I don’t know man. I own a service shop at Pete’s Pier Marina in Crystal river and I witnessed charter captains taking out 3 groups a day and they all had their limits when they got back. You can get from the boat ramp to the prime fishing grounds in less than 30 minutes up here. Not to mention all the fish that were released and ended dying from the stress. Sometimes the fish need a break to keep it going for the future.
Yup I see it all the time people landing a fish and then spending the next 10 minutes passing it around to take pictures. And in the pictures you see people squeezing the hell out of their insides trying to hold the fish up.
@@KCoutdoors1rock piles my friend, 1-3 ounce weight or free line live bait. my favorite to use is cut up green backs and let it sit on the bottom by the rocks
Thonny when you gonna make night time videos I miss them please 🙏 🎣🎣🎣🎣 just buy a headlight that’s plenty light for the night also, I’ve been fishing with a neon green light on the water that really attract the fish a lot
man thonny, that spot at the skyway rest stop is loaded with trout. I hope there's not too many people fishing at the skyway rest stop flat now brother.
That spot is always loaded with big fish, it was my parents spot and they showed me when I was young. There is also a hidden gem on the south side of the pier that my parents found and I’ve slammed black drum and sheepshead back there everytime I go. I got some slam shadys but the wind yesterday was horrible and I didn’t get hit once.
Some nice trout sir. Love that spot haven't fished it in a while. So I did receive the ned shrimp and I haven't had any luck yet but at the same spot if throw a Slam Shady I get bit. I'm not going to give up. I have confidence in it. I did get the one sixth ounce and I feel like the hook is a little long for the bait. Is the tenth shorter?
To fish the skyway for grouper could I get away with using a fenwick elite heavy? My girl got me a 8k battle and am looking for a not to expensive rod to get out there with. Thanks
@@caseywolf3812 50lb braid is plenty enough. Its all about the leader. Mono or floro 80 to 100lb leader. You can get away with 60lb leader if you know what your doing. The only difference with shorter rods you can get rocked easily you have to put more pressure on the fish.
Worth a shot! Try it out. It’s 50/50 even with my grouper outfit. Ideally you want to use conventional set up. But spinning gear can get it done sometimes
thonny, I heard Todd from Tampa Bay fishing channel say the fish management people want to shut down gag grouper inshore this upcoming season brother. and hes calling bullshit on their numbers. they say people have caught 106,000 pounds of gags in like 49 days this last season inshore.
They put out ridiculous. In short gag grouper data. We're still supposed to have a season later this year, but they'll probably do some type of restriction on it. They were blaming the insure/ from shore fisherman for the overage of grouper caught last year causing it to be shut down early. This is completely false and is just them controlling limit for commercial fisherman and taking away the recreational and captains that go out and fish with clients. It's ridiculous. It's to the point they're telling us what we can and can't do without real data and it's starting to get extremely obvious that they don't care. But that's my two cents.
the only place i caught fish was pass a grille 2 diff locals shared that place and im so glad i listened!. last 3 weeks were brutal but also very fun! i came to visit stayed at Sarasota near siesta key. I watched your vids as a to what to expect and i must say youre super lucky and knowledgeable.is this south or north?
The best spots are the Merry Pier and the jetty with freelined live bait. Use plastic artificials at nigh on the Merry Pier for trout, redfish and snook if you can't get live bait.
This is the third fishing show from you I have scene enjoy the sheepshead catch and cook the sheepshead in the backcountry on the artificial by the back part of weeding by the golf course born and raised in Tampa 51 and I got spots for you contact me I love the show will fish with you or give you some spots Robert Tampa
The FWC is considering closing the gag grouper season for 2 years. Thanks for another great video Thonny.
Must be a great spot on that Skyway. The cement is all blood-stained. Never been there but it looks like a lot of fun. Tight lines Thonny.
They were stacked up

Nice presentation. See you out there!
Great vid, Thonny. I"ve been fishing around that spont for 30+ years, but not in the winter. Guess I'll have to get some waders and give it a try!
The pre fishing iced coffee always hits different!
Oh yeah 💪
that white slam shady is gettin it done brother.
Looking to put in some serious time on the skyway this year. Tight lines dude
Miss fishing for grouper and snapper from skyway pier!

Solid wade sesh! You would freak out with the trout here in Tx
Yeah I’ve seen those TX gators sheesh! I thought the ones I catch in the video were big. Wish our trout that up to the ones you catch in Tx!
Nice job Thonny
Limited time fishing groupr , its ok.. Thanks for the video Thonn❤
Thanks for watching! 👊
No Sabiki rig? Are they banned at skyway? I called pier 60 and they are still using sabiki. Are the rules different? Thanks

Great job, Brother. Would like to share some tips with you.
Appreciate it!
Is this the place that after your done parking you just head straight to the flats?
nice video i might try my luck there Thursday
Good luck!
I've tried this strategy at least a dozen times. Each and every time, dolphins steal my pinfish.

They look like the same length to me! I’ll have to double check. I was actually thinking about making it offset a little bit for better hook up ratio.
what hook are you using on that slam shady brother?
Owner twist lock 1/8 3/0! Been getting on them lately?
Thonny what tide was it when you were wade fishing with the slam shady? Great video as always

Definitely. I started out with my pen spinfisher 6k + 7' H rod and caught abunch of grouper. Before i got my 10k Saragosa + 8'XH.
That’s good to know. What do people typically use like 40-50lb braid?
