Bro you and Jason are the photography dynamic duo! Watching your video and his on the same trip complement each other so well. I appreciate your passion for photography in general, I don't shoot film anymore but still enjoy watching your videos. IMHO, the photographs you took the last couple days on this trip were by far your best. Most of the early work was, IMMHO, meh. Not all, but most. I just re-watched this video years after seeing it the first time. I’m a long-time 66 bum. The road is alive. It’s always in a state of flux. What is my point? Time for you two to do this again!
This was awesome…really enjoyed the amazing out of the way places to see along Route 66! Also, new Caleb seemed awesome…would’ve loved to have met him before his untimely demise.
Enjoyed the film, especially since that is a photo trip I would love to make. Also some kickin' music. Would love to see a play list. Looking forward to the next "full length feature".
This was so good to watch! Love these long format videos! You managed to keep it super entertaining the whole time and there's a great mix of photos and b-roll. Great stuff!
Oh awesome thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it and that it had a good pace. I enjoyed the longer format too even though it’s a lot of work. But I’m slightly addicted to it! So glad you like it 😊

Interesting closure to the video. I know for me it is about the experience of shooting, the fun, the adventure and the moments found. Many times I get home, develop my film and it could be a month or more till I even scan the images. Not so much about having the images but going out and looking for them and making all those small decisions when you have a camera in hand. Thanks for sharing your journey with us as always
So much fun and inspiring! Appreciate all the hard work you put into all you do - photos, videos and movies. You've inspired me to make even more film photos and maybe make a film road trip. Thanks so much!
Oh yay! I’m glad to help out and be a bit of inspiration!!! You totally should do a road trip! They are amazing and so much fun!!!! Thanks so much for tuning in and watching :)
I dunno what it is. I love my slice of life America, we don't have nearly as storied a road trip as route 66 here in Australia. But, that's because there is nowhere to road trip to... There is no Mid West, because anything west of me here in Australia by about 1000miles is desert. We do have fly over states... But you can, and I have, sat on a plane (heading to Singapore) and seen nothing but stark emptiness for hours on end flying across central Australia.
It's as if April and Andy Dwyer went on a Route 66 Roadtrip, great shots and great entertainment. I did route 66 from Joshua Tree, CA to Albequerque, NM (had to see the air balloon festival) in eight days with my wife and it was the experience of a lifetime!
I LOVED THIS VIDEO! I STAYED IN IT THE ENTIRE LENGTH... EVEN REWOUND IT TO LOOK AT FEW IMAGES!! IF YOU GUYS PUT THIS ON DVD I'D BUY A COPY!!!! -THE BLACKMAN ARMED WITH A CAMERA
Oh shit! I’m so glad you like the video! That makes me really happy to hear ….. that’s all we ever wanted! I’ll start pressing the DVDs soon! Maybe even VHS 🤙🏼🍾🚀🥰
I would have never thought that you are making these colorfull photos. You always come across rather hamfisted in Jason's videos - but the images you shoot are way more intimate and cheerfull then I thought
Great trip w/ the bois! Btw I enjoyed you color work in this more than usual, that makes me think the pinkish hue that you usually throws the colors of optically, so stick with white!
Really wonderful video and this trip looks so fun! I've never been on the ol 66. Someday maybe...we shall see. I shall see. It is really something, out of say..100 color photos, maybe 10 to 20 tops make me stop and be like 'ooooo' but once black and white images step In...I'm like daannggg. There's something about the feeling there. Not saying b&w is better than color...definitely not, but it just has a very raw feeling. Loved having the variance and seeing what you got to see.
Ahhh thanks so much. I’m glad you like the pics :) You should totally try to go down the Old Route 66 it’s so much fun! And I think you are right. There is something about the black and white shots that are so bad ass
I picked up my M6 from CLA yesterday. I had the opposite effect to your light leaks due to shutter, at speeds 1/500+ it wouldn't expose corectly and I would get underexposed patches. It's all good now, I hope. Have to burn a roll to check.
This took me 3 days of watching a bit then getting busy doing something else but I kept coming back! Love this video!! We took the route 66 trip as a family when I was a kid and this brought back so many memories!
def test your cameras! i bought a voigtlander vitoret 110 before a trip and like 8 shots into the roll it just stopped advancing and i hadnt brought my kodak 110 camera so i just had a bunch of 110 film taking up space.
