Steve Waugh made that 201* against WI in 1995 taking them to their famous 2-1 series win which made Australians the world champions even in test cricket, but not without being troubled by Ambrose & co. quite constantly throughout his innings. It had more to do with his courage and determination than to do with any sheer skill, to make that double against Ambrose and Walsh at their absolute best. It had been the first test series WI lost in 14 years since 1981. Till then, WI were at least a notch above every other Cricketing nation, in terms of test Cricket. With that famous double hundred, Steve Waugh transformed his image from a very good batsman to one of the greats of the game, WI started their decline which only accelerated after the '96 world cup with the retirement of Richie Richardson ....

What I too had mentioned above had been on the greatness of Ambrose as a bowler, and the greatness of West Indies as a Cricketing nation until that famous Frank Worrell series held in '95 when West Indies were beaten for the first time in a Test series in almost 15 years (after 1981/82 or so). Until then, they had been unbeatable enjoying one of the longest winning streaks in the history of international Cricket. They started to crumble so badly only after the Worldcup '96 and with the retirement of Richie Richardson by the end of it. Until then, they still had been a formidable force in both formats (Tests and ODIs) except for that one series loss in '95 despite their quite a few unexpected losses too in between (the loss to India in the final of Worldcup '83 due to the middle and late order collapse having been placed formidably to clinch the title for the 3rd successive time ..., the loss to South Africa in the quarter-final of Worldcup '92 having beaten even its eventual winners Pakistan comprehensively by 10 wickets in the first round, the lost to Kenya in the Worldcup '96, etc.). In fact, they could have even won Worldcup '96 had it not been for that unfortunate collapse in the last few overs of the semi-final against Australia, until the 40th over of their innings they had been well on track to make it to the final. I'm sure Sri Lankan top-order might have preferred facing the Australian bowling attack which they eventually did successfully over facing a bowling attack consisted of the likes of Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, etc. at their peak under any condition on any day.
So, just learn to read properly before putting any aggressive comments and jumping into arguments quite unnecessarily !... 🙂.
