Cow parsley is hairy (very fine, very short, velvet-like hairs, sometimes hard to see but always giving leaf stems and flowering stems a rough feel). Hemlock is entirely free of hairs - they will feel smooth. This is your most useful comparison, but don’t make it the only one! Cow parsley has U shaped leaf stems (or more like a D on its side). Hemlock has rounded leaf stems, though these do form sheaths near their base. Cow parsley leaf stems and flowering stems tend to be greenish - purple, sometimes entirely purple, but they are NEVER blotchy. Hemlock flowering stems are blotched with purple, though the blotches can be minimal, occasionally absent, especially when young. Cow parsley leaves smell of parsley if you crush them in your fingers. Hemlock leaves smell a bit unpleasant - a little acrid/ammoniac (often described as “of mouse pee”, though I doubt many people know the smell of mouse pee nowadays!). Clearly smell is subjective, but it can be a useful part of your ID toolkit given some practice and experience.
Hi guys, just showed my husband and he says that is definitely hemlock, he is a horticulturalist. He had just looked at the stalks and said yes, that's hemlock and then described leaves and flowers before he even saw them. Hope that helps. There is now way to get rid of it without using chemicals, something called Roundup is the best one, but follow these rules too:How to safely remove Hemlock Always wear gloves, mask, and protective clothing when handling the plant. Dig out all the plant(s), including the long taproot, (alternatively, glyphosate treatment can be used to eradicate the plant). Wash your hands, preferably with soap, after bagging up the plant for removal. BY THE WAY, the Portuguese word for hemlock is CICUTA (see-coo-ta). May be helpful if you need to ask for weed killer for that plant.
Or even better ask the locals if and how they manage the plant. It´s in it´s natural area which is the Med and Europe so it´s no use to throw poison at it. Since it will just come back. There are tons of other plants that are poisonous too and grow all around. This is no problem if you don´t randomly eat them. The kids are old enough not to do that. It´s not something that cats and dogs munch on either i think. Anyway, ask the locals.
omg what a great job badgers doing on the house barn its going to feel so good when its finished and you all have more space your a lovely couple with a beaut little family and i wish you all the luck in the world with it its so nice to see a happy family having a go much love 😘
loving the 2nd floor, you 2 are such fun love those windows & doors, hope you save some for the main build too, they will look stunning up there too! can't wait til next week thanx for sharing
You guys continue to amaze me. There are channels with way more subscribers which are not nearly as entertaining as yours! Hope it grows and grows! Best of luck with everything you are doing.
I see a lovely cottage in your very near future. A great place to contemplate the evolution of the stone house. I say NO to using "roundup" on the hemlock, as it causes cancer, and is already found in soils and water sources. I would contact knowledgeable people concerning this.❤
cow parsley has very fine hairs on the stem, hemlock has no hair. With cow parley, If you cut a stem you will see a slight dip running up through the middle, a bit like celery, also the leaves have a very feint parsley or aniseed like smell to them, whereas hemlock leaves smell kind of mousey or earthy. Hemlock stems are distinctly blotchy whereas cow parsley can have more solid areas of purple / reddishness
Always look forward to your videos... You never fail to continually surprise me with your ingenuity, a n d creativity...! Your self reliance and vision with what you have, is a lesson to us all! Happy Birthday Betsy... Enjoy! Creating precious moment's to remember are the best... Blessings to all...❤
Hi from Portugal! Hemlock is called Cicuta in PT, it is poisonous because it contains conine, which disrupts the central nervous system. It is a native plant, found everywhere in the countryside. My advice is to warn children of its danger and remove it by the roots in the areas close to the house and in the walkway. Despite being poisonous to humans and animals, it is highly appreciated by pollonizers. 🐝
Happiness is the Scotters Sunday vlog.😊 The second floor will be wonderful and I love the hunter green color for the window. I am looking forward to next Sunday.
Good morning! Please put joist hangers on to better secure them. I would hate for you two to fall through the floor up there! Great progress, though! 🤗
Morning Scotters!🌸🌺! Love ur thumbnail photo so cute! The music was great for viewing! So Scotters, what kind of activities are u talking about Badger!!! Naughty boy!! I love how u incorporate the old windows and doors in the place, but isn't it going to be really hot on that mezening?? The stairs are perfect but I can feel how scary it is!have a great week, can't wait for next Sunday! 🌸🌺🕊️🌷🌸🌺
Kayla your opening segue was so honest. But please know there are times that stepping back is actually catching up. The old adage should be two steps back, five forward. Your ability to move forward depends on being able to sustain the effort. You can do that so much easier if the entire family is nurtured in a communal space as large as it is comforting. The barndominium will do that for you. I predict moving into this temporary living space (let’s call it your very own AirBNB or Guest House) will one day be considered the turning point for finishing your forever home. It will have a profound effect, much like your sweet outdoor kitchen did. ❤
