🎮 "You're In Control" Спорт
So Eben is actually the calm one. His mentor, Bakkies Botha - literally went on the field to hurt people for fun. --- Also, these are just 5% of the bad takes. Eben is like 95% clean player.
I've heard that! I commented on another video about Sebastien Chabal and how he's a gentle giant off the field having met him once and someone said the same about Etzebeth
@@rogu3roosterI believe Nigels Ownes was asked which rugby player he'd have dinner with and the answer was Bakkies Botha. A maniac on the field but off the field the kindest soul that just wants to invite you over for a braai.
@ironmaiden9697 what's the old saying, football is a gentleman's game played by brutes, rugby is a brutes game played by gentlemen. Most of the 'quote' dirty players are actually the friendliest off the field
That's what I've been hearing. Thanks for letting me know Joseph! His record is really clean from what I've been told
Bakkies was fun to watch haha
Eben actually won best player in South Africa back to back , 2022 and 2023 ... and he is much calmer now
Yeah I've seen Eben has a really clean record too! He's awesome!
Eben has had 5 yellow cards in his more than 100 games for south africa. his club record is even cleaner. hes one of the cleanest players and knows where the line is and tiptoes it very well.
Wow! That's a very clean record! Thanks for letting me know that Alex
@@QSNggdon’t think he has had any red cards
Ive known enough South Africans through rugby(wherever you go to a rugby club in the world you'll find a few) to say they are a nightmare and very agressive on the field but off the pitch such good lads and a little Brai with them is an experience and the hospitality is phenomenal
That's what I've heard! I love that Alan
There are 2 really impressive things about Etzebeth (more than the rest I mean) :
1/ How clean he is : he's got so few yellow and know how to manage his agressivity very well
2/ the longevity : I think it's been 10 years since he's been in the conversation for "best lock in the world" so it should place him in the conversation for "best lock ever"
That is very impressive! Thanks for letting me know that Mat
and he is SUCH a hunk and SO cool .. btw I forecast that he'd be a star years + years + years ago 😉
He's from South Africa, he's a giraffe, not a moose 😂. But yeah he'd probably walk into any international team as first choice, he's just that good.
He's a beast for sure!
The first American to not make me cringe with his comments!
I appreciate the love René! That means a lot 🙌🏽
They say that Eben needs to become angry first, while his predecessor Bakkies Botha was angry already!
I love that! I have to check out Bakkies
@@QSNgg Bakkies Botha one of the dirtiest players in recent rugby history. Lots of cheap shots.
@@adfmacU obviously don’t know Bakkies mate and neither do U understand SA culture if U call him cheap..
Difference between him and Johnson came down to Bakkies not giving a shite about media attention..
Unlike the “then” queen’s men having to shelter their evil deeds behind the shoulders of their mates to keep their ugly play away from the tabloid lenses..
In England the tabloids will rip U apart if you engage in foul play leading to a penalty that costs the game..
In SA the papers will praise you for the initiative to show the ref that he is biased..
Then Rassie came..
And now games are refereed equal..
So don’t flap lips and call Bakkies cheap..
he did what was needed at a time when it was needed..
The game grew and styles and attitudes changed..
What was was and what is is
And the game is better for it
@@jandreneethling5664 how could Botha’s deliberate headbutt of Jimmy Cowan whilst completing a tackle be described as anything but a cheapshot?
@@adfmacno cheap shots, it’s just the way rugby is supposed to be played. You’re too used to girly rugby played today.
Eben is no doubt the best lock in the world and has been for a while now.
I can see why 💯
Bakies Bota is better
He is a brilliant player. He only gets involved if one of his mates are getting unfairly tackled. He is very calm and the voice of reason on the field. A lot of this stuff is from when he was super young. Special player.
You said it perfectly ! I see he gets label incorrectly as ruthless, but he's a very clean player
So Etzebeth's father passed on last year during the course of the world cup , people thought he would sit the games out for grief but he continued to power on and even save us against France ❤ after being sent off then coming back onto the pitch
Wow! That's a hard moment to play through. Playing w/ fellow mates had to be a form of therapy
he was nominee for player of the year last year...many thought he should have won. Most agree that hes the best number 4 (lock) of all tiime.
