Pass rushers are more important than wr. Qbs, LT and pass rushers are above everybody else.
I’d throw in a high end lock down corner as well to that list. Wiping out one wr for a game helps the pass rush immensely as well. Niners have been living off their pass rush for a long time, but I’m glad they are finally addressing the DB room. Sounds like this is gonna be the best secondary the Niners have had in a while
So they "force" Aiyuk to play out his contract while evaluating if Pearsall et al can fill his shoes. Otherwise he can negotiate again next year, get tagged next year, get traded next year, He hasn't got the leverage, and it is true that WR are easier to replace than Bosa or Purdy.
Yeah, but we have a good locker room and team. No drama. This would be a mess. Either sign him or trade him. That's about it. He's going to sit out the first 6 games for sure. I think if he holds out longer than 6 games he loses a year. So it will be like he's on his 5th year option next year and still be under contract...rinse and repeat..lol

One thing to consider is California is a high tax state. Another thing to consider is that Santa Clara is expensive as hell. Another thing to consider is that every WR contract will be higher than the last one so he wants something in line with the top guys cause in 1-2 years his contract will look like a steal.

49ets have been inside their Superbowl window for what...4-5 yrs now? BA got used hardly. Jennings was used more in clutch situations. No doubt BA helps in in the regular season with an increasing 1,000+ seasons. But he doesn't get used in the post season. And you have to fault Kyle for that. We don't use Kittle in the post season. Ever since his catch against the Saints. That catch and run alone and not giving your playmakers the ball in big game time I literally have no idea.

Let him find another team willing to pay him even half of what he thinks he is worth and I do not believe he will be able to do it. He is going to want the 140 million over four years Minnesota is paying their WR. Now that is insane. Their owner has chit for brains. I would never offer any player that kind of money, but I would be willing to pay 15 million a year plus bonuses for exceptionable play, that could earn a 5 year player up to 25 million a year, but that is it. Very few would earn that and very few would get the base of 15 million after their first contract is up. What some owners are paying their players is insane.

I'm not so certain your buddy, Grant Cohn, is correct in thinking AIyuk would've taken $26mil if they offered it to him last year. His agent may have been advising him for some time that the receiver market was only going higher and to wait it out. Aiyuk may have been dead set on holding out for a lot longer than most of you guys assume.
Anyhow, this does make it look like the 9ers front office hasn't learned how to adapt their approach.

Deebo, Bosa and Kittle all earned their contracts. They were pivotal in the 9ers success. Game breakers, playmakers, game changers and even the best at their position or impossible to replace. He's following their playbook but has never been what they were so he has unrealistic expectations. Ayuik is not irreplaceable as Larry said. He is not pivotal and he is not the best at what he does. I just think the best thing to do is move on from him via trade but get an impact player. A pick does nothing for us this year.
At this point I hope Aiyuk goes somewhere else, gets the targets he wants, and smokes the stupid niners every time he gets a chance.

The 49ers waited too long. Months ago BA would be sprinting to the table to sign a $26 million per year deal. Now he wants $30 million. All this $$ for these WRs is insane.
His agent refused to sign until all wr signed. Niners could not have signed him early even if they wanted too. This whole thinge backfired on both sides as neither side thought the wr market would blow up this much.
Aiyuk is still under contract, make him play next season.. End of story..

id say aiyuk is replacable for his WR skills, but he is by far one of the best WR at blocking and that is what makes him so valuable in our offense. I can see him getting replaced for standard WR stuff like catching/route running/YAC, but his blocking skills as a WR are very underrated in our run heavy system. Hes great at blocking, but you dont pay a WR 32m a year just to block lol
And if the 49ers had a better O-line, we wouldn’t need WRs to block!

@@tomkuntz8055 While their TE, Kittle had to block for the entire duration of the play, in nearly all their offensive plays, in Super Bowl LVIII because their O-line couldn't even stop the Chiefs 4-man pass rush.
Trade him. Aiyuk was a mid level receiver until Brock became our QB. The Niners can elevate Pearsall especially on a rookie contract.
I think purdy's contract will look something like 6 years $390mm, with $180mm signing bonus spread over the 6 year contract and 4 void years. This allows for 3 additionnal guaranteed bonus years before years 5 and 6 having about $50mm non guaranteed each. Of course after year 4 purdy's contract would be up for a restructure. Basically the cap hit for pudy for the next 4 years would be like $18mm, $28mm, $34mm, and $39mm then restructure to keep purdy's cap hit under $45mm. This gives purdy $65mm/year and minimizes his cap hit for the next 4 years at least.
As far as BA goes. As much as the 49ers like to play hold out. I have to wonder of the reason they weren't able to sign BA while his price was cheap, is because BA's proce was never cheap. Who's to say that the 49ers started at $26mm but BA said, nah, I'm good, let's see how the market changes. We like to think that it's the team who has the job to sign BA, but in truth it's a 5p/50 responsibility and there's nothing the team can do to force BA to sign a contract early if he thinks the market will increase his price tag by holding out. It's a selfish move, especially if the offer was made by the team in good faith, but from a negotiating perspective, it's just good business. Something his agent would have pushed hard onto him.
My final thought is that with the little drama stunts, I think for myself, I'm done with BA. He's a fun player, works well with Purdy, but we don't need a diva like him causing drama for the team. Trade his gime personality, get a good piece or two and draft pick and move on. Send him to the raiders. Let him see us get that ring this year while he wallows in LV with his $$ buhbye
We’re not balking at $30 million a year. The guaranteed money is the issue just like it was with Buckner. If BA wanted a ST Brown contact, he’d be signed. But I bet he wants like $60 million or more guaranteed, and that’s the issue

Deebo’s injury coincided with Trent Williams’s injury. With Trent out, the Niners couldn’t run. Teams were covering Aiyuk and the other receivers really tight since the Niners couldn’t run the ball. That’s why the Niners struggles, because their most important player was out with injury at the same time as Deebo’s injury. Deebo can’t beat man coverage.
You mention the top 25 paid wr and how only 4 of them have ever won a sb. Well Brock Purdy contract is coming up and the 9ers have to pay him top 10 money undoubtedly. Well of the top 10 paid qb only 1 has ever won a sb. Just a little perspective

Assume, not going to force play on 5th yr. Don't want distraction in locker room. That's why traded, Trey. Either way, BA will be distraction if not paid or working in 5th yr option. True, a lot of receivers in draft even, some in UFAs. Bosa deal took time. Assume it would take time. Both side is jocking for positions. Salary cap might force rebuilding next yr. Need more younger players who are better.