I really love route 66. I did it in around 10 days, I am impressed you did it in 8! I would love to go back, would probably do it in reverse this time and maybe in parts... and definitely with film. The mojave desert, grand canyon and death valley, though not part of actual 66 are all near enough and would look amazing on film.
Okay, ill start out by saying as I hit the 54 min mark, my page froze and I had to refresh it, which means I lost all of my comments up to the 54 min mark so I am about to go back to hit some key moments. You mention 10 years in Kansas, we want an origin story. "Who is Bad Flashes" Maybe you've done this but hey, I am just at about 2 years of watching your channel, accounting for covid messed up my concept of time. I'm from SE KS so... With that said, Oswego, Burlington, and that random bar on the side of the highway I knew exactly where you were. I remember messaging you or Jason when I had seen your IG story post from one of those locations. Or was it Baxter I called? I don't know. The blue whale, what a cool spot am I right? Imagine how cool it was back in the day for the kids getting to go there and swim. 50-70s pools and swimming spots are the coolest. Now they're commercialized and poo. Now down the road... The tunnel is pretty cool and I think I will make the stop there next time we head that way and I'll load up some cinestill 800t and a diffusion filter and call it a day. (I'm a cinestill fanboy, don't hate readers) Making this trip on rt66 from Joplin, Mo to ABQ last January for my 30th, many of these places you stop at look familiar but it was either, we didn't have the time, or the direct sunlight ruined any photo chances I wanted to take. Tucumcari had to be my favorite spot on the road but I hit it in the afternoon light so it wasn't the greatest and it was overcast but, I took the Churros photo one must take and I also stopped at that leather shop and took some photos on the way out of town. With all of this black and white, I am reminded I need to shoot more of it. I have many rolls in the freezer, just always choose color for some reason. I love that tire photo in the shop building. I stopped here as well but didn't stay long as my wife always stayed in the car since it was freezing out. So it starts raining and you say, "I have to protect my little baby..." I really thought the next shot would be you putting a raincoat on Jason. I had the wrong baby in mind I guess. HAHA So there are multiple reminders that I should shoot more ektar 100. It's one of the first rolls of film I shot when I bought my Nikon f4 and for some reason, i never stock up on it when I. do my monthly purchase. (yes, I buy film every payday-like its dogecoin during its hype) I really want to meet new Caleb, or is it Kaleb or Kayleb? Meat Mountain, wow. The Ektar at the dixie and photos forward are so good. Love the colors! Also, the Leica child joke was good, don't let Jason downplay it. The clouds are really working in your favor here in these images on the way to Flagstaff. Wow. Abandoned! the pancake house is so cool! 800t also is fun to shoot in the daylight, I do it pretty often. Also, I love horses and taking their photos. Nothing better than a 2 lane blacktop road, am I right? Also, the music choice throughout this really accompanied the locations nicely. Love is key! Wow, that abandoned pool is so badass. Imagine an epic skate photoshoot in that pool. Tony Hawk comes out of nowhere and says " Hey! Want me to shred it for you?!" That camera lineup is pretty nice! Paid Product Placement for The Wild Way. I assume they pay you in love because if I connected the dots correctly, they're family. I appreciate the Kodak moment, or well.. Jason's close-up. I am only a real photographer 36 photos a year because well... I only shoot one roll of black and white a year. I am glad you confronted him. Always good to go with your emotions. F the new caleb, kayleb,Kaleb. Can't believe this is my first comment on the fanny pack. I need one. That chopped and lowered pickup at the old Texaco shop is a relic. You don't see people chopping and clamming trucks like they used to in the 90s. I choose the Tank7 adventure over cameras on black. A few Tank7's can make any night, a good night. I want to visit California. Someday, ill see that beautiful state and you, oh wait...I'm not stalking you. or am I? Okay, I thought, this new Kayleb bit is getting good. A nice little finish at Roys and then bam, you pull off the double shot that just adds the cherry on top.Well done, looks great and super real. Wish I knew what car that was,..lets google. No luck and really, it's probably a Edsel, Chrysler..maybe a Mercury. I don't know RIP Kayleb..... . ... ... .........