I see why! He's looks like an incredible player. I'll definitely keep an eye on him Ettore
Oooh, best of all time is a debate. He is certainly top 4, (with in no particular order, Johnson, O'Connell, Earls)
@@michaelsblythU are correct sir.
Calling anyone the best ever is futile.
Best of his generation? Probably..
Generation before that was Bakkies and the generation before that was Eales, Johnson etc
Go back in time and look for the enforcers and U will find Collin Meads and Frik Du Preez.. both of which could finish games with broken arms and still enforce..
Even in Etzebeths time you have hard as nails bastards like Brodie Rettalick and slightly before that the Welch freak of stainless steel nature in the form of Alun Wynn Jones (if my spelling is correct)
I’m a South Africa but at 6’4” running the 100m in less than 11secs in my youth years I played lock..
For me it comes down to badass tight 5 play and currently Etzebeth is head and shoulders above everyone. For this generation..
To call him the best ever is to disgrace the 4’s that paved the way..
@@jandreneethling5664perfect debate for a couple of pints
i just love how he smiles when he stands up to someone
Yeah you can tell he's ready for war with that smile
My favourite Springbok,luv U Eben🎉❤
Eben is awesome!
3:22 fun fact, the player he's fighting there is called Lood De Jager, and a few years after this him and Etzebeth would be the lock pair for the springboks, and it would be etzebeth's lock partner he'd play the longest with.
Thanks for that fun fact Hay! That's really cool to know
Also with what he said lood De Jager are taller the eben
I used to live in Cape Town when Etzebeth played for the Stormers....saw him a few times around town, the height , frame...intimidation....im 6'2" and well build....but this dude...no way..... just that look on his face....walk away
That's awesome you saw him around town. You're a big man yourself Michael. I can definitely understand seeing a man of his stature is intimidation though! He's on a different level
Eben is Huge for South Africa, apart from the enforcing he steals loads of lineouts, very good with his hands and makes some fantastic defensive reads. He is an excellent no.4
Hey Chris! I appreciate your insight on Eben. I see he a valuable asset to SA and an incredible athlete
One stand-out skill that Eben has that hasn't been mentioned - his ability to read and disrupt opposition line outs. He is a big guy, but he gets into the air very very fast. His team mates obviously lifts him higher once he is in the air, but his first, explosive lift-off enables him to get infront of the opposition jumper (keeping in mind the opposition knows when and where the ball will be coming).
You said it perfectly Rienke! Eben is exceptional and makes massive plays with his great IQ
That player he ran over at about 12min was bizmark du plessis. Also a titan of a playerr
I'll check out Bizmark as well! 2 titans going at it!
@@QSNgg Bismarck du Plessis was the long time hooker for the Springboks, in the clip he played for the Lions I guess whilst Etzebeth played for the Stormers. It's insane how many Springboks the Stormers have produced!! Siya Kolisi, Cheslin Kolbe, Damian Willemse, Manie Libbok, Gio Aplon, Breyton Paulse, Pieter-Steph du Toit list is too long!! We have the most talent in the Western Cape, the other provinces love to buy our players for their clubs. International clubs especially in France love signing our talent and England.
Wow our springbok, amazing Eben, definitely enjoyed watching him again. Thanks for the positive commentary. Eben is a player South Africa is proud of. South Africa produces amazing rugby players. We are a tough lot. Simply the best!!
I have all the love and respect for you and all of South Africa 🇿🇦❤️
Lovely video ❤ proudly South African
Thanks so much Felisha! I appreciate you!
Etzebeth knows how to control his aggression - One yellow card in elite rugby and three yellow cards in international rugby
That's an impressive and clean record he has! I'm going to watch more of his play. I like his style
@@QSNgg A lot of footage is about Etzebeth being aggressive but in recent times his game has become more clever in reading the opposition, not just aggression
Love Eben. Also my alma mater, Tygerberg High in Parow North, Cape Town!❤
Eben is incredible! I've heard Cape Town is incredible Sandy!
