  • Replacing Tilt limit switch on 2012 Suzuki 115DF four stroke outboard motor. Motor would occasionally tilt down but not tilt up. Apologies.... I am neither a mechanic nor a videographer. Hopefully this will still help someone!

Thanks good job. I replaced the relay which was not the problem. It’s the limit switch good video mines a 2007. This just happened a week ago thanks again.

I believe this is a common issue with these newer Suzuki outboards. I am surprised there’s not more videos or information out there regarding this. Great video.

That safety level switch is in a place where it will always get corroded so just after the connection which is inside cover cut the two wires and put them together and problem solved.

forgive me for asking but at the beginning of the video the trim/tilt motor operates which would indicate the switch is in the close position, the trim motor stops too early which would indicate the cam is in the wrong position and hit the switch too early, this is easily adjustable. anyways thanks for the video. I am in the middle of rebuilding twin 150's and was wondering about the cam position once I put the swivel tubes back to re-attach the engines to the brackets. Mine are 2006 model and the bushes on the swivel tube are warned out giving a lot of play in the engine tilt. If it gives me issues I will just put a shunt on the switch as it is not really necessary. Tilt mechanism have been running without for years and the motor has a pressure relief valve so you can run to mechanical stop without creating any damages. Thanks and good luck

Hi! The issue that I was having was that the T/T switch was intermittent in operation. Sometimes the contacts would open/close correctly, and sometimes not. I have my limits set so that I don't get too close to mangling the controls when the motor is trimmed up.

Ha just listened again and the beginning is the aftermath, that makes sense now. P.S watch your port / stbd, it does not change when looking aft

LoL. Yes, I have a tendency to get turned around when I am trying to talk / work / figure out what the heck I am doing :-)

When it wasn’t working from the remote handle, did it work from the motor switch? Mine works fine from the motor but nothing from the remote for the up position.

In my instance, it did not. I found this problem when I took it to the lake one day. I still had it on the trailer, and I could not lift the motor off of the transom saver. Neither the throttle handle switch nor the cowling switch allowed it to operate. You might be able to locate the three wires from the throttle handle, and with a ohm meter figure out if the problem is the switch or the wiring. Good luck!

Great video! But how do you do the fine adjustment of the upper limit? My DF140 hits the upper limit, then cuts out too soon and I can't get the trailer lock in to position... or when in the water, the skeg won't clear the water level

Sorry... I don't keep an eye on the comments on this video. For my motor, I rotate a bushing which has a cam stop on it which controls the position of the motor. Your bushing may be in the wrong position, or there may be crap on it perhaps?

Hi Gavin, I came here for the same reason, my 2004 DF140 trims up 90% of the way but not ALL the way, I have checked the fluid level is ok, next thing is the limit switch position. hope you got sorted
