If you had your notification bell on, you'd know that this video was out yesterday by accident and I quickly privated it hahahahahahah 13 of you liked the video. YA DUN CAUGHT MEH!
It's honestly crazy how much you've grown as a person, as a youtuber/videographer/editor, and as a student!! Watching you watch yourself (if that makes sense haha) is like watching a completely different and more mature person and it's so awesome to see that growth because it's what makes you the red ant you are now!!❤🐜
I got into medical school on Tuesday! Thank you for being so inspirational and honest in your videos! They really motivated me to keep studying this year and not give up with my application
"i want to go to bed at 9pm..." lol been here since you got your acceptances and I can honestly say its like watching a completely different person. We love growth.
It's crazy how much growth happens over one year of medical school. Even now, I feel like I study differently for each exam and each block despite feeling like I had it figured out in the fall. Be proud of yourself! You've been an inspiration for so many.
Girl, that og transition music is taking me BACK omg. Rachel, you have grown SO much and I honestly can't wait to see how much wiser you become in the years to come :) p.s. your reaction to adjusting your sleep schedule couldn't be more accurate lol
Hey Rachel, I just want to let you know much you've helped me get through my anxiety getting into medical school. I was casually watching med vlogs when I stumbled on yours. Coincidentally, I pieced two and two together and realized I am actually gonna be going to the same school you're at (just knew from the website/how the school looked). I am incredibly excited and happy when I found out I was accepted to my dream school but I've also developed anxiety about starting because of how difficult it is. But watching you grow and especially knowing you're in the same school I'll be at gave me so much strength. It is hard, I know that but your growth through this journey has been so amazing! I'm excited to start my journey into medical school as a red ant! Congratulations on finishing your first year!
I'm from Brazil and i really want to be a doctor. I'm studying and, when I get tired, I come here to see your videos. Have things that I can't understant cause my english is not so good, but I really love your channel!!!
I love how you always seem to be 100% comfortable in your own skin. When I first started my channel I felt so awkward in front of the camera and I didn't know how to act, but watching you gave me a lot of confidence! btw I loved this "peeling back the curtain" style video, so honest and funny!
It's funny because I remember watching this exact vlog when it came out and I just loved your energy! You've really evolved through the year! I'm a premed and your videos really solidify that I'll be okay when I finally reach med school! Thank you :')
Rachel Southard, you are such an inspiration. I have trouble being productive eight hours a day even though I have a full time job (I take breaks throughout the day to watch your videos). I'm just an IT guy, not enough of a superman to be a medical doctor, but I feel encouraged to better myself by your videos. Keep it up, you will make a great doctor.
I’m 13, and at the moment I’m just tying to get through middle school. Like the saying goes, cross that bridge when you get there. The thing is, I like to plan ahead and have full control over where I’m going. I know by now that’s not how life goes, it’ll just throw you into a complete 180 at the drop of a hat, no warning. I do know that I want to go to medical school, I don’t know what exactly I want to achieve while I’m there. There are so many choices and things that I could go into. I guess I really have no reason to worry about this at such an early age but I find being prepared is very comforting. I just finished watching both videos on how school is going for you and I like how realistic you are about everything. You don’t hide the fact that it’s dead stressful and everything is all wacky. I find it very inspiring and if one day I’m going through the same hurtles I’ll know that everything will be okay as long as I don’t give up :)
I thought I was the only one who thought that way, I totally understand you and sometimes it concerns me how much I think and try to plan my future to the minimum detail... I'm just 15 but I'm already thinking about college and how my house is gonna be, what college do I wanna get into, where am I gonna work... Sometimes I'm just like "OK I really need to calm my head down lol". I totally get your point!! 🤣
This was so cute and amazing. I remember last year when you posted that video and how I could relate to you back in my first year. What made me cry over the reacting video is because I’m happy, it’s like I saw the changes and how you became a strong person. I feel so happy for you and for how far you’ve gone 🌸 Keep going, keep fighting ✊
I feel like I’m being dragged through the mud every day since I got into med school I looked at a before and after pic after 2 years of med school. I aged 10 years lol ☠️☠️☠️☠️ Learning to take care of patients and can’t take care of ourselves 💯
WoW its great to see that. For me I just finished medical school ( 6 years) and starting the internship year . There are times you will find yourself shattered and want to quit and just stop but it's ok you need to remember your goals your origin. stand up and fight back eventually you will be there.