@@QSNgg Overcrowded and expensive, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We literally have everything here😉
The largest Bok is R.G. Snyman 6'9" 290lb, a beast, but also has a delightfully delicate touch with the ball , offloads and handoffs where in the past Bok second rowers would just be demolition balls all day long.
I'll have to check out R.G. Snyman! Dude is massive!!
I'll never forget the 2023 Rugby World Cup quarter final match against France when Eben drove over the try line with 4 French defenders hanging on to him. That try is my Roman Empire.
That try was exceptional Amanda!! Eben is so incredible and such a great leader
Best lock in the world 💪🏻🇿🇦and plays for the World Champions
You’re absolutely right about that
I recommend this Damian Willemse Is A Springbok Attacking Weapon | Speed, Skills, Steps & Big Hits
100% going to check out Damian. Thanks for the recommendation John 🙌🏽
Yes, the tape on the legs is for lifting. The tape on the head over the ears is to protect the ears during scrummaging from cauliflower ears (as is many of the forwrds wearing scrumcaps - its to protect the ears too)
Thanks for letting me know that Rob! I appreciate you!
What many people don't actually know is that Eben was a very accomplished freestyle and Greco Roman wrestler throughout his school career.
I did not know he was a Greco Roman wrestler. That’s awesome! I appreciate you letting me know that Raymond.
I have commented before on other channels, but I have met and been close to an Italian rugby player. I am not a small guy but it was amazing. I cannot even imagine how it is to be close to Eben. Cheers from Italy
That's awesome you got to be around Italian players. Yeah Eben is a tall massive man! Cheers Miles 🙌🏽
He is one of, if not the, best locks in the world. He's a hell of a rugby player.
That's what I've been hearing Sylvia!
Eben is much better just focusing on the game rather than the man. He takes line-outs, he steals line-outs and is probably the best no.2 jumper in world rugby, he powers the scrum, he runs, he dominates in the tackle, he off-loads, he scores, he pilfers. He is just a complete player. Only thing I haven't seen him do often is kick.
You said it perfectly Michaal! He is a complete player. I'm glad I got a chance to see him performing on the field rather than doing the enforcer activities. He's exceptionally talented
The beast himself I would have hated to play against him one of the best in his position with his size, aggression and strength also really nice of the field though
Yeah he's a massive man for sure! I've heard he's a nice guy. And his record is really clean from what I've been told
At 15:50, the guy Eben is lifting is his lock teammate, Lood De Jager, the guy in orange he was fighting earlier that you thought was his brother.
Oh thanks for letting me know that! That’s cool. They’re teammates and go get each other that hard.
I love how competitive they are
The guy that looks like his brother is one of his fellow team mate for the springboks and his name is loot de jager
How funny! That's cool they play on the Boks together. Thanks for letting me know Donovan
@@QSNgg your welcome
Wish they showed the rest if the clip where Eben spins him around, puts him on his back and his elbow in his face. Dominant!
Much love from Byron Bay Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
Massive love Arnold! I have all the love and respect for Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
as i am someone who has met eben i can confirm he is massive
That’s awesome that you met him in person Heinrich! That dude is a giant
Yeah a lot of this is young Eben, he"s 100% clean these days, and has been since joining forces with Rassie
You said it perfectly! I see he's a very clean player on both International and club level. He's an incredible talent and athlete
Awesome work VIDEO
reviews are LOOKING awesome!!
Much love Voight! I appreciate you!
You should check out some of Damian Willemse's highlights. He has insane footwork
I'll 100% check out Damian. Thanks for the recommendation John 🙌🏽
The tape around the quads are for lineouts yup. I'm a lineout jumper and also from South Africa.🇿🇦
Thanks for letting me know that! That's awesome you're a lineout jumper. I'm guessing you're 6'5" or taller?
Bakkies Botha prayed every time he played. GOD PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR WHAT I AM ABOUT TO DO
Wow! Bakkies sounds intense
Yeah if you hear his story unreal. He was a bouncer before rugby so he must have faced bigger guys than he encountered on the rugby field
My name is Eben
Oh that's awesome!
