    As someone new to networking this video was great. Gave me the understanding that a network Layer 3 switch could be used as a router instead of getting one rented from the ISP.

    How can we identify from CLI whether the device is Router or Layer03 switch ? Any commands

    I am setting up a LAN for a machine network. I currently have some 2960 layer 2 switches but I need to create multiple vlans. I believe a layer 3 is what I would need since I don't plan on having any WAN with this network setup. Am I correct on this?

    • @NetworkEngineerStuff
      @NetworkEngineerStuff  2 года назад

      Yes ! a layer 3 device is required when you to achieve communication between vlans

    Can NAT configure into layer 3 switch ? I faced this same question in an interview 😃

    • @NetworkEngineerStuff
      @NetworkEngineerStuff  2 года назад

      Nat is not supported on Layer 3 switches except for few nexus switches that to depends upon specifications

    • @Ed.Miller
      @Ed.Miller 2 года назад

      Some Cisco IE/industrial switches support what they call L2 NAT. Not as many features as a router.

    What are the difference between Layer-2 and L-3 switch?

    • @NetworkEngineerStuff
      @NetworkEngineerStuff  3 года назад +1

      layer 2 switch provides only layer 2 (switching) functionality but layer 3 switches are capable of layer 2 and layer 3 functionalities i.e switching and routing

    • @NetworkEngineerStuff

      For layer 3 switch you should enable routing by giving command - ip routing

    • @zuliano05
      @zuliano05 4 года назад +1

      @@NetworkEngineerStuff yes. This command y to activate the routing between vlans. I understand that. But a want to connect a layer 3 switch with a router and i would like know how can i do that.

    If you are describing this kind of simple basic subjects, do not use abbreviation such as VPN, MPLS etc. Just give the full name...
