    The 308 is one of the most popular hunting caliber here in Sweden. This Norma 180g bullet is marketed for the Long Range Moose Hunters up in the Northern part of the country where the shots can be out at 300 meters of more.
    NORMA is known for it´s consistant quality.

      @@KKKKKKK-sr1fz The 6,5x55 has been a standard since it´s introduction in 1890 for the Swedish military. It is still in the Class 1 hunting caliber but it is on the edge of being reclassified to Class2 which will put it out of the Moose hunting field. I have two tikka's. One in .308 & one in 7mm-08. Both are awesome rifles. .308 ammo is a bit more versatile in ammo offerings in the U.S. Not sure about Europe. Norma has a great 160 gr round for larger game in 7mm-08. Can't go wrong with either one.

    I’ve heard that 24” is the SAAMI standard barrel length for velocity testing, that’s why is standard across multiple manufacturers. Makes for easier comparison between brands and calibers.

    • @masonleather_outdoors
      @masonleather_outdoors  6 месяцев назад +2

      You’re correct, and for 24” to be used when 22” and shorter is what is actually in popular use for a given caliber by orders of magnitude is disingenuous at best.

    The reason that Norma lists the velocity from a 24” barrel is simply that the SAAMI specification calls out a 24” barrel as the specified length for the .308 Winchester. That is what the industry agreed upon length every Ammo manufacturer should use to provide comparable data. It is also what Winchester uses to provide reference ammo data on so other industry members can report into the SAAMI technical members data base and calibrate their ballistic lab data .

    G'day mate....Just a quick suggestion that you might need to do a bit more research if you are planning to use this 180gr bullet in this particular 308 rifle for long range hunting on large game. Looking at your velocity data and the suggested minimum impact velocity of 2200fps for the Bondstrike Bullet for designed terminal performance you will be at the minimum velocity around 250-300m. The goodnews is that this is a great bullet for traditional hunting ranges inside 300m and the old 308 has more than enough juice to get the job done. It is a very popular choice for moose her in Norway in this exact calibre and bullet weight and is rated highly for being effective.

  • @zacharyharwell351
    @zacharyharwell351 5 месяцев назад +3

    I think 24" is the factory test standard because it's a fairly decent "do all" length for most calibers; from 6mm Creedmoor to 300 win mag, and all calibers in between, 24" is a good baseline for all of them. It'll bring down the big boys like 338 and the 300s, and it'll bring up the 308s and 6.5 creedmoor, intermediate types, but it'll never bring a caliber up/down enough that velocity differences are unnoticable
    That's my theory anyway: it gives a good industry standard for comparing individual loads within a certain cartridge, as well as a good standard for comparing across cartridges, without favoring one or the other extreme too intensely.

So it hit very, very hard. It knocked the moose off his feet and it could not get back up, bullet was retrieved in the moose at only 65grs... ouch. Not sure I'd use those at close range anymore.

    Very intersting video. Waiting to see the groupings.
    Your barrel doesn't seem to be slow as the difference in velocity with what is announced is what we can expect from a 22" barrel.
    Silencers usually increase speeds of about 2%.

    The slow barrel thing can be a fact. I recall an article where several rifles were tested and there were some eyebrow raising numbers between a 16" and 26" .30-30. The 26" rifle might have bee the slow barrel with the newer 16" being decidedly a fast barrel. They was a difference but not as much as you would have expected. It happens. Tolerance and twist rates along with freebore all can conspire to make a barrel one way or the other and defy averages a bit.

    I just got 2 cases of this ammo last week in 308, a case of 30-06, and I should have a case of 7RemMag tomorrow if FedEx gets their act together. I got 2 cases of 300WM 2 months ago.
    Shot the 308 and 30-06 this weekend. The -06 stuff shoots good in a Tikka and my Rem 700 with a Brux barrel, MOA or less.
    In all of my 308s this ammo only shot well in 2:
    Tikka T3x with a Brux barrel
    Tikka T3x stainless superlite Ember (factory rifle)
    In both of these I'm very pleased with 0.7 and less with 3, 4, and 5 shot groups
    Both of my Benchmark barrels did not do well at all with 2" groups. My Tikka stainless superlite Hunter was also around 2"
    I did not clock any of these yet. I usually see which rifle likes it best, then clock it in those.
    In my Tikka stainless T3x 300WM, the Bondstrike shoots 0.5MOA almost every time I shoot it. Sometimes less sometimes more, but not over MOA yet.

      This channel is primarily focused on hunting oriented information, I use popular hunting rifles for given calibers. ARs aren’t really in the purview of the channel.

    Consider velocity loss at 300 and 400 yards

      @@masonleather_outdoors many ballistic calculators are free on the web. Anyone can take your velocity data and the mfg.'s ballistic coefficient data and "run the numbers" to many ranges. You always state that what you have is specific to your rifle and location, so each person's results will vary. Too many folks want to make you dance to their tune, but would never put a dime in your cup.
      You keep doing it your way, and I will keep watching.

    Can you do tests on the federal fusion tipped for me this is the best bullet ever made. This is a renewed bullet with plastic inflation and a higher ballistic coefficient

    What is a slow barrel? Genuinely curious?

    • @moa.333
      @moa.333 6 месяцев назад

      A slow barrel refers to twist rate of the barrel. More lands and grooves for every foot of barrel creates faster spin of the bullet. Less lands and grooves per foot of barrel makes the bullet spin slower. Bullet weight determines which spin rate is best. Fast twist best for heavy bullets. Slow twist for light bullets.

      Also I've seen the same gun just different examples shoot faster or slower on average. Its like engines off the assembly line that just make a bit more or less horse power

      Some barrels shoot slower than others. Not all barrels are identical. Slightly larger or smaller.
