I love the old stone walls, the patterns in the sand, the worn wooden post and that you noticed "the quiet battle happening" in the water. Mainly though, I love that you made note of the feeling you have while being in an ancient place! You both are truly content to walk amongst the quiet of the day with the sun shining through the clouds in the chill and bitter cold! ❤
That was fascinating seeing the ancient Roman Port, thank you for filming and sharing! Love it! Would love to have seen more of the town so if you go back... you two are adorable! I’m in the USA btw.
Believe or not i´am 52 years old and from Sweden, we sing that song in school when i was about 8 . I love mudlarking videos and this was very interesting.
I’m fairly new to mudlarking but find you and your mum a breath of fresh air...just wished you could do even more videos. Keep on entertaining us and keep up the good work.
Really enjoyable Video, you certainly captured the atmosphere of that ancient port, I'm a detectorist, field walker, bottle digger, youtuber but have yet to mudlark, we don't have too many rivers locally here in Penzance or rather ones that are big enough or accessible but after watching other mudlarkers and just recently finding your channel it needs to be done, I've had a lot of time stuck in after a bad accident a few months back and really want to have a go, I find your videos very calming and entertaining many thanks for that, lovely little iridescent bottle.
@@NorthernMudlarks Yes I certainly will, I'll try a mud larking video although I'm sure I'll end up wet LOL. Thank you both for your hard work in producing these great videos.

I enjoyed this video especially because it once was a Roman town. I like how you and your mom talk about the history of Port Mary also when you were talking about the feel of the river how it was spooky ☠ it because their must be a lot of past souls there. I must go for a visit .🇺🇸
Hi Muddy Angels, Wonderful video and excellent production as usual. I loved the 'What shall we do with a drunken sailor' song (in acapella?) That metal thing you thought was a pot at 12:10. is a piston from an engine. I'm already subbed to Kit and Caboodlers and you guys are so much alike that you should get together for a festive lark somewhere and make a joint video. I was wondering if you made some Mosaic artwork out of your pretty crockery shards? All you need is an old glass-less picture frame and a tub of tile cement. Making Mosaics is a great way of displaying the bits of crockery you find. Stay safe ladies. Big hugs for you both. Louie. xx
Hello Louie! Thank you very much! It is "drunken sailor" in acapella, yes. It's interesting about the piston, mum suggested that too when we watched the video back actually! I'd like to meet them someday, it would be nice to do something together. I did also make a pottery mosaic and had it framed in a shadow box. We sold it from our shop yesterday! I think you're telepathic haha 😊 x
@@NorthernMudlarks Roll on part 2 !! I can't wait to see what else you found. Oh, by the way, " twisted metal Iron rope " is usually called 'cable' lol (sorry for being cheeky) The 'rock cork' thing is where a large hole has been drilled into concrete or rock using a cylindrical core drill, the 'cork' is the waste material from inside the drill bit. The hole would have probably been drilled to be used as a mooring point for boats. The core drill took a while to centre itself at the start of the hole and as it bounced around made the object narrower at one end. The high number of nails probably come from a small boat dismantling business in that area. The oldest nails are the flat or square section copper and iron nails, these would often be hand forged individually by a blacksmith (with a lot of patience.) lol xx
You are both amazing, I love how you notice the shapes in the sand. Your picking up the energy that's in every bottle or nic nac you find. I can feel it through the phone. The difference between you finding a 2hundred yr old bottle to finding a one thats only a few yrs. I love listening to all the stories you tell, the info yr spreading and even keeping younger people and kids, ingaged in what yr doing. Wanting others to learn more about our own history, good and bad. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou love from Australia 🌻✌😊
Another great video! Love the small colorful jar! Love the bottle stopper and the sea glass! Thanks for bringing us along on your mudlarking adventure!!
