I have listened and reflected, felt the utmost horror, rage and despair about the genocide that is being committed in plain sight by the Israelis. I have protested, supported charities, written to my government……but I don’t know what to do to make a difference. I wish there was there more of a conversation about what we can do….what I can do……to be part of stopping this.
Daniel Levy has been a breath of fresh air. The fact that a former Israeli government negotiator is providing a perspective that completely rejects his country's orthodoxy of ethno-supremacism and occupation is very significant. It shows how far the dial has shifted.

We can't start with October 7th, we must recognise the context of intolerable oppression and dehumanisationn of palestinians up to this point. But I think I hear in this discussion that panellists are saying it is right for Hamas to retain hostages taken in the carnage of 7th October as "leverage"? Is that really the right pathway to sustainable peace when it rewards tactics of murder and hostage taking?
I backtracked to listen again and you should too... 12:55 to 14:35 He clearly says at 13:20 that "Israelii's shouldn't be held in Ga3a especially Israelii civilians" He is demonstrating that due to Israell's government's unwillingness to a permanent ceasefir3 , that the hostag3s are their only leverage to negotiate in a completely desperate situation not to be completely wiped out. @peace-in-our-lifetime thanks for taking the time to respond to my comment. One panellist does preface with there should not be civilian hostages, but the rest of the conversation does continue to defend them being retained as leverage for a permanent ceasefire. It also assumes that their intention was to protect palestinan lives from more horrendous israeli armed action. I dont see the evidence for this. Point on political prisoners well taken. From Hamas' point of view, it's 'fair' to retain hostages. For me it's ugly. They don't want peace, a two state solution, or protection of palestians lives. Nor does Israel under Netanyahu. October 7th and retention of hostages gives netanyahu license for horrific action. Horrific israeli action gives Iran and Iranian proxies an international cover for their awful plays in their domestic arenas while broadening the battlefield to ordinary citizens in these lands and beyond. Its ugly, and no one here cares about the palestinans. Justifying hamas' actions is not part of the answer. I should add. I agree with everything else that was said in this discussion. The only point I take issue with is the conclusion that hostages take is legitimate, or effective in achieving the outcome we all want to see - namely an end to the barbarity and creation of a Palestinians state.

As a US taxpayer I have no interest in funding his endless war and in particular because they can't be won.
