    How does accommodation work in a degree apprenticeship are you still part of the uni or separate.

    • @Illack
      @Illack  6 месяцев назад +1

      You’re not considered a full time student so most likely have to find private accommodation (rent a flat/share house) but you could try move into university accommodation, I think the university would allow it but you’d have to pay from your salary at company + council tax probably too

    I'm currently studying cs. are all of your days this flexible? like how does a typical work day break down

    • @Illack
      @Illack  8 месяцев назад

      I’d say it depends… If you have sprint ceremonies/meetings/big workload you might be desk locked because you only have a few hours outside of those meetings to get work done. On this day of course, I had 2 v short meetings and worked later into the day, so you have to make it work if you want to take a couple breaks👍🏾

    What was the application process like ? and any tips for aspiring apprentices ?How do you balance this with school and social life? (P.s : I'm an A level student wanting to do software degree apprenticeship)

    • @Illack
      @Illack  7 месяцев назад +6

      Application process is:
      1. CV & Cover Letter
      2. Online Tests (for some employers)
      3. Assessment Centre (Interview with your hiring line manager)
      4. Job Offer
      My tips would be:
      1. start learning about the industry if you haven't already (I had no background but some people have A Level CompSci etc.). Not just programming but Agile methodology, solution design, business operations.
      2. Be yourself
      3. Interview them as well because you're not there begging for a job, if you're being interviewed they clearly want you so try and make them impress you as well. Ask questions that you actually care about!
      4. Apply to loads, Degree Apprenticeships are getting so busy now so reckon competition is just going up and up.
      On work life balance:
      I'd say just know your ability; I'm the type of person who does things early and intense. As soon as we have a uni week, I spend the next 1-2 weeks just doing work all evenings + gym/football/youtube/facetime + weekends free to do whatever, but get my assignment done and submitted. Then relax for the next 2-5 weeks before next uni week... for me that works, but for others it wouldn't. Keep in mind if you fail uni -. you get fired, and if you don't give a good impression at work regardless of uni -> you may not get a job at the end... so if you're dying to socialise 24/7 just make sure you've done at least 30min-2hr of work EVERY DAY before/after work depending on how much you know about the particular topic. Keep in mind I had no programming background; didn't even know what ram was, how networks worked, or what an IDE was... so if you're very knowledgeable you'll probably be able to get away with less.

    What a levels are needed is maths without computer science sufficient? If you already have programming experience before.

    • @Illack
      @Illack  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hi bro, it depends on programme & company. Most software engineering degree apprenticeships that I applied to asked for BBC or above in 3 A-Levels including Maths. Saying that though, on the actual programme I’m on, there is a wide range of grades from people. Some A* and some C/D students.
      I’d say B is more than enough in most (80-90% maybe) cases

      @@osmani3481 The salary starts at £25k and finishes at £38k at my company, once you qualify you’d go into a junior role similar wage (£38-£40+k), but some students have secured £50-65k roles as seniors or in other companies which pay more👍🏾 from gradcracker most companies are paying £20k starting (I’ve just seen that Amazon don’t show they’re salary so maybe they offer more as a starting apprentice🤔)

      Grades do matter so check each application, as entry requirements do differ. I’ve seen most degree apprenticeships take B/Cs.

      The above link states you be accepted for a degree apprenticeship if you have a qualification of: BTEC/NVQ/A-level. So it looks like you’ve got nothing to worry about. If you’re confused, just email/ring recruitment team which may be linked on job listing.