True I agree with the comment about Eben the calm one….if you truly want to see an enforcer have a look at Bakkies Botha
Yeah I've been hearing a lot about Bakkies and will check him out. Thanks for that suggestion Mario
You welcome….Bakkies was Ebens predecessor….played the same position….👍🏽….your reactions to our players is priceless bro…😂🤣😂🤣
React to Ardie Savea. He Won Rugby player of the year last year. He's A Beast.
100% checking out Savea! I appreciate you 🙌🏽
Another interesting fact about Eben and his brothers, they are actual boxers. So if it were to come to blows it will be worse.
Thanks for those facts! That's very cool. I can tell he's cool under pressure when conflict arrises , that's a man that knows how to scrap
Important thing to note is that getting into the heads of the opponent is a clear tactic that has been used by South Africa for decades now.
And the role of South Africa's enforcers are to get the opponent super angry and only seeing red mist.
And if the opponent is angry and looking for revenge, he won't focus on his team's game plane anymore. And once that happens, that team has lost a player.
So appear aggressive, and use that to make your opponent really angry.
Meanwhile, you're actually perfectly calm, and are simply using a tactic to throw your opponents off of their game plan.
And quite clearly, it's an incredibly effective tactic for the Springboks.
I love that Dan! That psychology and tactic works very well !
Most of these happened when he was younger. Since he’s got older he’s hardly had a yellow or red card.
You’re 100% right about that Ruby! As I’ve learned more about Ebben, I see that he has a very clean club and international record with cards
So I feel that these videos do him a disservice because he’s such an incredible player and leader
For all his aggression, I have never seen him throw a punch on opposition players. He knows how to control himself. *Respect*
You're right about that and I learned a lot more about him on Chasing the Sun. He's an incredible man
Love Eben- Go Bokke!
You said it perfectly Suzanne. Eben is awesome!
The line-out jumpers usually have foam or cut-up pieces of garden hose under the electrical tape so that the lifters can lift them more easily.
Stop the cap
These days they have dedicated plastic 'cups under the tape.
Thanks for letting me know that Connor !
Man's legit a great rugby player.
100%! Eben is incredible!!
Here in SA us Boer people thrive on danger. Quads tape, for lifting in lineout...
You’re 100% SA has tough individuals and a strong culture. And thanks for letting me know about the line out and quad tape as well.
have a look at Eben Etzebeth's steals he is great at that
I will definitely check that out Nathan thanks for letting me know
Elizabeth ❤
He's the best!
Los .vir .E BEN..uit.. hys ..ons .RugBy ❤
Ek is mal oor Eben! Hy is 'n ongelooflike leier en ongelooflike speler
Sometimes in a rugby Team u need people like Eben..calm with ruggered style of play..
You're 100% right about that
Only young eben was the enforcer. The more mature he has become the more he began to realise how important he is for the teams he play
You're right about that Gareth. I've learned a lot more about Eben since filming this. He's a great player with a clean record
The tape thing are blocks used for grip in the lift
Thanks for letting me know that. I appreciate you 🙌🏽
Saw him once in real life. He is like 10cm taller than me and 26kg heavier than me...looked like a giant. Biggest player I actually met was Kobus Wiese...holy moly, the guys was build like truck
He's a massive man for sure! I'll take a look at Kobus Wiese as well. Crazy how people can get so big
I dont know if there has been a comment about it but they but things under the tape to push him up.
Yeah, good heads up on that. I heard they put blocks under the tape to help lift.
Hey! I reccomend this video: Episode 2: How rugby changed my life - Eben Etzebeth (Official Springbok RUclips). Its a short video, just some backstory for his life. Also, you should check out Malcolm Marx also aspringbok rugby player.
I'll check that out for sure! Thanks for linking me to that Dusty! I'll check out Marx as well
check out RG Snyman, a match last weekend he was holding back 4 players on his own.. He's a viking beast
That was so awesome to see Snyman take on those four men by himself! He’s a massive man
Eben's an absolute beast. Nice reaction, bro! FYI Argentinian lock Tomas Lavanini holds the record for the most red cards in international tests (3) and has received the most yellow cards in Argentina's rugby history.