This video is so relatable! ❤️ Just finished my first year of med school too. Everything from the way I study to what I thought was “hard” to reminiscing on how often I used to go to the gym! Lol 😂
As I am wrapping up 5 years of school, working hard has become a part of who I am now. I sometimes forget to me kind to myself tho, but you have reminded me time and time again that that is also an important part of it all. And so now I am telling you this: Be kind to your self Rachel. You are beautiful, even after 1 year of medical school, and your hair will grow back! U are a red ant after all! I can't wait to continue on this journey with you! PS: I LOVE your shirt!
That video actually scares my 6 year dream out of me😂😂 i even want to be a cardiologist, LABELED AS THE HARDEST AND STRESSFUL FIELD. Yelp... Im still going to do it😂😂
Hi rewatching this after my first new nurse interview to relax. You should do more of these! I would have like to watch my first week and seeing how much I changed and grown. I would be embarrassed , but more proud than anything.
I followed your channel because I started pharmacy school the same time you were starting med school, and everything you said in this video is so true. Gone are the days of going to bed before 12, having a meal plan diet, working out, having high melanin levels, etc. (for now). But if it’s what it takes, it’s what it takes. If it was easy everybody would do it. I can’t attest to everything you said in this video to be true! First semester is always the worse once you get into that good flow state :)
As a Western U DO 2024 I would love to see a "What I Wish I Knew!" Side note: didn't realize you were going to my future school until I creeped on your youtube page. Made me less nervous. So thanks
I'm a first year student in Physician Assistant School (almost done with our first year, crazy!), but I love watching your videos, makes me feel a little less alone in the world. Not to mention you give so many helpful tips and tricks and I can't wait to see how you continue to progress!
Hey just wanna say because of you i started becoming more productive. I was a complete slack with no self control. Thank you. Also don't try to compare too much of your looks to your younger self. You're still beautiful as ever. You probably looked a lot younger because you have a much better camera and lighting which highlights your details 😄. That can sometimes look a lot of a matured you.
You have no idea how much your videos have helped! Im currently in the process of applying for the 2021 cycle, and I am keeping these notes, and tips locked down for when I get in! Thank you for being a wonderful light! You are going to be an amazing doctor!! 🥰❤🙏🏽 Stay blessed!!
Yo, I just subscribed to your channel and as a current medical student I can sooooooo relate to this video and obviously with you. Im not exaggerating, you lose track of time, you age, stress, anxiety and fear become your new best friends and its amazing to see that, we dont have to be in the same school to go through the same bullsh*t. Keep up everyday with your motivation, you are greater than your fears, anxiety and stress. Thanks for this video and subscribing here its totally worth it!!
I am about to finish my didactic year of PA school and at the beginning, I would stay up really late to study and wake up early to study... I quickly learned that IS NOT for me, I also learned that sacrificing sleep was counterproductive. I started to end my studying around 9:30pm-10:00pm and would try to be asleep by 10:30pm and wake up by 6am I also learned that it is OKAY to not know everything, it is impossible to know everything... You can only do your best and that is okay
Hi Rachel! I have been loving watching your vlogs this year! I will start pharmacy school in the fall, so I've really enjoyed seeing your study methods! Also you hair still looks great btw!
It's so awesome to see how much you've grown over your first year of medical school!! It makes me so happy to watch your videos bc it really makes me realize that I'm not the only one feeling the rush of different emotions :) I love your content and you're one of my favorite youtubers!
Honorable mentions “I just went through GI I know everything” “She’s still going to the gym early, no” “If I didn’t become a physician it’s because I died” “I ended up going to bed at 11 :30... Oh no boohoo”
Next year I’m starting med school and I gotta admit I’m a little terrified about it and very excited at the same time. Your videos have shown me that effort gives the best results and that has inspired me a lot. Very glad I found your channel Rachel! Keep it up, I’m convinced you’ll be an amazing professional.
