Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan: United With Christ Through the Eucharist

In 1975, Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan was arrested by the communist party in south Vietnam and lived for 30 years as a prisoner. He endured mental and physical torture, and yet his focus was on how, despite his circumstances, he might be united to Christ through the Eucharist. His family managed to send him wine and a small piece of bread, and Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan celebrated Mass and received the body of and blood of Christ in his prison cell.
