Always look forward to your posts.❤
New sub here. It would take a lot of time and energy to sand down all my oak cabinets. I haven't done it because I'm worried about biting off more than I can chew. And you're the first person I've found who's offering a way to work with what I've already got! You are truly a breath of fresh air!!
Thanks for your insights.... not everyone has the budget to rip everything out and start from scratch.... so it's nice to have someone provide options that are not only affordable and stylish ... but encourage sustainability
Great advice! Thank you, Jane! Huge fan of yours.
Thank you so much for this video. I have the old oak cabinets like the last picture you showed. I like the black countertops and the white backsplash. Now I need ideas for wall colors for this kitchen. Thanks so much for this video.
Great tips! Thank you!
WOW! Just subscribed! Been watching you since Cityline had Homeday on Thurs. ❤
OMG! It’s exactly what I will be trying to do with my oak kitchen cabinets! Can you tell us what you think about painting lower cabinets (midnight blue) and keeping the upper cabinets oak? Is the paint going to last for a long time?
I spray painted my oak cabinets 12 years ago and they need re-doing. I had 3 coats cover (was advised to do 6 but that would take too long at the time)
@@iaf6563 Oh interesting! Thank you for your answer! 6 coats of spray paint... That seems like a lot! Good to know!
❤❤❤
I agree with much of what you say. Here is where I disagree. @ 3:45… that oak has been washed down with a grey tone. It’s not the typical orange oak. That is the only reason this is successful. In my opinion, the only way to update the oak is to change its colour. If you keep the orange oak, it still stays dated. You either stain it a darker colour or paint it. ( Horrors! Painted wood! ). Also adding a bulkhead dates it even further. I guess I’m old enough to remember all those old ugly bulkheads. In my opinion, if you do anything to make it look classy and not typical of a certain era it will always attract attention. ( Favourably! ).
I have yet to see a colour that goes with well with any wood tbh be it furniture cabinetry or trim...white or maybe black or grey is best imo.
There is NOTHING wrong with oak cabinets. They are NOT bossy. Be thankful you have a kitchen. These kind of videos just make people discontent with what they have.
Working within your budget to change can cultivate thankfulness and satisfaction Having a workspace that is refreshed gives a sense of peace and can be done without going into debt. Since the kitchen is one of the most used rooms in our homes, investing in updating that space makes sense …..and when the homeowner sells a home with an updated kitchen it will not only be easier to sell, it will sell for a higher price. Good investment!
