My brother related to me a story that gives an idea of the power of the .50 cal round from what he witnessed in Vietnam: A couple of Vietcong sappers got on the firebase and made a quick dash for cover behind a CONEX box, similar to those modern-day containers on ships, that contained steel pots and pans for food prepping/cooking; where a soldier using a 50 cal M2 Browning on a jeep mount open fire in that direction. The steel sides of the CONEX, along with the pots and pans, were not enough to protect the sappers, as they were killed from the .50 cal rounds penetrating clean though the CONEX box.

My barber was in Iraq And during traning he got to shoot the m2 and he said that when they shot it 10 times they had to check for a concussion because of the back blast

Ma Deuce. I was the armorer for my company at Ft. Campbell years ago. A lieutenant signed out one of 2 M2 machine guns to fire at the range. He comes back from the range and when I went to check out the weapon I couldn't pull back the charging handle. After taking off the back plate, the damn firing bolt assembly was somehow put in backwards, upsidedown or both. I had to get the small arms specialist to help me to get the gun taken apart. 45+ minutes of trying not damage the gun. Yes, he was a second lieutenant.👍😂

Then start low en work your way up to your target, after 3 tracers you must be on target! When multiple targets, start left and work your way to the right. Not swinging left and right... Our instructor would kick our ass after a shooting like this...haha. But hey ... thanks for posting!

Everyone complaining about waste of taxes, this is a firing range. You can't just pick up a weapon you've never used before and automatically hit your target at >300m away right off the bat. They're training with the weapon.

Shadowwavepool7 Most soldiers get standard issue equipment and your commanding officer would probably wouldn't allow it. If you were a mercenary however and had the resources you could wield a heavy machine gun. (miniguns .50s ect...)
you would be too much of a detriment for it to be allowed, having to carry around .50 ammo would be absurd, the M249 is more appealing in every shape and form, a high rate of fire applied properly is much better considering a lot shooting is done to suppress

And there was only one version of the gatling gun, made by a guy named gatling back in the civil war. Modern rotary cannons choke in all shapes and sizes. There could be miniguns that shoot 5.56mm rounds or there can be monsters like the GAU 8 on the A 10, which has way more firepower than the .50 bmg being shot in this video.

This gun is also used at long range, they used to put a scope on top of it. (It is way more accurate than the gattling gun) and has mor fire power.
