haha finally someone used the mouse lure here! so cool to see the trout actually hitting on the mouse for real! i always thought trout would never hit a lure larger than 2.5inch but that trout did not mess around for sure!

Hey mate. Trout love to hit the mouse there is a lake down in my neck of the woods that I fish with the mouse and have caught a few nice browns out of. So I thought why not give it a go at the canals and it paid off. I have noticed 9 times out of 10 it will be a brown trout hit it over the rainbows. Browns might be more aggressive, I'm not too sure. But I think everyone should give the mouse ago it's a fun experience to have.

Hey mate. No you don't need light on the mouse I find when it's really dark without moon light the mouse works really well. I only turn my head lamp on once I have hooked the fish. From what I understand trout can detect water displacement or movement with their lateral lines. I've also read some blogs and they suggest trout can almost see as good at night as they would at day time. The mouse works best around lakes with beach trees around it and when they are seeding. Umm I just egg roll and mouse fish up there I haven't caught a decent fish on a lure or soft bait. If you try the mouse fish the edges at Pukaki canal cast up the canal and try to match the flow back, (if it's flowing hard move down the canal) casting down stream back up slowly retrieve like 2-3 seconds for a full handle rotation on the reel. At the bowl I just cast it out and slow retrieve like a would with a normal lure. It took me awhile to start hooking fish up there but persistent is key.

@@jafethbarmentloo2509 good luck up there mate. If you do try the mouse don't get to excited and set the hook right away sometimes they will hit it with their tail to stun it, Then bite it you will feel the weight of the fish when it takes it.
