Sounds like they've managed to keep the balanced with the rest of the game, good! No need to balance them out by making custodes players run sisters of silence and allies This is an excellent change
Custodes got hit with the Nerf hammer, except it was a Sledge Hammer with "Nerf" written on it. The only good change is that they finally gave Jetbikes an effective melee weapon but at the same time made them the lightest armored unit in the army so I would never let them get close enough to anything to use it.
Regarding lack of Solar Auxilia in plastic: Just consider models from other companies. I am in the process of adding a few Iron Empire (Raging Heroes) models to my Iron Hands. Both factions have a rather callous demeanor and wouldn´t look out of place together on the tabletop.
Is this a separate thing they sell, or something? I'm new to Horus Heresy and was really hoping to try and make a Custodes army that could play in both systems.
@@DoddyIshamel Are things like Wardens, Allarus Terminators or Blade Champions really thousands of years out of time? I don't remember reading anywhere that the Custodes have innovated new technology since the Heresy. Most sources just say that things like the Allarus armour is worn 'in the present day', but don't specify its origin. Seems weird that some Legions can bend the lore to take entire battalions of Mk VI armoured marines, but I can't get rules to use my "Custodians with Robes" miniatures.
@@GreyHunter88 I mean aren't the wardens just Hetaeron guard and the blade champion just a shield captain? The terminators are new "low tech" versions of the 30k ones, same with the jetbikes.
I'll confess I'm very disappointed that there's so little crossover. I'd been holding off on Heresy, thinking I could make a Custodes army that I could play in both HH and 40k. Thank God I watched this review before buying the book... Does anyone know what this 'expanded PDF' is? Is that a Horus Heresy tradition? Does that mean if you buy this book in PDF they will add to it later? Or is it a separate book they sell later on?
The two Astartes books were accompanied by a free pdf on the warhammer community website that had a whole bunch of extra units that either don't have models any more or were otherwise deemed outside the scope of the published book.
Everytime GW releases any kind of 'Imperial Agents' supplementary rules and don't include Arbites/Enforcers I take it as the personal attack it is clearly meant to be. SPACE COPS ARE A REAL ARMY!!
Knights Errant are noticeably absent. I know they are in the Legacy pdf, but was hoping they would get "real" rules here, setting a precedent of updating older profiles properly for the new edition, since we all know that pdf is 95% disaster. EDIT: Valdor vs. Alpharius would be interesting. Alpharius is so not a fighty character this edition. EDIT 2: Interesting that the Tribune requires high point games, effectively making it so you cannot play Custodes below a certain point limit. Or did I miss something?
@@Sothas - This seems like a typo to m, but who knows what was intended. I think they are trying to make it so you can't take the teleport array in smaller games. Maybe?
OP in game and in the fluff. They are unique in the sense the Emperor choose and had a hand in creating every one of them, compared to the Astartes that are mass produced.
Lots of thoughts here, some good, some bad, but, man, Valdor still sucks. Which at least matches his model, so if nothing else there is consistency. More seriously, I have some reservations of the removal of the refractor field in favor of a baseline 6++ and the Praesidium shield going down to 5++, as well as a broad absence of Brutal on their weapons, but I guess with the changes to the overall game and the presence of AP2 Guardian weapons everywhere it's less of an issue.
ngl the custodes side was an utter crash burn, over tuned melee but horrible shooting? besides the stats remind me of the 40k codex its obvious a 40k player wrote this not 30k
This game is now unplayable if you include custodes. They are so incredibly broken it's not even funny. Compare ANY elite WS5 terminator from any legions to these guys that are 45 points each. They will mince your shaft, your elite and whatever else is next. You can't even shoot them off since they are practically immune to small arms being t5 w+ 2wounds and don't care that much with the few lascannon you're packing since almost nothing instant kill them. They even all have melta bombs so you can't even try to skew them with some other armies. The game felt relatively balanced so far but this release just ruins it.
L2P these have been nerfed and are very beatable. plus their points reflect them now. they no longer have great invuls and T5 will get eaten up. FOTA is still a much stronger list. points wise

Auric Warplate is 2+/6++ so it would be worth the shields it improve to a 5++ for Guardians:) too many aurics.
Glad you pointed this out, I was looking at my Shield Guard and I think they felt fear.
huge nerf from what it had befor.

Palantine Enforcers with some tinkering as well.

I feel lije Constantine should have ws 8. He is meant to be an extremely good melee character. He seems more tuned towards breezing through chaff.
the nemisis rule keeps him attacking anything threatening like a boss
Nah ws7 makes sense to be honest

They are the Legio Custodes in the Heresy. They become “Adeptus Custodes” later. The title needs an update 😅
Power scale is the problem. The Mechanicum suck. Not the best way to handle FW sales.
I’m bitter about what they did to mechanicum.
They’re not “Adeptus” Custodes, they’re Legio Custodes. This isn’t 40K, and the Adepta Terra aren’t formed until after the Horus Heresy.
I fixed it
As a Word Bearers player, this feels like a very unnecessary hard counter
So this confirmed anything not space marine is so badly balanced and written. Wont be buying this crap. Thanks for the review though! Great job.
