In that flashback, Macy and Thorne are both covered in soot as they talk about going to the mountains, and we know that now when they actually go there, they will once again end up covered in soot before the end of the night, but for a much more sinister reason. In fact, what will happen to Macy can be described as a "barbecue" too, but on a larger scale... And there was also a strange moment in episode 3273 before the party when Thorne kind of "painted" Macy with soot/ashes. It felt almost symbolic, because ashes are a kind of reminder of one's mortaIity, that on the night when Macy's downward spiral started, she was give this "mark of mortality" by Thorne's hands - disguised as a playful moment of passion. Just like Thorne marrying Macy was actually a death sentence in disguise.

I don't know if Season 9 is still unavailable, but by Season 10, Thorne was fooling around with Taylor and flirting with Claudia. Then, after it was confirmed that Thomas was Ridge's son, I'm guessing Thorne got himself mixed up with Brooke. How did Macy come back in the picture? I wish they'd show these seasons in order so we can better understand the trajectory.

I think it's _because_ he knows their part in the Venice scheme (I assume he does know), that he is upset that _now_ they won't get involved to help clean up the mess that they helped create in the first place. But I don't know whether to find it endearing or implausible that now Clarke cares so much about Macy. I always liked the Clarke/Macy relationship _because_ they had this antagonistic quasi stepfather/stepdaughter dynamic where they kept throwing shade at each other. But maybe underneath it they could have grown reluctantly fond of each other over the years. I guess I find it kind of touching in the same way I found it touching that Grumpy was the one who took the initiative to try to save Snow White in the end.