Much love Christiaan! I really appreciate you boss! I'll check out Tomas Lavanini. That's an insane record to hold hahah
@@QSNgg Nah, you can give him a skip haha; you know I just like my stats. Much peace and love from South Africa! Will try to connect on your live stream again over the weekend. 👊
@@christiaanjacobs that's why I love you! You know all the stats and help educate me on stuff I would not know. Hope to catch up this weekend for sure! Much love and peace as always❤👊🏽🙌🏽
Eben has 2 yellow cards and no red cards, overall, but Ja, he's a lot calmer now😅
You're 100%! Eben is a very clean player and has an incredible club and international record with cards. He has such an amazing IQ and is a great leader
Eben will do good in NFL ey😅
I think he would for sure
That would be funny to watch even if it will never happen.😂
So, DYK when he started playing for the Stormers, they had to custom make dumbbells for him because the ones in their gym where too lightweight for him...🤯
I did not know that Chris! Thanks for letting me know! Eben is a beast
Bakkies...bloody legend! Rugby bouncer
I'll definitely make a Bakkies video!
Eben is a skilled player, please watch videos on his games
I will for sure Robyne
Yes the tape is to help them pick him up
Thanks for letting me know that Jayden
I know i keep requesting but
Ardie Savea and Rieko Ioane need to be next
I have both of these videos coming out soon Ricardo! Thanks so much
Bakkies Botha once said that rugby is not the same now that there are so many HD cameras around.
I can understand that for sure. Same with American football too. The game is not as hardcore as it was in the early days
I see you already have many comments saying this. But I don't really get why that first video was made the way it was. I think the mistake was watching videos of him being an enforcer as opposed to just his good plays. He certainly is an enforcer in many ways, but that's not actually what he is known for. The respect other players have for him, and the respect he has for the refs is almost unrivaled he is actually one of the cleanest players despite how those videos made him look. The way he lifts and encourages his teammates is truly special.
If you want to see probably the greatest captain, and the most revered leader with great sportsmanship, look up a video on the background of Siya Kolisi, he has truly one of the best backstories, and is the greatest leader currently in the sport, super inspirational.
You're 100% spot on Jason! I see that he has a very clean record both internationally and club level
I'll check out Siya Kolisi as well
Believe it or not Eben is actually very disciplined. I don't know if I've seen him throw a punch. He gets involved when he thinks his opponents are taking liberties on his teammates and when he does he is actually calming things down most of the time when he's grabbing the biggest guy on the pitch.
Yeah I learned that about Eben. He has a very clean international and club record. He's awesome!
I remember when he started playing in the Western Province in SA. I thought " Who the actual feck is this new noodle wanting to play for MY team( yeah l support WP) and he made a total cock up of the game. But was many years back. Now he knows how to play
That's awesome you had a chance to see him grow and develop to the player he is today
He had 2 yellow in 110 caps. 😊
Such a clean player! I wonder how he got that reputation
You should do a George North video now he’s retiring from International rugby!
Much love Will! Here is my George North video: ruclips.net/video/54zr6j0Q-SQ/видео.html
@@QSNgg this is why you’re my favourite American RUclipsr
omg is that Lood deJager and Eben fighting at 3:38?!! bruh Eben really doesn't hold back no matter who he plays against! I don't think deJager was called up to the bokke that time yet, they both look young there
That's a great question. I'll try and find out. Hopefully somebody in the comments knows
He is named the enforcer because of his aggression in open play.. the fighting is a natural part of the sport. Search anyone one in world rugby history and they will all have a on field boxing reel. Got into several myself lol. But yeah Bakkies Botha is the most physical player of all time... most who played against him and with him say it.
Yeah I still have to check out Bakkies! I hear he was on another level of enforcer haha! Tough dudes!
If you know rugby then you would know that the 2 most feared numbers 4 players are Eben Etzebeth and Bakkies Botha. And Eben has won player of the year twice!!
