful.
The battery was a little more difficult to remove on my Rav4 2019 fob. It does not sit near the end so not possible to remove with the screwdriver as shown. Rather you need a pointed tool.
Yeah you don't need the screw driver. That key you slide out of the fob does the job of opening the case and popping out the battery. But your video definitely taught me about that key that pops out.
CR2032 Coin Battery 🪙 you need: amzn.to/3GkOJnN

Thank you for confirming a screwdriver is not necessary.

Needed a screwdriver to get the battery out though. Little sucker was in there good.
Of course I see this comment AFTER I successfully swapped out the battery...will know for next time :)
Thank you for the tip! Luckily, I read your comment beforechanging the battery!

Very helpful! Great details and closeup of parts. I have always had a mechanic do this for me. Thanks so much!
Thank you! This video helped me confidently change the battery. I noticed the tip edge of the key fits perfectly into the slot (instead of a screwdriver) to pop it open. I used the same to pop off the battery.

Perfect how-to video
No useful information omitted
Including pointing out the more delicate steps in the procedure.
Thank you!
Thanks for this tutorial. Certainly cheaper than dealer and Battery replacement stores.
I am 70 and your tutorial instantly helped me. Now to program my husbands new key fob. Any video?
Thank you! This was so easy. One note - on my 2019 RAV4 fob, the little notch to slide the key out is on the bottom of the fob, not the side.
I just got a rav4 and to this helped me figure out jow to pull out the internal key! I knew it was in there i just wasnt sure how to take out and i wanted to research before i messed around and broke it. Thank you very much!

Thanks FB helpful video. One thing I would add is to make sure you keep the buttons-side down throughout this process, otherwise you might spill out the buttons and the protective rubber pc board cover.
You're the absolute best for doing this! Thank you!
Thanks! Saved me a trip to Toyota😃😃😃
Excellent instruction - super easy to follow. Thank you!
Used the video today. The key can be used instead of the flat head. There's a little grove on the end. Good to pop out the battery as well.
Very easy with the help of your video- thank you!🇨🇦

This was very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to post his.
I have a 2017 Toyota Rav4 XLE and my key doesn't look like this? The fob is triangular in shape and the key doesn't appear to come out of the black housing?

Perfect! Thank you for great, easy instructions!
Thank you very much😍just changed battery in my Rav4...😁😁😁
I changed the battery. I used an energizer CR2032 not a Panasonic brand. The key fob did not work. Do I have to do any kind of resetting? HELP!!
Awesome! Super-Easy-for my battery at Walmart-thank you!
Some sources say Rav4 uses the 2016 battery, while others say 2032. So which is it, or are the two sizes interchangeable?
I bought a 2032 battery based on this video, but when I opened up the fob, it was a 2016 (for a 2016 RAV4). The circumference of the two batteries are the same, but 2016 is not as thick as the 2032.

precise directions. thank you!
You qre the best! Excellent directions!
I recently learned that the tip of the metal key can inserted into the slot to split the fob in half. No tools necessary!
Thank you … exactly as instructed.
How come one video you say cr2016 and then in this one it says cr2032? I put a cr2032 and still doesn't work?
Nice and easy. Excellent video.. it helped me with my fob. Thanks guys!
Thank you. Perfect instructions.
Actually don't need a screwdriver. The tip of the key fits exactly into the slot on the fob, and also fits under the battery to pry it out.
Great instructions! Thank you!
