  • In this video, we’ll discuss what the bystander effect is, why it happens, and how we can combat it when it comes time to help someone in need.
    Bystander Effect (or Bystander Nonintervention): A phenomenon in which a witness or bystander does not volunteer to help a victim or person in distress and instead simply observes what is happening.
    The Helping Paradox: The more people around, the less likely it is that someone will help.
    Pluralistic Ignorance: The error of assuming that no one in a group perceives things as we do.
    Diffusion of Responsibility: A reduction in feelings of personal responsibility in the presence of others.
