      I was dating a woman a few years back and the house she was renting with a friend, and they both had a very lazy landlord. Anyway the roommate's sink handle broke off because of shotty workmanship, and this ended up flooding the upstairs bathroom and the downstairs master bathroom. For 10 minutes she panicked and did nothing, and the other roommate just didn't even bother to help. I'm not even that handy, yet I knew to walk in and turned off the water to the sink.
      Imagine how much damage could have been prevented if people thought about this... And the entire house smelled like mold after that. Landlord didn't do anything, it was all to the tenants to take care of.

      @@MrAlexSan00 I've had a pipe bust in my laundry room and instantly turned off the water. That definitely saved me from expensive damage, just had to throw the clothes into the garage for a bit, soak up as much water as I could then put a fan in so I was thankful I was home when it happened . I just never thought of it when having a toilet clog.
      I hope she found a new place to rent soon after that. It stinks when landlords are like that taking no responsibility for their property just collecting rent. 😕

      My son shared a house with two other young men and he told me about how this one roommate, we’ll call him Jack, stood staring at the toilet while the water overflowed onto the floor! My son said something rude, told him to get out of the way, and reached down and turned the water off. Jack said “I didn’t know what that was for until now.” I tried to teach my son basic renters’ skills when he was a teenager to prepare him for being on his own, including how to put out a fire on the stovetop and how to do laundry in a shared laundry room.

    Thanks. I had no idea that those existed especially for toilets. A thing my dad taught me was to (if the toilet is not overflowing with water) dump a bucket of water into the toilet really fast. The power of the water will flush it down and unclogg the toilet most of the time. But again, do not try this when your toilet is filled with water, wait a few minutes and see if some of the water goes down first before trying.

    I knew most of this, but I didn't know about the dish soap trick, and I never thought to turn the water off either, so this helped to expand my knowledge of the issue. Thank you, dad! :)

    Dad, How do we clean an old linoleum floor from the 70's?

    • @sharong8511
      @sharong8511 3 года назад +4

      My Mom used to do it on her knees with a bucket of warm water and a scrub brush. Get some Mr Clean and read the directions. Good luck 😉

      Use a harsher pad to clean

      @@IINSPIR3DD
      Do you mean like a Scotchbrite pad? Yes she might need something more abrasive than a scrub brush, depending on how dirty the linoleum is and if there’s anything stuck to it like underneath the stove and refrigerator. Elbow grease, a good cleanser whether homemade or purchased and some warmish/hot water. She may be able to rent an upright floor scrubber. My Mom used to own one that did scrubbing, waxing and polishing. She did my bedroom floor one day when I was at school and when I was walking out of my room carrying my Grandfather’s antique typewriter I slipped on the floor and dropped the typewriter, cracking the cast iron case. Oops 😬

    I watched this video when my toilet at my apartment complex was clogged for the first time. I never knew the tip on turning the water off. I didn’t need to use it then but recently I was woken up at 3am to that pipe disconnecting from the back of the toilet and spraying water everywhere. Learning the trick to cut the water off SAVED MY BUTT and helped me get control of the situation. Thanks for helping me Internet Dad 😊

    I needed this about a month ago. I didn't have the plunger, so went to *Amazon and got the same one with a stand and cover for the floor not to get dirty.* I didn't have the strength to push like you did though, and had to wait for a colleague to help.