Haha who is… I mean … you might only watch that one … also sorry you lost all the comments … that sucks OH SHIT REALLY that is crazy! …. I wish I had a different flash with me! That bar was amazing! They wouldn’t let people swim there… so you are so right Yeah I feel you about the light thing but that’s awesome you hit some of the same places… we wanted to go to Joplin but that would have been too much backtracking Yeah again the lighting… totally at the mercy of time …. You should 100% go back! Like it was awesome. OH MY GOD loved that tire shot for realz like cray on the fav list… and feel you about the b&W but you know what … sometimes its phases of your life… you will get there someday haha Haha little Jason baby Yeah EKTAR IS THE DOPEST … new love …. stock up! Haha the new Caleb sucks! Haha I LOVEED the Leica joke… thanks man! And thanks for the love on those images… they are fun 100% want to go back to the pancake house! I really loved the music I picked… all the songs are suck in my head! FUCK YEAH TONY HAWK!!!!! Camera line up for days! SO SO GOOD Haha free product placement …. Her success is my success 😝 The real photographer shooting black and white was a funny inside joke that I kept in … Emotional rollercoaster for sure! DUDE fanny packs are dope… they hold so much! And when you want to be light they are great! Get one. TANK7 LYFE! …. do it Cali is here waiting for you! And it’s not stocking unless you have a shrine … so like … don’t tell me if you do . Yeah the other Caleb got what he deserves… or did he … bum bum bummmmm Who knows what is going to happen in the future! solid live tweet all around! You win the prize! 🥳
oh wow. at 17:15 I see that you have retrochrome. After seeing previous videos and shooting it myself, why did you buy it again? Maybe it was Jason video that didnt like it.
Just got my four prints from your Route 66 album at Darkroom and they are phenomenal! Absolutely love them. Everyone should be buying a couple of their favorites. Best wishes man.
Wow I didn’t know that you guys hit Kansas in the trip. I had seen Jason’s video but not your POV. I went exploring in Bushong KS this year and there is a massive abandoned school in that town. Maybe you saw it idk. you guys should check out if you ever come rolling through again!
I just looked back at our map. We saw the school and so wanted to go in but it had some no trespassing signs so we decided against it but it looks amazing!!!! Are you from around the area? I bet you got some awesome photos!
"Everything has to end just like Route 66" perfect Loved this, don't undersell the photos you took but absolutely agree that the best part of the photos is looking at them later, remembering the circumstances you went through etc eg on my recent trip I got a blurry photo of a tree and it sucks as a photo but I love it because of how I was standing in blistering weather while I took it Glad the two bros had a great trip, looking forward to your next adventure and wow that sure is a lot of film. Those rangefinders are dangerous lol Stray comment but the colors of the e100 on the whale looked a bit off to my eyes. I've seen it happen with a roll too, I wonder if that's just slight underexposure or scanning hmm
Aw thanks for the love for the video that means a ton! I’m glad you liked it! We definitely had a great time and I’m glad you are awaiting our never adventures… we are actually on a mini one now haha … As for the e100 that was my first roll in my m6 so I think I just need to know how to expose it in that camera … they are a bit dim haha
watching this video i decided to google the whale, and I realized I live an hour down highway 51 from the whale!! How exciting is that, I'm going to visit the location 3 iconic film celebrities have taken photos :)) also I love these long form videos because I can watch them over the course of a week and whenever I want to watch some quality content I know exactly what to watch
Thanks for the great videos ! Have you guys ever shot the ‘Kill Bill’ church out past Palmdale? We have shot that and Randsburg in the same day. On the way in to Kill Bill location, there’s a cool old ( formerly Neon ) sign for the town of Alta Vista. ( just don’t mention it to new Caleb, ) 🙂
Loving the extra long content. I know it takes a ton of time to get through all the footage so I def appreciate this. My only nitpic is way too many ads. They’re coming every 5minutes….can’t really get into a groove watching this with all the ads interrupting what you’re saying. Maybe tune down the amount in settings? 🙏🏾 Thanks again for the upload today!
