  • ‪@PalmerPletschVideo‬ Watch this video of the hidden button placket from the book Fit and Sew Custom Jeans by Helen Bartley.
Meet author of Fit and Sew Custom Jeans by Helen Bartley and Palmer/Pletsch publisher Pati Palmer who designed a jeans pattern for Butterick. The book and the pattern show a new way to use the best size pattern for your fabric to get the fit you want. Then use their sewing order which includes fit. In this video Helen shows you an alternative to jeans fly front zipper, the button front jeans technique. Learn the difference between exposed and hidden button fly; how to make your own pattern pieces for the fly opening; interfacing and marking; sewing buttonholes; attaching placket fly facing; attaching fly protector; sewing front crotch seam to opening; and sewing buttons on last. Find the book at www.palmerplet... or the flipbook at palmerpletschd...

Excellent tutorial so clear and precise! Ladies, both of your jeans look nice. Now I need to add this book and the pattern to my “next Up” collection😊. Thanks for sharing

You will love the book. We did an update on the pattern and it is available on the Palmer/Pletsch website palmerpletsch.com. It is the update if the photo on the envelope is labeled as View A. I am doing a blog on the changes we made which will be out soon. Sign up on our website to get new blog announcements. Thanks so much!

This is such an amazing tutorial, do you have a recommendation for a press to install said buttons?

Helen Bartley did this tutorial and has written a book called Fit and Sew Custom Jeans. She shows the press in her book on page 15 as well as other button installation products. She calls it an industrial press but doesn't recommend a brand. You could write to her at Helen@seamdivas.com. The book covers everything jeans!! It's great. Took her 4 years to write!

    How about a skirt.

I would follow the same steps and the crotch topstitching the finished off the bottom of the fly will just be the center front seam of the skirt topstitched down in a mock flat felled seam.

Use the same instructions for a skirt.
