If you have to troubleshoot problems on your network or if you want to enable traffic control on your Wireless router. It can be useful to know the IP address that a device has been assigned.
So in this video we demonstrate one way too quickly discover the IP address your Chromebook as been assigned.

How DO you change it !!!?? And to WHAT numbers ??!
To change your IP address you simply need to:
1. Open, Settings - Network and select the network connection type your Chromebook is currently using, for example WiFi.
2. You then need to select the connection under Known Networks.
3. If you scroll through this list of options you will find a heading called Network.
4. Toggle the option in Network called "Configure IP address automatically" to off
5. Manually enter the network details you want your Chromebook to use. ie IP address, Subnet mask etc
However in most instances you should not need to change the IP address being used by your Chromebook. That is unless you have a problem with the network's DHCP server and you can't access the internet, or you need to use a specific IP address in order to connect (administratively) to a device on your network. For example to reconfigure a network switch.
In those scenarios you will need prior knowledge of the IP address range that you need to use, this will include the subnet mask and gateway addresses. Which is why it's useful to be able to see what IP address your Chromebook is currently using. However in most instances home networks will use IP addresses in the 192.168 range, while corporate networks will use IP addresses in the 10. range. Finally you need to be careful when manually assigning your computer with an IP address, as using an IP address that is already being used by another device will cause problems for your computer and that device.

A device on your home network may have been compromised which it then being used to send spam emails from you IP address. So it might be worth isolating that device. I would recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider for advice.

The address you can see is a private non internet facing IP address used by an internal network. So it will be of very limited use for anyone trying to connect to my computer, unless their computer is on same private network.
