Instead of completely disabling the spring using zipties., tie them around 2-3 turns of the spring. By adjusting the ties you can remove 90% of the spring force, allowing almost free movement, but the joystick still has some self-centering. This also allows you to use the sim's built in trim commands (FSX/P3D) without worrying about the joystick flopping around if you let go.
i use a modified microsoft ffb 2 stick with extended carbon tube for long cyclic grip and attached a thrustmaster topgun grip for the huey and typical helicopter cyclic look. I use sim ffb for dampener effect and I use virpil pedals with spring removed. I can't wait to get a collective to finish the thing off.
I use the X-55 Rhino with the soft springs. I love the way it works with choppers (when DCS Trim is working correctly). I have no issues with the way it works. It is a great Hotas for both Fixed Wing and Rotary Sims (except that internally the wiring is total shit and breaks over time and use).
One question, do helicopter are not supposed to have springs cyclic? I have a Logitech x52 HOTAS to use for the Helicopters in Squad and the game only has trim method.