A recent video of your popped up while I was watching Random animal videos on Facebook. I loved it! I live near the mouth of the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon, US. Astoria is the oldest American town west of the Rocky Mountains, but that's only around 200 years of settlement. There are Native Americans, but most of what the Chinookan people made was out of wood, so you don't find anything older than 150 years unless you stumble upon a shipwreck, and there were plenty here, but they are almost underwater or buried in sand. I have gone mudlarking, beachcombing, and crystal hunting many times myself so I enjoy vicariously tagging along on your expeditions. You two pick up many of the same things I would pick up, and your jewelry and other things that you make are beautiful! I am amazed by the pea hens and how friendly they are. Our next door neighbor had a peacock for several years, but he always ran away from humans, or flew up into a tree. The videos are beautiful and I enjoy learning the history of your area through the artifacts that you find. I love the little pauses for landscape or nature scenes. In a way, I feel as if we are kindred spirits. I once strung, like beads, a number of old broken bottle necks that I had mudlarked. I hung them like a garland along the edge of my front porch. My Father, gone more than 30 years now, sang me the drunken sailor song when I was a child. He had a beautiful singing voice and I can remember what he sounded like singing that song, even though I have forgotten how he sounded when he spoke. I love your voices too! I chuckle at the excited sounds Alex makes when spotting something good! Thank you! I fully intend to watch every one of your videos over the next few weeks.
I loved this adventure. The calm, loveliness of the locations, and subdued narrative was spellbinding. I am very attached to you both-such a sweet and smart team! Thank you for doing what you do. From Mary in Sacramento California.
Thank you for sharing your adventures. Love seeing your part of the world. Would love to visit your country someday. Especially like the Mother /Daughter aspect of your videos, and you (Alex) have such a lovely, soothing voice. I'm a fan from the states!
I really enjoyed this video. The history of the area has me intrigued along with a the skeletal boat/ship remains all along the river just draws me in. The music you used in the video is so beautiful.
I am REALLY enjoying your "Mudlarking". Here in the states we call it "Beachcombing". I'm a beachcomber from way back. I grew up on the coast of California (Santa Barbara area & south of there). However, I spent most of my life in the ocean surfing, body surfing, sailing, scuba diving, fishing, etc. I love seeing the beautiful & quaint ports of the U.K. i spent half a month touring Scotland (mostly eastern - Edinburgh & up the North East coast to Peterhead & up around. Came down through the center; spent a few days in Pitlochry & attended the Highland Games there & walked the river Tay (I fell in love with Pitlochry-would LOVE to live there someday!). I saw many other sites. But, more important, was my twin sister, myself & husbands took my 86 year old Mother to Scotland! We are descendants of Gordon Highlanders. We took Mom to her castle (yes, she actually owned it at one time, but she turned it over to the Scottish Government so that it could be restored somewhat & become an historical landmark). We took Mom to "her" castle, which she had never seen (she had never been to Scotland.). The castle name is: Huntly Castle. It is in semi ruins, but still very beautiful! Check it out on the internet. It was the Gordon Stronghold. The nearby village of Huntly is very charming & the countryside is gorgeous! Saw many beautiful castles & examined their history. I have an anthropological background which is probably why I love your "Mudlarking" videos. Also, I prefer the term "Mudlarking" over "Beachcombing". Mudlarking sounds more romantic 😊 Keep bringing your fun videos. I love the treasures you find, and, historically, they are also very informative. Have fun, I'll be watching. Lindsay, Sacramento, California ❣
Hiya, Monika from Australia 💕. Brilliant video, I love the way you both describe yr surroundings as well as the treasures you find. I totally understand what you mean about the vibe of a place, it can be so very powerful 💕✌😊
That’s very sweet of you to give a shout-out to another mudlarking channel. I’ll go check them out. By the way, I enjoyed your day out in this ancient port. It’s an amazing and peaceful thing to be standing where the water will rise high and where there is so much interesting human history. And, I love your drunken sailor music....it’s fun to sing and hum to it.