Thanks for the love and you are right. So long…. And you know what the add thing is a good note. I edited it to have a nice flow. So I’ll go take some out. Didn’t think of that. Thanks so much!!! And regardless thanks for watching! I definitely appreciate it :)

@@BadFlashes Yeah, no hate, just an observation!! Great video!! Still have 20 min left that om saving!
No hate taken at all! ☺️
And I have to say it’s the best 20min 😉
Im glad you’re enjoying so far
Loved it!! I need moarrr
Oh damn!!!!! MORE????? 🤪🤯🥳🥰… ok
Like a movie !
It's really fantastic!
I didn't know the time was passing.
Thank you very much for your efforts.
Aw im so glad you enjoyed it and it felt like a movie movie that makes me happy :)
Big thumbs up on this one. What a great way to document the trip. Keep the great content coming, keep them beautiful cameras shooting
Aw thanks! I’m happy you liked it!!! And don’t worry. They will continue to flow 🥰
14:25 is one of my favorite photos from you
Ahhh no way!!! 😱😱😱 that’s so much!
I’m glad you like the pics :)
You should totally try to go down the Old Route 66 it’s so much fun!
Burn away yo!!!! It’s sad when things like that happen but I hope all is good now ☺️🤩🥳
What an achievement man! Feel good about this one, its great!
Thanks so much! I did pop a bit of my fav wine to celebrate! Hope you enjoy 😊
This took me 3 days of watching a bit then getting busy doing something else but I kept coming back! Love this video!! We took the route 66 trip as a family when I was a kid and this brought back so many memories!
Haha nice!!! Well I’m definitely glad you did finish it :)
I’m glad we were able to take you on a trip down memory lane ☺️
def test your cameras! i bought a voigtlander vitoret 110 before a trip and like 8 shots into the roll it just stopped advancing and i hadnt brought my kodak 110 camera so i just had a bunch of 110 film taking up space.
Oh noooo so sorry!!!! It’s always so sad when that happens :/
Route 66 is great!!!!!
Love the Tri-X at the end (Needles)
Awww thanks yo! I’m glad :)
(I'm a cinestill fanboy, don't hate readers)
Making this trip on rt66 from Joplin, Mo to ABQ last January for my 30th, many of these places you stop at look familiar but it was either, we didn't have the time, or the direct sunlight ruined any photo chances I wanted to take.
HAHA
So there are multiple reminders that I should shoot more ektar 100. It's one of the first rolls of film I shot when I bought my Nikon f4 and for some reason, i never stock up on it when I. do my monthly purchase. (yes, I buy film every payday-like its dogecoin during its hype)
I really want to meet new Caleb, or is it Kaleb or Kayleb?
Want me to shred it for you?!"
That camera lineup is pretty nice!
I don't know
RIP Kayleb..... . ... ... .........
Haha who is… I mean … you might only watch that one … also sorry you lost all the comments … that sucks
OH SHIT REALLY that is crazy! …. I wish I had a different flash with me! That bar was amazing!
They wouldn’t let people swim there… so you are so right
Yeah I feel you about the light thing but that’s awesome you hit some of the same places… we wanted to go to Joplin but that would have been too much backtracking
Yeah again the lighting… totally at the mercy of time …. You should 100% go back! Like it was awesome.
OH MY GOD loved that tire shot for realz like cray on the fav list… and feel you about the b&W but you know what … sometimes its phases of your life… you will get there someday haha
Haha little Jason baby
Yeah EKTAR IS THE DOPEST … new love …. stock up!
Haha the new Caleb sucks!
Haha I LOVEED the Leica joke… thanks man! And thanks for the love on those images… they are fun
100% want to go back to the pancake house!
I really loved the music I picked… all the songs are suck in my head!
FUCK YEAH TONY HAWK!!!!!
Camera line up for days! SO SO GOOD
Haha free product placement …. Her success is my success 😝
The real photographer shooting black and white was a funny inside joke that I kept in …
Emotional rollercoaster for sure!
DUDE fanny packs are dope… they hold so much! And when you want to be light they are great! Get one.
TANK7 LYFE! …. do it Cali is here waiting for you! And it’s not stocking unless you have a shrine … so like … don’t tell me if you do .