That's what I've been hearing. I heard Bakkies is the OG
@@QSNgg ruclips.net/video/5-QGIeNfLI4/видео.html&pp=ygUYbW9zdCBmZWFyZWQgcnVnYnkgcGxheWVy
You hate to play against him but you’d love having him on your team.
The tape around the quads is predominantly for lifting in the lineout so that the lifters hands don’t slip on wet legs.
There probably is another use for them but as a back I wouldn’t know 😂
The Scottish player he was getting aggressive with was Jim Hamilton who plays the same position. Also a bit of an enforcer. Lovely interview on Rugby Pass of those two just strolling down the streets of France and chatting like gentleman.
Thanks for letting me know about the tape. I love the background on the Scottish player too! I'm going to check out that conversation. I appreciate you Lewis 🙌🏽

pls do a reaction to Israel Folau the Randy Moss of Rugby. incredible athlete
I will for sure
He had to have custom made 165lb (75kg) dumbbells made for him for training as the others were too light
That's awesome! Strong man!
Much bigger people then him, media makes him sound like he is superman
That makes sense
Fun fact about Eben. He use to play wing before he moved to lock
Wow! That's really cool! He must be pretty fast then
@@QSNgg I think he is a bit heavy now for that kind off speed now but yes he is fast for his hight and weight muscle class. It just really gets to me the click bait that youtubers are making all these compilations pretend it is to showcase a player like Eben as an enforcer but then for 10min all you see is the negative the fights yet he have far more less cards on his record then other players I know.
The next Rugby player you must react to is Kurt Lee Arendse 😎 also a springbok of South Africa 🇿🇦
100% Mark! I'm excited to check out Arendse 🙌🏽
Eben is nothing compared to his predecessor Bakkies Botha also a SA springbok player. He was absolutely brutal

@@QSNgg He was a beast, still is. Eben is 6'8", Bakkies is the same length, but twice the size and strong.

It's common knowledge that when the Etzebeth brothers walk into a bar in Goodwood. Better just to go home
🤣 I love that Alex! He would strike fear in anyone with his stature. Seem like a nice guy from what I've seen in his interviews
Here are some more....Duane Vermeulen, Christian Cullen, Daniel Carter, Schalk Burger, Bismarck Du Plessis and Andre Joubert. Also check out the Du Preez twins school rugby videos 👍
Thanks so much for these recommendations Farrell!
If you think eben is tall there is a player with the name jp du Preez he is 6ft10 he used to play for the cheetahs but plays now for the sal sharks
I'll check out du Preez
He uses 75kg dumbells to do bicep curls. That is 165.347 lbs.
He's strong as heck!! Eben is the man
Great!!!!!
I appreciate you Anna!
I wonder how many South Africans have subbed since you started rugby videos 😂
Check out Jonah Lomu 6ft 5 19 stones runs the 100m in 10.08 seconds an unbelievable All Blacks legend
Here is my Jonah Lomu video: ruclips.net/video/q_cKooLbmmE/видео.html
Eben's card count is actually pretty low considering the stuff he gets up. He is smart enough to go up to the line, but not cross it, so the ref just gives him a talking to and nothing else. In terms of the whole sport itself, a lot of people regard him as really knowledgeable in regards to the laws currently in the game, knowing how to bend them and skirt the lines in his teams favour.
You're 100% right about that Randy. I've done more research on his history since this vid and see he has a very clean international and club card record. Just a tough man who takes up for his teammates when provoked
In my personal opinion, rugby has had many seasons.... especially when it comes to rules. And in many of these "enforcer" videos (not only Eben, Bakkies and a bunch of other Sprinboks and non-SA players) many things are not considered.
Examples include 1) the rules have changed so much - if you really research, you will find that rules around tackles, scrums etc. have become very difficult to apply when practically playing the game).
You said it perfectly. Highlights never give the full picture of the story either.
I've done a lot more research on Eben since first shooting this video and know he's a very clean player.
He's a leader of the team and supremely talented. These 'enforcer' video don't give him the justice he deserves.
He takes up for his team and himself. Never looking for a fight, just defending his team which I love and respect