Correct front or boat bow, back of the boat is the stern. I believe the left side of the boat is the port side, right side is the starboard side. A great journey, thank you for all the both of you do and taking us all along. Much love from New Jersey in the states.
Awesome video, my family has roots in Ireland, my mom's mom, my grans family came from county Cork. That would be a dream trip for me, to meet family I've never known much of. My grandmother was Irish with the temper to match and my grandad was full blood Cherokee Indian. Keep up the good work. You take people to places they will never be able to see. God bless and keep you
So interesting to rewatch an earlier video. I have to say, Alex, you have a true talent for film. You’ve got a great eye. I am quite sure you and Gail have the chops and the skill sets to make a wonderful historical / mudlarking documentary.
Hi. The cylinder-shaped rock at 2:58 is a core sample brought up by exploratory drilling into the earth. The round object at 12:15 is a piston from an internal combustion engine e.g. a motor car engine.
Congratulations on your channel !really relaxing and interesting watching you both explore some beautiful places and interesting objects. Keep up the good work love it...the prettiest Mudlark on RUclips. Paul 👌
That was wonderful. Thank you. I shall look forward to part 2. The feeling you described that is engendered by an ancient place is real and powerful. I've felt it myself several times.
I don't think it matters too much if you don't find any 'real' treasure as Alex is a treasure all to herself! Maryport looked wonderful, and you certainly made me realize we'd missed out not visiting when we had the chance! Tourism's bound to go up in The North once folk are free to travel. I think it would be wonderful to dredge that harbour and dump all the mud where you could easily trawl thru' it! Looking forward to Part2 Thank you! 👍😻🦘🐾😎
Really enjoy your videos. Thank you. As a father of two girls, I too enjoy taking them to streams and rivers looking for treasures. We have many fossils in the central plains of the USA. Keep it up, enjoy ing it.
Love this place...I sea fish from a boat which you fleetingly captured. It was moored up along side the wall near the aquarium ( which is an amazing place if you haven't been ). Thanks for the fantastic videos, you are both doing so well with your channel...x
Hello again, Gail and Alex and greetings from British Columbia, Canada! I'm really enjoying your videos and especially like your brief descriptions of the area, the history and each item you discover. I'm so looking forward to Part 2 so I can see the lovely iridescent bottle once it's been cleaned up. Cheers!

It's so wonderful to follow you on your adventures as you uncover treasures of times past. Thank you for letting us come along! And a big hello from across the pond! Oregon-USA! :D
Love it when you go to Queen's Ferry. I had a lunch in a pub just below the bridge when visiting my son who lives near Perth. He took us there but before I knew about the beach combing possibilities.
That was a lovely little outing and I look forward to part 2. I've never been that far north, but Mary port looks charming - just one of so many great little towns along the north of England coast. Mother nature is such an amazing artist! I'll be sure to follow the link to 'Kit and Caboodlers', thank you for sign posting.
There are some beautiful places this far north you should visit if you ever get the chance😊 Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoy Kit and Caboodlers.
Susan, thank you for that bit of information! I truly love these Mudlarking videos! Love seeing the beautiful & very quaint Ports (so much history & great little historical treasures). Anyway, I find all of the historical significance fascinating; here in the U.S., our history is quite brief. Thanks, Lindsay, Sacramento, California ❣
Y’all need a magnet to drag on the ground and see what it picks up. Cute little jars. We have a saying here in the states “find a penny pick it up and all the day you’ll have good luck” You could collect small pieces of different colored pottery and make a mosaic table top 😎

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip! Thanks so much for watching! xx
Just fabulous. Loved the music and the scenery. Thank you for taking us along! X
thank you for sharing your adventures with us! :)
Thank you for watching!
Who else was singing with the music at the start?
Every word
Isobelle Smith me!
Love 💕 love your channel one of my favorites on RUclips . Thanks for all your lovely videos .