Great video, great music this week! Wow, Badger is a force to be reckoned with when he decides the second floor is going up! Can’t believe just how much you got done in a week! I notice Trixie has absolutely no qualms about going up a ladder! Your windows find is just amazing, they are just so right for the building! You are both a couple of visionaries, amazing! Have a good week.❤
UK aircraft do a Great video on how to identify, cow parsley has slightly hairy stems and hemlock has a groove (bit like celery). Just wear gloves and dig it up if it is. Xx
This weeks music choice was fabulous.. My gosh the mezzanine is a game changer.. I’m thinking you will have a bit of fun working out exactly where your mattress will finally reside. Happy Birthday Betsy.🎂🎂🎂 Love and bubbles from Oz🐨🐨🐨🐨🐨
Queen Anne’s lace jumped out at me as soon as I saw the plant. We had a farm growing up, and it was everywhere. It will grow about three feet tall, whereas Hemlock can grow up to 10 feet
I look forward to your videos. You are doing such a great job creating your new living space, I can’t wait to see what you’ve accomplished from week to week. And I am a true fan of the green color!
Hi, there used to be an add on tv here in australia and the husband was up in the roof working and his foot went through the floor and he asked his wife to go get a ladder, but she made a cuppa and was sitting on the lounge and he yells, “have you found the ladder yet love?” And she is sitting on the lounge with her cuppa and a cheeky smile and yells back..”still looking”. 😂🤣 kayla getting the ladder for badger reminded me of that add. It was very funny. You guys are doing an incredible job with that tiny house!
Just want you to know that your channel is my first choice for Sunday viewing and that means you are beating out Martijn Doolard. Some would consider that quite a compliment.
I always look forward to your Sunday video. You are smart to make a comfortable living space for your family before working on the big house. That way you don't take desperate short cuts on the big house.
It looks like kids would rather sleep up in too 😉😉 And if you are looking forward for the views now, I would like to see what you will be saying once you will be restoring big house and preparing your bedroom ☺
What a beautiful opening to your video! Your barn-house is so beautiful and fun! Once you get your permanent home built, guests will be thrilled to stay in your barn-house! It was a good thing that you did have that kitchen to your permanent home built. It is a great place to store things, but when you get back to building your permanent home, you will have to build another storage shed!
Good morning. I never realized you have such a beautiful view of the town in the distance. Beautiful. Another great start to my week. Good work all around. 🤗. You can get a plant identification app on your phone. Goid spotting by your viewers. 👍🏻. Love your music too 🤗
Great job on that 2nd floor. That mushroom at the beginning of the video was quite amazing. Not sure about the hemlock question but you have a digitalis purpea that looks amazing however the leaves are poisonous to human and have cardiac glycosides which may be fatal if ingested. They are also highly toxic for dogs if licked or ingested which can create seizures and abnormal cardiac rhythms. Looks like summer has already arrived there. Enjoy the beautiful weather and have a great week. Saludos from Chile.
The lyrics to one of the songs you played was, “Let’s not waste time, so take it slow. We’ve got miles behind us but miles to go. So let’s just break this down, to the simplest truth. You and I as one, will always be better than two”. Thats you and Badger building your beautiful barndominium. You e got miles to go so just take it slow.
I thought the plant you showed was Queen Anne's Lace but it might be hemlock. This is what I found: "The stems of both poison-hemlock and Queen Anne's lace are hollow, but poison-hemlock will have small purple spots all over its smooth stem and triangular leaves. Queen Anne's lace has no purple spots on its stem and is hairy." Good luck and be careful! Great work you guys.
Hi there, if you have Google App on your phone look for the camera image, take a photo of your desired topic and it will automatically lookup names of the plant for you. This applies on more or less anything even ornaments, pictures, coins and much more.. We have moved to south of France and live in an old farm house doing the same as you but not as intense.. Love watching you, keep it up.
Hello lovelies, here in Germany this plant is called meadow hogweed, it is also considered a medicinal plant, WHEN IT IS YOUNG, Young leaves and sprouts are used as wild vegetables, for larger specimens the stem can be peeled, and eaten raw, or made into compote: for older plants, please BE CAREFUL WITH SKIN TOUCH, leads to severe pain, and when exposed to sunlight, it can cause reddening of the skin, burns and allergic reactions!! Please check with the rural population, they will certainly know more about it. So now a lot of strength, perseverance in the further expansion of your houses, it is a pleasure to see you all together, I love both of you humour! Thank you very much for that. MFG EW
Wow what a difference that upper floor makes. Your face when you stood on that loose step 😂😂😂😂😂. Well done both of you on another cracking week. Getting nearer every day. Xxx
First channel I watched, not even Coffee lol Again, another bang on week with the Music, btw.. do I smell a bun in the... Just a glowing, show. Thanks, w ❤ Massachusetts!
If you have an iPhone take a picture of the plant and from your photos there will be a little symbol that looked like a star in upper right hand side tap it where it says info and it will inform you about what it is.
Great job as always love the chestnut floor. I have a small house near Serta in need of new floor so I might be in touch for some tips in August 😊 . 👍✅👌