I usually get bored of watching RUclips videos but I NEVER get bored of yours 🥺. Your personality is amazing and you’re adorable. My favorite channel, your videos are so inspiring
It's my first time posting a comment - I am a friend of Teresa's and whenever I see her in your videos, I always smile! Congrats on finishing your first year of med school!
you are the best! seeing you go through this journey and how much you evolved to handle the stress and workload of med school gives me courage to still apply. I’ve let nerves about applying and the stories of how difficult it is get the best of me, but you make me believe that I can! thank you for always showing the raw and hard moments while still preserving and giving advice to us pre-meds. love you! ❤️
I really love love watching your videos! I’ve always wanted to be a dermatologist, and there are times people are like, “dermatology is competitive specialty,” and that it self really discourages me. When I’m Often going to google to see if being a nurse practitioner is equivalent, but nah I’m determined to get there, by any means. You and my parents always encourage me!
I just started med school this year and since I can remember all I’ve ever wanted is to be a doctor. I thought I was like really intense because like you I’ve never imagined myself as something else which really freaks me out. After watching this I really feel much better knowing I’m not the only one who feels this is the right path even though it’s the only path I would choose. Med school is so overwhelming (even though where I live it’s so different from US) and watching your videos has made me realize it’s okay to break sometimes just as long as I stand up again. Thanksss Rachel❤️
We do flipped classroom too (going to Occupational therapy school) BUT, we don’t have any lectures (almost), instead we get told what to read on beforehand and then we have lessons where we get paired in groups and work with the material we read and pray to god that we/or someone in the group has got it right 😅 i think flipped Classroom is great for some subjects but work less for some. But my big tip for others doing the flipped classroom is to find a couple of people in the class that you like and/or are at the same study-level with and do meeting at zoom or school now and then and catch up on what’s hard and discuss it til you get it. I also find that being the best method of remembering what you are supposed to learn - discussing it.
These reactions are so relatable. 😂💕 I'm going to start my final year in medical college in India soon and everytime I think back to what I was like in my first year, this is exactly how I feel. Also, the hair loss problem is too real 😭
I watch RUclips videos and any videos I need to watch for school on 2x speed now because the normal speed feels like slow motion haha. started doing it bc of u, it’s a big time saver!!
I'm so glad you are being realistic on your routine. I'm 30, a teacher and want to change careers but so afraid of it. Medicine has always interested me but I never had enough income. Now I do but I don't have the guts
Dang you’ve really come a long way. Been here since your first week! Even though I’m a student pharmacist you’ve been so inspiring and influenced my study habits; just finished my first year as well. Can’t wait for the day we both become full time professionals. Keep soaring ❤️
I was dying when all Rachel said after was “that was...cute” 😂 Love you Rachel! You’ve grown so much over the course of the year! Also I realized I may have been an OG but didn’t know because I saw many of your videos with the older audio before and I didn’t even realize you didn’t use it anymore 😅 Keep doing what you’re doing! God bless! 😊❤️
Ayeeee now in your second year and next year you start rotations!!!!! It’s really fun working at the hospital and just a relief since you change the scenery after sitting in the same class lectures for a couple of years. Really makes you feel more of a doctor and made me feel proud and nervous 😂
Thank you so much for your videos Rachel!!! Whenever I'm feeling down n on a low ur videos always inspire me to go and push my limits! Thank you so much for always working hard! I'm starting medicine this October and I'm going to work hard like u 😄😘. Lots of love!!!
I'm finishing up my third year of medical school right now, it gets SO. MUCH. BETTER. in third year, and I've heard it's even better in fourth year. To me, first year was the worst (behind Step 1 dedicated lol) Congrats on getting that done!