Yeah the other Caleb got what he deserves… or did he … bum bum bummmmm
Who knows what is going to happen in the future!
solid live tweet all around! You win the prize! 🥳
Oh dude, this is what I was waiting’s for!!
Yas!!!!! I’m so glad!
Wonderful film. Reminded me I needed to put in another order for some film. But I must admit, I loved the pronunciation of "Tucumcari".
Yeah!!!! Buy more!!!! And did I not say it right??? Hahaha
@@BadFlashes Generally New Mexicans pronounce it like "Too Come Carry" with the emphasis on the first syllable
Ahhhh ok. Next time I’ll get it right. haha
I am starting to see why grainy days seems a little tuckered out all the time. You are very energetic, lol. Great pair of videos!
We are like a Ying Yang …. Balance 🤣
Love that this is longer than your short film.
Hahahah right!!! Longer than all 3 put together.
Guh, finally geez, take forever. WOOHOO!
I know I know. But it’s here … hopefully worth it
oh wow. at 17:15 I see that you have retrochrome. After seeing previous videos and shooting it myself, why did you buy it again? Maybe it was Jason video that didnt like it.
Yeah I have a bunch of it!!!
I’ve never done a review on it before and Jason loves it … it has to be someone else. 🤷🏼
So good to watch ! what would it have been without the coffee ? This is a long format ! so much work here !
Definitely a ton of work haha
And I know the coffee helped a ton… always does haha
What a video, man. As I told you on Instagram, I really want to see that Leica review soon! I wonder, will you retire the Minolta?
Thanks!!!
And don’t worry. It’s in the works. :)
And who knows ….. crazy things can happen
Just got my four prints from your Route 66 album at Darkroom and they are phenomenal! Absolutely love them. Everyone should be buying a couple of their favorites. Best wishes man.
Ahhh i’m so glad you got the prints and love them! That makes me feel so good!!!!!!
Wow I didn’t know that you guys hit Kansas in the trip. I had seen Jason’s video but not your POV. I went exploring in Bushong KS this year and there is a massive abandoned school in that town. Maybe you saw it idk. you guys should check out if you ever come rolling through again!
Oh definitely!!!! It’s so on my bucket list
I just looked back at our map. We saw the school and so wanted to go in but it had some no trespassing signs so we decided against it but it looks amazing!!!! Are you from around the area? I bet you got some awesome photos!
After one week, I finally finished it. Awesome video man, can’t wait for the next one :).
Hahah awesome. I’m glad you were able to finish. That’s what counts hahaha
I’m happy you like the video 🚀🚀🚀
Oh baby! Just finished the other bloke's feature film and boom! Here's yours! (You know you are my favourite, right?)
Double feature!!!!!!!
@8:37 there's no body's but a scull though.
Epic! 🙌🏾 Watched til the end
Ahhhh so so glad!!!!
The night shots at the 50-51 minute mark were superb
Awwwww thanks so so much. Love those tooo :)
the blue swallow is probably one of the most iconic and photogenic places on 66.
Oh no doubt. That whole town is amazing
"Everything has to end just like Route 66" perfect
Loved this, don't undersell the photos you took but absolutely agree that the best part of the photos is looking at them later, remembering the circumstances you went through etc eg on my recent trip I got a blurry photo of a tree and it sucks as a photo but I love it because of how I was standing in blistering weather while I took it
Glad the two bros had a great trip, looking forward to your next adventure and wow that sure is a lot of film. Those rangefinders are dangerous lol
Stray comment but the colors of the e100 on the whale looked a bit off to my eyes. I've seen it happen with a roll too, I wonder if that's just slight underexposure or scanning hmm
Aw thanks for the love for the video that means a ton! I’m glad you liked it!
We definitely had a great time and I’m glad you are awaiting our never adventures… we are actually on a mini one now haha …
As for the e100 that was my first roll in my m6 so I think I just need to know how to expose it in that camera … they are a bit dim haha
You two should make a photobook out of this trip
Oh yeah that would be pretty cool! Love the idea
Old Caleb is the Best Caleb
Hahahaha thanks yo 😋🥰
wish i could double-thumbs up.
Ahhh me tooo … I know your intent ☺️🤩🥳
Been waiting on this one a while now! Poppin some corn and settling in >:)
Yas yas yas
Great effort. Certainly didn't feel like 90+ minutes. Cheers.