Totally agree just from looking at images on Wikipedia - if there’s a chance of a risk then get the roots out. It’s not worth it.
Have you not got access to a plant identifier would be a good investment on your phone think they may even b3 free
Or even better ask the locals if and how they manage the plant. It´s in it´s natural area which is the Med and Europe so it´s no use to throw poison at it. Since it will just come back. Google Lens will identify plants. The active ingredient in ‘Roundup’ is ‘Glyphosate’. You will find other brands with that name.
It is indeed hemlock, be very careful handling it with bare hands the sap can get into your skin and make you extremely sick.
YOU BOTH ARE A JOY TO WATCH !
Absolutely amazing week!! Barn is coming on great!
Your fabric idea is genius! That will look great
Your sound track was great! Loved it all. You two are so fun to watch
omg what a great job badgers doing on the house barn its going to feel so good when its finished and you all have more space your a lovely couple with a beaut little family and i wish you all the luck in the world with it its so nice to see a happy family having a go much love 😘

Thank you so much! I hope so too 🤞🏼 ☺️
You guys are so fun and really seem to enjoy one another! What a fantastic job you are doing. Barndaminium is looking awesome!
Thanks so much!
Looking great! It would be lovely to leave space at the end of the mezzanine as a balcony x
I see a lovely cottage in your very near future. A great place to contemplate the evolution of the stone house.
I say NO to using "roundup" on the hemlock, as it causes cancer, and is already found in soils and water sources. I would contact knowledgeable people concerning this.❤

Woohoo! Double decker!!🎉 ❤
Cheers to the Scotters - well done !😊

Whoop! Whoop! Indeed! Well done.
What an incredible space you've created for your family Scotters. I wouldn't want to move out. Bravo people 👏
Seems like it might be a good idea to add some support posts for those primary joists that span the width of the building.
Good morning! Please put joist hangers on to better secure them. I would hate for you two to fall through the floor up there! Great progress, though! 🤗
Absolutely brilliant

It’s Hemlock. No doubt.
Queen Anne Lace and Hemlock look the same BUT "Queen Anne has hairy legs"...so fuzz on the stem. Cute way to tell and for children to learn.
Love the little toy man climbing on the pot of herbs.

What u have there is queen Anne's lace... Hemlock travels down the stock like blue bells

They still can? I was wondering about that.