I'm from the UK so we go to medical school at 18 and there are definitely a lot of positives to it and I really never thought about the negative, I was sort of it as I get to do what I really want to do without having to waste 3 years on something I'm not particularly interested in but looking at these videos and just seeing the level of commitment that goes into it and obviously you've already gone to another degree, learned to study and be an adult where as I want to go at 18 and just out of High School and expected to just do it
If you had your notification bell on, you'd know that this video was out yesterday by accident and I quickly privated it hahahahahahah 13 of you liked the video. YA DUN CAUGHT MEH!

“If I didn’t become a physician, it’s because I died”. lol what a mood😂
she is SERIOUS!
This is a way better way to say it than what I have said about this goal. Which was, if I don't make it...lol
lol died of heart attack from the stress yes lol
I have the same mentality but I did almost die. Lyme disease.
Dude, basically my mood. I've got a long way to go before even applying though.
"Don't try to do the most. Just do your best" yes yes YES. This is something i truly struggle with and it's a nice reminder.
I’m happy it resonates with you ☺️
I remember when you said "I want to go to bed at 9pm" and I was like oop

It's crazy how much growth happens over one year of medical school. Even now, I feel like I study differently for each exam and each block despite feeling like I had it figured out in the fall. Be proud of yourself! You've been an inspiration for so many.
LOL when she throws the STEP 1 book on the bed and says "I'm sorry" 😂 😂

ill have it make a special appearance hehe
I found you on YT during your first week of med school so it’s literally crazy to rewatch that video and seeing your reaction.

I really appreciate your videos. They are so realistic on how medical school is going to be.
So amazing to see your growth as a young woman, a medical student as well as a youtuber! Amazing job Rachel!
I just finished watching your first day of med school & was hit with so much discourage but after seeing this video my courage has been refilled!
can we all just agree that rachel is the cutest med student ever?
You can do it if you want to!
Hey Rachel! Thanks for being an awesome role model! :-) its always so fun watching your blogs!
Thank you Savanna. So sweet of you
Dang you’ve really come a long way. Been here since your first week! Even though I’m a student pharmacist you’ve been so inspiring and influenced my study habits; just finished my first year as well. Can’t wait for the day we both become full time professionals. Keep soaring ❤️
wow! Thanks for being an OG! GO US!!!
last week I went back and watched all those old vids it's so funny to see you reacting to them. You've come a long way!!
who else is terrified yet excited to hopefully go to med school :)
A crazy creative and informative video... at the SAME TIME, we have to stan.
God bless! 😊❤️
Girl your first couple of seconds of your reaction was priceless . Don't worry you are still gorgeous. GET IT!!!
I just finished my first year of grad school! So happy to have had your videos along the way
Ayeeee now in your second year and next year you start rotations!!!!! It’s really fun working at the hospital and just a relief since you change the scenery after sitting in the same class lectures for a couple of years. Really makes you feel more of a doctor and made me feel proud and nervous 😂
I’m in my third year now ☺️ this video was made a while ago
I wish I had seen it before my first day at med school it's so relatable now that I think back!👍
the growth of your beautiful plant by your window as well 🥺❤️❤️
I always try watching your videos without questioning how you have such clear skin but agh I can’t 😍😍
Love you Rachel!
So proud of you and how far you’ve come.
Thank you so much for your videos Rachel!!! Whenever I'm feeling down n on a low ur videos always inspire me to go and push my limits! Thank you so much for always working hard! I'm starting medicine this October and I'm going to work hard like u 😄😘. Lots of love!!!
You are blessed with cheekbones to the high heavens 🙌🙌🙌
hahahah omg love you
I'm finishing up my third year of medical school right now, it gets SO. MUCH. BETTER. in third year, and I've heard it's even better in fourth year. To me, first year was the worst (behind Step 1 dedicated lol) Congrats on getting that done!
I'm from the UK so we go to medical school at 18 and there are definitely a lot of positives to it and I really never thought about the negative, I was sort of it as I get to do what I really want to do without having to waste 3 years on something I'm not particularly interested in but looking at these videos and just seeing the level of commitment that goes into it and obviously you've already gone to another degree, learned to study and be an adult where as I want to go at 18 and just out of High School and expected to just do it
Med school is tough but it's so worth it in the end! Weird how I never enjoyed placements but now love my job!
