A NEW key Leatt design differentiator I should have talked more about is Leatt's BraceOn neck brace front and rear fitting system shown at 2:15 min. This unique design allows over and under Jersey fitting with a Leatt Neck Brace but most importantly it ensures the neck brace is secured flush onto the body protection at two different points. Leatt recommends to use the Flipfit functions when using the neck brace and NOT to insert it into the slots. The fitment is better with the Flipfit. The neck brace fits firmly on top of these two slots located in the front and rear of the Leatt 5.5 body protector so in the case of impact no unnecessary forces are applied to the brace. This ensures the brace maintains alignment and proper position for the upmost protection. To flip the panels, on the front, put some pressure on the plate and it will pop down. For the back, remove the padding under the plate where the Thoracic would rest and put pressure on the plate there and it will also pop down. There are two straps on the side of the shoulders on the Leatt 5.5 body protection that help maintain Neck brace stability and positioning as well. In the future I'll look at providing a video that demonstrates how the Leatt 5.5 body protection is paired with the low profile Leatt GPX 6.5 Carbon neck brace and discuss the fitment, adjustment and show you how it works and review how we feel about it after riding and testing the entire Leatt protective system.
This weekend I had the opportunity to test all of the gear in a high speed over the handle bars crash that could easily caused serious shoulder and body injury. If I wasn't wearing Leatt I'm sure I would of been injured badly. The impact I took to my right shoulder after flying over the bars was significant and at high speed. If I was wearing my previous gear I'm not sure everything would of stayed in place during the crash to protect the key area that I contacted. I.e shoulder and elbows. Thank you Leatt for keeping me safe and healthy!
Absolutely great video! I’m 42 and about to get into riding again. I think you made my mind up on this chest protector. I have to work on mondays and Need to try and eliminate as many injuries as possible. Take care!

Hey, been a while since I've caught any of your vids. You do a great job of geting the facts out and giving sound reasoning for what lead you to make the choices.. I heard the reference to the flopy dangles too🤣🤣🤣 The riding jacket I have ,the pads always seem to be in the wrong spot so i was looking for somthing to wear underneath that would hold the pads where they belong. And remove the jacket pads.. Afraid a Klim jacket may be the same and create the above mentioned 🤣🤣🤣 Looks like Leiat might be a winner. Thanks for the review

Thanks for the review. That is the protector I want but am worried about the fit of the neck brace. I have an Alpinestar Bionic neck brace. Do you know if the AStar neck brace will fit in that Leatt protector? Thanks
I just bought the Leatt 5.5 body protector from Revzilla. It looks similar yet different. I suppose it's an all-in-one of all the separate pieces. The elbows are attached with zips and have hard plastic shells. I'm pretty confident of the protection for the chest and back. Less so about the shoulders and elbows. I may wear additional soft armour under those spots in a compression suit. Or just remove the shoulders and elbows entirely. I'm not sure if the shoulders are removable. Are yours removable?
Really good review, and editing work! I'm in the market for new protection as well and was also looking at the Leatt 5.5 as I like the rib protection. I just picked up a Klim tactical shirt with poron protection but it's a little hot and I feel vulnerable in the rib area. I've tried on the 5.5 and like it, but what about hydration pack over it? will that start to be restrictive?
Hey thank you, I've been using it with a USWE large backpack with integrated hydration and it works fantastic. The rib protection is the best I've see out of all of the armors. Most are CE level 1 not 2 and dont cover as much area and considering I need to hit the treadmill more that's needed. Thanks for watching, Wadz
Will the atlas neck brace work with the 5.5 shoulder pad dose it have better rib protection then the a10 alpine stars my rib are on bad shape looking for better protection
Hi Eric, a few reasons. Body suits I find trap more heat and running hot is something I do really easily so keeping cool is important and not easy with all this gear in a jacket/suit. The elbows don't always fit like I'd like them to. Some people have long arms, shorter arms so the design doesn't always fit the way I'd like. Also the elbow pads are superior when you purchase them separately in my opinion.
How good does the jacket protect the lower back and tailbone? The last one is not that important, since I don't have a tial anymore, but the lower back is the difference between wheelchair or walking
The back of protector is impact CE approval, CE EN 1621-2, Level 2 and comes down about 4 inches shy of waist approximately but I also wear the Leatt CE kidney belt which offers coverage and protection. Hope this helps.
I’m super close to pulling the trigger on this but have concerns about the fit. I’m a little lanky at 6’4” and 185lbs. How tall are you if you don’t mind me asking?
Very good video mate! Can I ask you what do you usually wear underneath the protection and over it? Specially when it’s hot. I ride mostly in Spain. I bought a full jacket from Revit (Proteus) and I’m cooking on it. Thanks!
Cheers thanks for watching. Generally I wear a very thin 1-2 mil almost silky smooth material that acts as a barrier much like what hockey players wear under their protective armour. Over is my MX jersey. I will say on very hot days I have worn a cooling vest that is soaked in icy cold water
Also I will say that leatt protection saved me from Serious injury this weekend my front wheel slid off the trail into a culvert and I went flying over the handlebars and landing on my shoulder and violently rolling out. If I wasn't wearing all of this body protection I don't think I would have walked away without Serious injury. In my next video I'll show viewers the area I wiped out.
Thinking about getting a 5.5 for the same reasons over the all-in-one jacket. I do want flank protection, but do you find the flank protection on the 5.5 gets in the way at all (it looks fairly bulky)?
Not at all. In the video I should of adjusted it more to demonstrate how snug it was. I ride a lot of single track and if it got in my way that would be a show stopper.
@@WADZUP I'm reading that the shoulder pads don't stay in place, slide around, poorly designed strap attaching from pad to shoulder. Exposure to not being in the right place when needed. Many state they have to sue the strap to shoulder area to stop the pad from falling out of place. Thank you👍
@@erick5327 The reason I asked is I'm extremely OCD and picky with how gear feels, functions, fits and if it doesn't work, feel, fit and protect perfectly I obsess about it. That being said the comment about the strap on the shoulder pads thats a fair point but a easy remedy. The straps purpose essential is to ensure they sit correctly in the right spot for optional protection. Obviously lots of people are different sizes i.e wide shoulder narrow etc so the reason for the cam buckle strap design is to accommodate different sjoulder sizes but I also found that when I set the straps of the shoulder pads to the correct positioning for my shoulders that the buckle would slip slide slightly out of adjustment but it was a super easy fix to ensure it stayed perfectly in place so Im surprised so many people whine about something so easy to make right. I used some hockey tape and simply wrapped the buckle so it can't back off. Basically set it and forget it. The strap really only has about a max of 4 inches of possible length adjustment but I didn't want the strap ever moving. Ive crashed many of times and with this uber easy gear tweek it's totally fine. Essentially a 1 minute mod.
