im a true hip hop bboy head to the fullest ---- and i have always LOVED THIS SONG -- this is straight up soulful with beat --- freakin dope ass song - i used to put it in the mix on 45 mixed with various breakbeats - the frisco bboys went crazy like "yo what is that record???" !!! did that at one event where it was dj jazzy jeff in the backroom and me in front -- i had my room PACKED - it was "storyville" in frisco.
@Tyeuup22, too right, such a brilliant narrative to this album, loved every minute of listening to this in it's entirety. It's a musical journey of street culture through Sylk 130.
@scenario1 We'll have to agree to disagree. To me, this version is just "Lowdown" with different words. I've always preferred the original. Of course, you're right about this version being a bit more danceable. Me, I'm a musician, and I will appreciate "danceablitliy", I love a groove for the groove's sake...like on the original. It's all good, though.
I've said elsewhere that this was the last great black album of the 90s, but I STILL believe this song is the albums weak spot. This is just an extremely unimaginative use of this sample. Anybody could've done this. The original demo mix is superior in every way. They only reason I can think of that they used THIS version is because it's not as an melancholy as the original version.
I agree with what you're saying re the use of the Lowdown sample to a point, but unlike other straight looped samples, this one (albeit slowed down a few BPM) serves to highlight the vocals, which for me is what this track is all about really.
@Odawg96 I wouldnt call this a weak spot at all....this mix with the reason vocals creates a much better feel than the original demo mix imo(like u said)..... this is a perfect groove song, especially from a dancers perspective...
@tyeuup22 sadly, of course it is under appreciated. As long as there are fans of Deadmau5 then our shit, the stuff worthy of care, will always be underrated. Long may that continue;) We know better. Have faith!
Remember buying this exact cd... bro on cover woz lit too..❤
Yep....still the best use of a Boz Skaggs sample in the world. Ever.
