- We fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday at Emirates Stadium, with goals from Leandro Trossard and Enock Mwepu handing The Seagulls all three points despite a wonder-goal from Martin Odegaard late on.
After defeat last time out to Crystal Place and injuries to key players, it was crucial we got off to a good start against Brighton in north London, but it wasn't to be.
Chances were few and far between for the Gunners in the opening exchanges, with Bukayo Saka's back-post cross to Gabriel Magalhaes representing our best move in the first 25 minutes.
Three minutes later, though, we were behind. Brighton played a long clearance upfield into the right-hand channel towards Mwepu who picked out Trossard inside the box. The 27-year-old forward only needed a touch to bend the ball past Aaron Ramsdale and into the top corner to give Graham Potter's side the advantage.
We upped the tempo after falling behind as we looked to get back on level terms. Granit Xhaka slid in Emile Smith Rowe as our No. 10 went in search of his 11th goal this season, but with the angle tight, his shot couldn't beat Robert Sanchez at the near-post.
As the half drew to a close, we fashioned our best moment. Bukayo Saka's late corner picked out Gabriel at the far post whose towering header found Gabriel Martinelli unmarked on the goal line. Our young Brazillian duly headed in to level the scores, but after a lengthy VAR review, it was ruled out for offside.
We looked a different side after the break, with Cedric's blocked free-kick the result of a renewed spirit following the restart. A period of domination followed, but tenacious work from Brighton at the back kept the busy Smith Rowe and Odegaard at bay.
Mikel Arteta was soon forced to turn to his bench as the clock ticked past the hour mark with Smith Rowe making way for Eddie Nketiah upfront.
We kept on coming as Saka's driven effort blazed over the bar, before there was to be further anguish for Mikel Arteta's side. Brighton worked a rare spell of second-half possession into a good chance. Moises Caicedo pulled it back to Mwepu on the edge of the box, who smashed it beyond the outstretched right-hand hand of Ramsdale to double the visitors' lead in the 67th-minute.
The final few minutes of the game burst into life as Martin Odegaard's late free-kick was parried into the path of Nketiah who hit the bar from close range. Odegaard then picked the ball up moments later and fired into the top corner from 25-yards to get us back into the contest.
With six added minutes, we pushed and pushed but couldn't quite find enough to level the game.
The final whistle was greeted with disappointment from the N5 faithful, as we were forced to leave the game empty-handed once again in the Premier League.

Arteta out of his depth
Arteta never learns from his mistakes. Same happened last year playing him at lb against villareal in europa but this season we have a natural left back in subs but he doesn't use it. Almost everyone forgot how good Tavares was at the beginning of the season

Lokonga absolutely can't defend.. He may looked like a baller, good with the dribble.. But on the midfield he is too weak, Arsenal needs someone like Partey n Xhaka's physical level on mid..

I don't think if we can be better team if we are not doing something, first adding some potential replacement for partey, tomiyasu, Tierney and one striker will help us to be the arsenal we want...we don't want a team which presses forward after some injuries we start pressing backwards..

Not spending in January and offloading so many players has left us with no squad depth when these injuries inevitably happen. Doesn't help when VAR is never on our side either. :(

We clearly missed Tierney's leadership on the pitch. The team lost its drive and determination since he got injured.

So in the last 6 days, Spurs have gained 6 points on us and a relative GD of +12 (+8 and we’ve had -4). Surely the worst week in our season? Because in August at least it wasn’t in crunch time.

I went to the last two Arsenal games while on vacation and they are literally turning into what they were at the start of the season but to be fair ødegaards goal was amazing
With no Tomiyasu, Tierney and Partey it must be hard for Arteta and the team to perform.
And of course we need a striker who can score.
It's just disappointing that we are slipping out on the Top Four.

@Luke Davies Because i’m a supporter and not completely reactionary. We’re 3 points off with a game in hand. A little 2 game blip doesn’t chuck it all away. Spurs aren’t gonna get 100% of points between now and the end of the season. We’re capable of beating Chelsea and Spurs and then it’s firmly back in our hands.

That VAR decision was an absolute joke. I was so angry when they disallowed Martinelli’s goal without the offside being clear enough to rule out, they literally took a guess and it completely ruined our chances to get back at them in the 2nd half.
We did not play that well regardless, and credit to Brighton for being a much more resilient side.
Agree. I do believe Brighton played well but without that ridiculous VAR decision, we could've played better mentally.
Arteta doesn't have a plan b! I knew not bringing in reinforcements in Jan will haunt us in these tricky games. With no Tomiyasu, no Tierney & now no Partey now, we were/are always one or two injuries & or suspensions away from not having our strongest team!! Top 4 will be even more of a struggle now.

We are struggling to score goals atm so of course it would have made a difference. Look at Weghorst, Chris Wood, Eriksen, Guimaraes, Kulusevski, Diaz, Coutinho etc are you telling me these January additions aren't making any difference to their respective teams...?

Seems like arteta's playing style doesn't fit with nketiah and pepe....arteta should have plan b, c etc which can include those players and use them against certain teams... obviously some teams play more physically and we need different approach, different players against them

Here we go again. By looking at those key players injuries,I have doubt on us completing in top 4. We can see the difference just by losing 3 of our key players. Should stop investing on young talented players and invest more on a few of experienced talented players. If we keep investing for the owners wealth,we'll just ended up in this manner
The VAR decision was brutal. After watching these highlights over I'm not so worried. We are very much still in this. Watch this space. Football is not written in the stars. It's a tough sport with many ups and downs. Money city and Liverpool might be on a different level right now however I'm seeing some togetherness in this team. It just takes a few wins to turn around negativity and bad results. COYG. Still and always the best team in my world. ❤️

Could you tell me what is Arsenal strength; defense, midfield, attacking or none? ArTata has managed to make Arsenal an ordinary team with no strength. If you forced yourself to name one, maybe passing sideway on their own half is Arsenal only powerful play. ArTata has no one to blame now, as he has shifted out all Wenger and Emery era players. He recruited the likes of Lokonga and Tavares, and that showed you how good is ArTata as a manager.

Arteta's arsenal has a better defense than Emery's and late Wenger teams. When it comes to attack, we have the youngest attacking trio which will only get better with time. Arteta is yet to but a striker of his choice, it will be really intriguing in the summer.
The problem being Arteta again he can't change tactics when he has lost his main players .as it seemed that Xhaka isn't good without the cover of Partey and playing left back was a disaster especially knowing we will dominate the game and be hit on counters .then Play Saka left back and Pepe on the right wing Sambi out bcz he seems low on confidence and Mo Elneny in .the team is well balanced the defence is always all over the place when your D-link is not protecting it .Arteta Arteta Arteta very predictable always

Let us be realistic, we ARE going to miss out on Top 4. We still have to play away to Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham and at home to Man Utd. Considering how Arteta hasn't even managed to get a draw against any of the top 4 sides this season, I don't see that trend changing now.
Arteta has had a full season now and though we have shown good form in patches, at the end of the season we will have finished trophy less, out of every cup competition so early and without any European football next season.

Everyone must be trained on shooting, thus, players could be displaced into any position at any time of the game. There should be feints or faking (unpredictability)in shooting positions, thus, deceiving defenders or the opponent, and in that fashion, preventing blocks etc. There are so many things to enumerate,I should pause. Perhaps this Coaching and Media individuals will change. "Arsenal, prepare for the worst".

Now I remember what it feels like to be an Arsenal fan. Was almost enjoying watching the games there for a moment. That’s not right. Arsenal is pain, Arsenal is disappointment, Arsenal is ridicule.
