    This was done as kind of an experiment to see how few takes I could do on my line readings, in order to speed up the production process. I generally spend way too much time recording and re-recording lines, which leads to me taking forever painstakingly looking for the best one and splicing them together when necessary during the editing process. For this one I tried to simply stop after the first take as many times as I could. There are a few parts that maybe sound a bit flubbed, but hopefully it turned out okay. I was able to go from recording the lines to finishing the video in about a week, which was much faster than I'd been doing and could possibly lead to me getting stuff out more frequently again.

      I'm sure you do something similar already, but if not, I remember reading one time that a RUclipsr would tap their mic a couple times when they stumbled over a line, and then pause for a moment, and then start over. This causes the microphone to peak and it gives you a visual que on your audio track timeline so you can see exactly where every take starts.
      Though honestly you did fine with this one. I really enjoyed it! Thanks for the upload! 😁

      @@Gundalow Glad you liked it! That is something I do when recording, but it is good advice. I guess I just wanted to cut down on the audio editing as much as I could, because sometimes I'll have over 30 minutes of audio to sift through for a three or four minute segment. This one only had about 18 minutes in total.

      Your takes seemed mostly fine to me! It sometimes does sound like you're just reading your script though rather than naturally talking. But you could do both things...work on taking the first or second take while also reading new lines naturally. One tip I've heard a few times is read your script out loud in a mirror while looking away from the text as often as you can. Focus on trying to give the words a natural tone and inflection.
      Good job on the video! I also like playing new translations as they feel like new games to me. But I might just be skipping this one!

    I saw a comment on a thread somewhere that had explained that the reason the music is so awful is because it was coded into the game in the wrong key and it plays incorrectly during the game. If you listen to the music from the soundtrack CD that was released from this game, you can listen to the OST as it's intended and it's not even that bad tbh. This game just had everything possible going against it and somehow it still saw the light of day.

      The music I have playing in the background is the non-messed up versions of the tracks. They definitely sound better than what’s in the actual game.

    Maybe they went for "roman" in the title aiming at its French meaning of "story" -- not that "ancient story" sounds that great either.

    • @notbaldfrost
      @notbaldfrost 2 месяца назад +5

      That is where the word in Japanese comes from. Usually, though, it either refers to romantisme and its literature, OR it means something like "adventurous ideal/spirit" and describes things that rouse it. This gives it some overlap with the Arthurian senses of "romance" that we have in English. It's a common yet tricky word.
      On another note, the "Ancient" part of the title is spelled wrong. It should be anshento, not anshanto. That's why if you just look up アンシャント you get the game.

    Ah I know this game from watching a Japanese Game RUclipsr who usually plays kusoge (translation: shitty games). The reason why with those highest prices on auction sites was coz it was joked by the JP game community as one of the rarest kusoge ever. xD

    I'll be honest, the beginning of the game reminds me a lot of Legend of the Dragoon, just with much worse production values. Edit: well, as you mention, that world map says it all. Even the string instrument in the soundfont sounds similar.

    Regarding your top-comment, I felt some of your line-reads had a slightly stilted "stop and go" effect, but not enough to really impact my fun with the video. Besides, even if less re-takes may lead to some aural jank... nothing couod possibly be as bad as this bugged music, repetitively scripted nightmare of a game. I saw a let's play of the first hour or so, and when the village got razed was portrayed by enemy models and villager models just standing in front of each other while waving arms at each other like they're slapfighting... OR how there's a pause whenever you execute an attack in the game because the game needs to load in the sound-effect of your (or the enemy's) strike... what can you even say? It's a game that does justice to it's reputation as the cream of the crap. It does jank and biggy things I've not seen ANY other PS1 rpg do. It fascinates me... but you are far braver than I, for actually playing it.
