Yeah, but at least she has Lesbian aunts. Finally some representation in kid's toys. It was a big risk. I'm so happy that kids are finally learning about different types of families and learning that- if they are a part of the LGBTQ+ Community- it's okay. Now they have someone to look up to from a thing they like. I wish I had that as a kid, man.

I’m a previous AG employee, and they will never make a doll who is a doctor because all the story lines follow things that would be realistic for a child. 11 year olds aren’t practicing medicine. Hope that helps!
They plan the dolls in advance so COVID hadn't happened by the time she was planned.

That would be so awesome to have different ethnicity, religions, genders and such. I think that would be so cool I just started collecting american girl dolls, my dolls names are Lindsey, Blair and Alyssa. All three are not girl of the years I just named them those names cause I like those names. But I would love to have dolls from different cultures. I hope some day they do make an Asian doll. It defeats the purpose of the "just like you" dolls if they can't actually look like everyone. These dolls should be making us feel beautiful in our own skin I just wish they had different kinds and not all the same year after year.

I understand making an Australian girl for this year, but I wish and hope that this company will also bring attention to Aboriginal populations in Australia. These people have been respecting and fighting for their land for longer than people of European decent. I hope this can be reflected soon. Please let's make a doll of Australia's aboriginal population.

this is just me but I was expecting it to be a little black doll after everything that's been happening
I would love that too! But the dolls are planned 2-3 years in advance which is great because they have time to make everything accurate! Kira’s aunts are lesbian and that almost exactly lines up with when Australia passed the marriage equality act! Kira is an environmentalist and AG partnered with WIRES an Australian charity that helps with bushfire and drought relief! Hopefully a BLM doll in 2022-2023!!

My question is what is Kira's story about? What is her family like? Is she supposed to be from the current time period? (Lame) and who or what is her main antagonist?
I'm a purist, when I was a child there were 6 American Girls: Felicity, Kirsten, Abby, Samantha, and Molly, and later Josefina.
All girl of the years are from current times. They still have the historical line, which is worth checking out imo.
Girls of the year are from the same time as us and her story is helping animals in Australia
They still have a historical doll line which currently ranges from 1726-1986

So...4 years of planning to come up with a blonde white doll? Creativity at it's best! I'm not an AG collector, I don't even own one of the dolls, (Can't justify the price tag, among other reasons), but I guess I'm a doll enthusiast? Disappointing. Hope next years doll is diverse, or even biracial, like me and other people! :) Edit: I hope they're doing the smart thing and at least donating a portion of the proceeds to those effected by the Australian fires. That would be the wise thing to do. I suppose we'll see. Edit: I'm aware that there have been dolls of color in the past, but I also counted and it was only 4 dolls out of about 16 over the years that were like this. That is just unacceptable, I don't care what company you're running or how much money you make. It might be a fruitless endeavor, but it's one of my dreams to make a company that has race inclusive dolls of all types. Not only to compete with Mattel's AG, but to fill a want. Don't have the money to yet, but it would be nice.

Yes the diversity is very disappointing, but they are donating some money to the WIRES foundation which helps animals in need. Her story is also about curing the Australian wildfires and environmental problems, so yes they are donating and helping to spread the word around about global warming and fires, but I do strongly agree the diversity is missing and we need some more creativity instead of reusing dolls they have already sold.
There was Gabriella but she was reused. A Ag work must have found truly me 46 on a website or at the dump.
