I find it fascinating, that Hephaestus created an acquisition class machine, but also designed it to be highly capable of defending itself against hunters, with combat based programming. It shows that despite his malicious code, he still follows his advanced programming of creating machines to serve a function on earth.
The Fireclaw was actually classified as a combat class machine in Frozen Wilds. Forbidden West changed its designation (and did the same thing with the Frostclaw).
Awesome video the fireclaw has and will alway remain one of my most favorite machines. I remember when i did the frozen wilds for the first time and learned to dread the music of its younger brother the frostclaw, but when i saw its firey brother swing down from the volcanic lava to defend hephaestus in the core i feel in love with its design and constant aggressive state making me really feel like i was the one being hunted and not the other way around. I love forbidden west its funny how of the few issues i have with the game on a non technical level most of them surround the fireclaw. One i wish it was just as relentless as it was in HZD thet toned it down a bit and i liked the challenge of the cat and mouse game i played with them. My second is WHY OH WHY did they have to change out its banger unique soundtrack to a albeit decent generic one that it shares with a few other large machines, like the thunderjaw and stormbird in HZD. The soundtrack solidified all my fears of this machine and are IMO apart of its identity idk it might just be mr but the og fireclaw them was literal 🔥. (Also i glad to see you pit the overridden fireclaw against an apex as you mentioned the fight is always super close which is why i said it was the most fair way to compare two different machines)
It did seem much different encountering them in Forbidden West. Even after defeating the first one in the Frozen Wilds story, each subsequent Fireclaw was still terrifying to encounter. I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks they were toned down a bit. Maybe to make the game more accessible?
One simple fact that he is weak to frost makes him way easier than an apex thunderjaw. He is easier to dodge also. Great video! Love his design a lot anyway. Apex predators on arena is still the most difficult challenge in the game
Glad you like the video! Have you been able to keep a Fireclaws in the brittle state? They seem to negate the state much more quickly than other machines
@@unknown_2552 Yes it can suddenly negate the brittle state but if you're fast enough you can freeze it again and its ability to cancel the brittle state has a long "cooldown"
I've got a great way to farm sac webbing! I find the fireclaw the hardest mechine. Plus, I ONLY get apex versions (playing on hard). My current end game farm method involves a fully upgraded Sun Sourge and Blastforge with close range damage coils. I'm also wearing a +2 silent movement armor via a coil. You could probably use any bolt blaster but you need a bow that can freeze in one volley and the +2 silent movement. The strategy is simple. Run up DIRECTLY behind the fireclaw, freeze it then sustained burst onto to glowblast canisters on its bum. As soon as the sustained burst runs out, gtfo as quickly as you can and hide like a child behind some trees. Wait till the fireclaw goes back into a yellow state, then rinse and repeat. With fully upgraded gear, I can do it with just under 2 volleys. The +2 silent movement allows you to get almost directly behind the fireclaw without alerting it. I end up using 2 advanced frost arrows and about 100 advanced bolts so not super cheap but it's very safe if done correctly and relatively quick. Happy hunting!
I love the video. I love the design and hate fighting it too, especially given the terrain yoh have to fight it on. I think that the Slaughterspine woul win because of the immense capacity to dish damage. Like stuff such as the plasma breath or the plasma projectiles from the spines deal an absurd amount of damage
I remember first time playing frozen wilds on ultra hard and I was stuck on that fireclaw final boss for a really long time.. he basically one or two shot me constantly so on the attempt I killed him I basically had to play flawless. I’ve yet to fight one in forbidden west though.

Yes this is fair. You can see them produce material when they are not trying to destroy planets. Also they have those large sacs filled with blaze. I think they produce blaze to transport or use in the fight.

Hephaestus doesn't want to "destroy humanity". His sole intent is ensuring the terraforming is not interrupted by humans. That's why he started creating combat machines and no "human-hunting machines". If so, he would very well be able to destroy humanity sending machines to effectively look for them.
