He's beyond amazing .. Daniel ., almighty daniel johns .. so much beauty and talent placed into one little guy
Watching and hearing Chris jamming like this...this is precious, this is gold. Thank you very much for sharing
Daniel is a great talent but how lucky was he to have Ben? There have been *MANY* a very talented rock singer songwriters who lived and died having never been heard of because they never had a great drummer. I'd bet 50 to 1 that Nirvana's Nevermind (and their subsequent record) would've sold 1/10th or less had they never hired Dave Grohl and recorded that record with Dan Peters.
5:06 that's a pretty sick groove from Ben and Chris. I feel like these two never got the credit they deserved. Not to take away from Daniel, but Ben also co-wrote nearly all of the music, and Chris had the job of keeping up with Daniel and serving as the sonic glue between Daniel and Ben.
Rashad Choudhury Ben only co-wrote in frogstomp and I think freakshow, none of the later albums though. Neon ballroom and Diorama were all Daniel, young modern was mainly Daniel with some songs written with another person. But i agree with everything you said. They really deserved more credit than they got. No doubt Daniel is fantastic, but so were Ben and Chris. 😊
the dont want fame, the 3 of them worked hard fairly just to stay on their peak. and they are all happy now with their own businesses and families.
I totally agree
x cait Didn’t Ben’s Mum get into a legal battle with Daniel because she wanted Ben to be credited on more of the songs??
Super Nova HUH
Jesus christ, how pissed I am that my little 12 year old ass couldn't find a way to get to this show before they stopped touring. Such a great small venue for them too.
DAMN!!!!!! This is so good! Where is old Silverchair :( :( :(
Emotion sickness is so epic from a songwriting perspective. I wasn't really ready for it at the time. Although I did see them on this tour and I remember what a great, exciting opener that song was.
But even watching them play it during soundcheck you get those "Woah....holy shit" vibes from that song.
Always thought ben was a good drummer, but this confirms it. Coaxing the keyboardist into kashmir was nice
Priceless
20:50 "Bottled Violence" by Minor Threat. Shame they never recorded that one along with the "Fix Me", "Wasted", and "Minor Threat" covers they did, it sounds nice here.
Oh my God, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING! 😮😍🧡
GOOD GOLD AND OLD DAYS. Thanks for sharing this!

A soundcheck like this is just a gem nowadays on RUclips 😉👌🏻
lol... I still don't know after watching this. I've even done a soundcheck before and I have no idea what it is. lol
They tell you to play and then shut up, so I did. That's all I really remember.
I'd actually rather watch this than anything by "dreams".
Danny Russell fan-fucking-tastic for me??? It was just a flip comment-that on a large scale, many Silverchair fans would agree with as well.
Peace ✌🏼
_Diorama_ and _Young Modern_ are Silverchair's best albums, ms. lisa murphy.
Danny Russell I personally think that Silverchair is its own genre. Seriously. Each record has elements from the last - yet unique and individual in its own way.
Strangely, while SC is my favorite band -I can’t definitively put their records in a “list”.
Depending on my mood whatever - what ever SC record I’m jamming to is my favorite THAT DAY.
But if I had to pick one as their Masterpiece-their zeitgeist....hands down it would be “neon ballroom”. This record is where the band put a final period on grunge and came into their own -NB is an exhaustive journey slithering down into the murky depths of what Daniel was experiencing at the time. What a huge risk that record was. And jumping right into the whirlwind of emotion sickness-leaving the listener on edge, bereft
Than you’re swooped up into the methodical thud of “Anthem for the year 2000....Daniel remarked at the time, his catalyst for the crowd pleaser-was, he pondered the possibility of playing Wembley Stadium et al. And wanted a “we will, we will...rock you” vibe. An Anthem. He wrote the song -in a couple minutes.
But Daniel, being the visionary prodigal that he is -wrote a song that fits right in to the social discord, strife and antagonism going on-not to mention a global pandemic -that will garner historical measures-and be a subject our great , great grandchildren will study light years away. But extricate all that - and it’s Silverchair turned up to 11. I say -Anthem For the year 2000 is good till 2999.
Ana’s Song.. This is Daniel -the one we sorely miss. Using music to bleed out his pain and get out of his head. He obligingly takes the listener along. Enough said.
The next couple tracks - be advised: strap in and hold on. A roller coaster of sorts that take you to the pinnacle, many times. Whether it’s a beautiful ballad about adoration mixed with hatred of the price paid.
“Dearest Helpless” might just be my favorite on the record. Daniels voice sublime. His instincts are spot on. His uncanny sense of seducing the listener & throwing shade at the same time. Spawn again throws you off a cliff. Gotta say -this track was meant for playing live. See: Bologna Italy also it’s their finale on the “live in Melbourne” -the whole concert Is perfection- but ending it so ferociously.....Daniel goes all the way . How fittingly, that after track after track of falling into chaos, biting lyrics, love and hate - the boys tie it all up into a hypnotic silky ending. “”Steam will Rise” leaves all the depression and disaster in the rear view, gently leaving you whole again -till next listen. Lol
Might as well mention a somewhat recent observation. Neon Ballroom has always held the reputation as Silverchair’s “doom & gloom” record.
But here I go -decades later- and I’ve completely got it wrong.
Freak show, was expected to be the Frogstomp 2, the boys were now...,,16 years old! Had it been a Slightly Frogstomp sounding record-the voracious SC fanatics would still have devoured every last morsel.
But alas, these fellas were ready to stretch a bit farther. Experiment here and there. Oh, the blistering rock is still intact -starting with “Slave” ....”Freak” ... but this record really glommed on to the trajectory SC would continue to refine, they still had that adorable nonchalant attitude, if the fans liked it ? Swell. This wasn’t manufactured. They made a record THEY liked.
Well , a whole lot of people did like it. Well, except the corporate critics. I recently came across a Rolling Stone review for 🚩Freak Show. By some imbecile chick - how original of her ! Making Nirvana comparisons every other song. There was little she had to say that delved into the record itself.
If she had, you know -done her now irrelevant job- she could have discovered brilliance within Freak Show. Particularly the genius songwriting that Daniel so effortlessly was adapt at.
After -oh, hundreds Of listens , it was clear, Neon Ballroom was dark. But Freak Show? FS was/is pitch fucking black. An utter descent into looking into the abyss.
Thing is....Daniel used his knack of taking that pitch black subject matter and wrapping it in bright sunny
Melodies.
“Pop song for us Rejects” is the track that turned me around. The songs intro, sounds like pure 70’s soft rock. In fact, the track is so benign - so so catchy, it’s easy to be distracted from the lyrics. Those lyrics!
He might sound light as air - but he is far past being fed up. A friend has depleted him of empathy, has drained e dry drop if supportive energy. It’s clear - the drugs, the drink, the conniving manipulative lies upon lies -taking advantage of the long ago memories of childhood that seem to bind them eternally -its all broken. It’s all over.
“You died yesterdaaaaaaay
@@runnersdialzero1244 young modern was shit. In sales, style, genre, sound,...a shitty copy of Kula Shaker and brit pop. The last album by SC was Diorama, and it was amazing.
Agree with u!

SOUNDCHECKS can be really fun

❤️🔥
Awesome omg
23:45 that sexy BLACK BEAUTY of HONOR
Is also cool to hear pure instrumental version of Spawn again
since intrumental music is always tragically overlooked ..
there is 2 version for this spawn track in case some may not know
there's a very cool synth darkwave version that was part of the Spawn OST
Both are simply awesome versions
Rare sighting of Ben with a shirt on
❤