Awesome so glad!!! Thanks for tuning in
watching this video i decided to google the whale, and I realized I live an hour down highway 51 from the whale!! How exciting is that, I'm going to visit the location 3 iconic film celebrities have taken photos :))
also I love these long form videos because I can watch them over the course of a week and whenever I want to watch some quality content I know exactly what to watch
Oh hells yeah!!!!!! Photo time baby!!!!! Get it! That’s so awesome.
And I’m glad you like the long for stuff :)
Watching this from Australia 🤙
Australia!!!!!!!!
Yep we have :) twice hahahaha
love it
Tooooo kind
Epicness.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
7:02 You’re my everything.
🥰🥰🥰🥰 I’m so happy you like it so far!!!!
I want to get out there next year perhaps.
Oh yeah do it!!!!!!!!!!!
Oscar Goes to „ BAD FLASHES!“
Hahaha I mean I won’t turn that down.
Thanks 🙏 Caleb. This is awesome. So much in there, and it looks like an amazing trip. P.S. is that some MMMBop at 50:09? 😆
Hahaha glad you like the little singing
And glad you dig the episode 😊
Will New Caleb be back in future videos?
🤣 who knows …. 🤷🏼😉
I kinda wanna do the same thing, but with old Highway 99 up and down the West Coast.
Oh hells yeah. That would be dope!!! Totally do it!!!! 🤩
How in the hell do you guys get access to so much film!! I can only ever keep like 6 rolls in my fridge at a time, they go so fast haha
Good question! I think it is because we just can't stop ourselves hahah also we have to prep for long trips like this
How'd you guys manage to stay faithful to the route? I hear it's tough to follow in certain spots. Great video!
Aw thanks!!!
Google maps. Gettin off a some points to follow the original 66 … having a second person to navigate helps.
i respect your work. 1.5hr is nuts.
🤩🤩 thanks so much.
Great video, some amazing images 👌
Awww thanks. Gland you enjoyed.
Does new Caleb have a RUclips channel too? Great video! This a trip I really want to make some time.
Haha new Caleb has his ways apparently 🤣 … and you totally should make it happen !!!!
the shot at 1:31:11 is magnificent!
Ahhhhhh thanks so much. I think I’m feeling that one tooo! :)
best bro goals
And they keep getting better
Amazing video!! Makes me want to jump in my car and hit the road. I prefer the images you got on this trip. (Don't tell the other guy)
Do it!!!!! Get on the road it’s so liberating 😆
Thanks again for the upload today!
Thanks for the love and you are right. So long…. And you know what the add thing is a good note. I edited it to have a nice flow. So I’ll go take some out. Didn’t think of that. Thanks so much!!! And regardless thanks for watching! I definitely appreciate it :)
And I just checked…. The monetization algorithm put all the ads right up front 🤯 … thanks for the suggestion !
@@BadFlashes I know the ad views help contribute to film purchases and lab fees so I know how vital it is to your channel. Google just be tryna kill us though so that’s why I mentioned it. Thank you once again! Looking forward to more great content! 🙏🏾
Pan F seemed to be the best results. I haven’t shot it since the 80s though.
Hello. I watched your video several times. I like the way you did it and the music you chose. One question. At the wale you took two pictures of Jason. One in the wale, one outside of the wale. This two pictures have deep contrast and dark zones and somehow dark deep blue in it, but the skin tones are warm. With which camera and filters a.s.o. did you do this kind of pictures?
Awwww I’m so glad you dig the videos!!!!
I shot it on Ektachrome 100. That’s probably where all that goodness comes from :)
@@BadFlashes Thanx for your answer. Again and again I am astonished about the great pictures you two took with your analog equipment. 👍👍
Oh tooo nice. Thanks so much :)
so good. What's the strap in your Leica M6?
Clever supply
Oh sorry. Wrong video… I made this blue rope strap lol
Great so far! Curious how you guys navigated rt66?
Thanks!! We basically just used google maps the entire time. Stopping when we felt like it. :)
My dream, next year I will be touring it, I want you to be my guides, greetings from Argentina.
Oh that’s amazing!!!! Do it yo!