Glad you went to Maryport . Often overlooked. Lovely videos many thanks .
Finding some of your older videos and loving it. Thanks
Thank you for a wonderful adventure in Maryport from the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 xx love the hat ..
what a beautiful place..thanks for taking us along.
God bless and keep you
Thanks for taking us on that beautiful cold mudlark!
So interesting to rewatch an earlier video. I have to say, Alex, you have a true talent for film. You’ve got a great eye. I am quite sure you and Gail have the chops and the skill sets to make a wonderful historical / mudlarking documentary.
Always enjoy your videos. Your enthusiasm your mom is so beautiful and she is out there digging away. You two are awesome!
Hi. The cylinder-shaped rock at 2:58 is a core sample brought up by exploratory drilling into the earth. The round object at 12:15 is a piston from an internal combustion engine e.g. a motor car engine.
Yay so so happy you just posted this!! 😊 Love going on your adventures
Congratulations on your channel !really relaxing and interesting watching you both explore some beautiful places and interesting objects. Keep up the good work love it...the prettiest Mudlark on RUclips. Paul 👌
You do such a nice job. You exude a positive, inquisitive spirit...and by all appearances, a sweet family.
That was wonderful. Thank you. I shall look forward to part 2. The feeling you described that is engendered by an ancient place is real and powerful. I've felt it myself several times.
What a beautiful day
I don't think it matters too much if you don't find any 'real' treasure as Alex is a treasure all to herself! 👍😻🦘🐾😎
What a beautiful day thank you
Really enjoy your videos.
What a beautiful place and awesome hunt!! What a great day!!
Your music is wonderful ladies!
Cheers!
Your videos are brilliant! So relaxing. So wholesome.
Thank you very much Alex&Mum🙏 I really appreciate Your great work of mudlarking & video👍
- With certainty, I will lokk at the "Kit And Caboodles" channel and subscribe.
Great music in the beginning! Another great video as well😊
Yes, very beautiful :) Thanks for sharing. :)
There are many mudlarking videos on RUclips, but you are my absolute favorite! I think it is so amazing that you are a mother/daughter team. It's so wonderful to follow you on your adventures as you uncover treasures of times past. Thank you for letting us come along! And a big hello from across the pond! Oregon-USA! :D
Aww, thanks Deborah! We love having you with us on our adventures!
Looking forward to the next one.
Loved the rousing rendition of the song!
I do follow kit and caboodlers. I enjoy them too. Thanks for another great adventure and history lesson. I always enjoy watching.
Lovely as always.
Lovely performance of that song!
What an interesting light house. Looks like a big post lamp!
Great finds and beautiful location! Love the music 😁
I hope you enjoy Kit and Caboodlers.
that was fun to watch, i love those pink sea shells.
I was there this morning, doing photography.
The pipe stem hole was large in late Victorian era when tobacco was cheaper. The smaller the hole, the older the pipe. 🌍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌍
Best town in England love it born there live in Manchester now
Always love watching!!!! Keep up the beautiful trips!
You two are so beautiful and charming. I always enjoy to see what you find.😊😊😊
Thank you very much Laurel! 😊
Y’all need a magnet to drag on the ground and see what it picks up. Cute little jars. We have a saying here in the states “find a penny pick it up and all the day you’ll have good luck” You could collect small pieces of different colored pottery and make a mosaic table top 😎
Hello! From Arkansas. Love the music.
Ladies, what an interesting mudlark along the Ellen! One could almost feel the history! I'm already subbed to Kit and Caboodlers, aren't their videos darling? I so enjoyed being with you, and can't wait for Part 2!
Thanks for being with us, Cynthia! x
I love the music! So much history here. Ancient atmosphere.
I love that song! I don't know why but I remember singing that when I was a child. Probably because my Dad was in the Navy. He probably taught me. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
I enjoy your videos and the places you go love the music. 👌👌
Can't wait til part 2!
