As a massive fan of Macross and the SDF-1's design i gave in and bought one a few days ago for $656 off ebay which i feel is still worth it considering alot of the other sellers want $1000 to $3000 for it. I own alot of big gundam model kits but nothing compares to this, its basically going to be my big display piece and prized possession lol Im just hoping it gets here fast and all intact from Japan.
Personally found that the runner parts and stickers really brought the toy alive. The few splashes of red made the rest of the minuscule color-scheme actually look intentionally military spartan instead of lazy from afar, and the added detail-work is just gorgeous up close Did take me most of a week-end while home sick, though, so it was quite the little time-sink.
So I just picked up this figure. It does seem that sticker number eight is made to fit the figure. However to fit properly it is supposed to go behind the city. I’m a bit nervous about attempting to open the leg as I do not know if the uncovered screws are enough to access the city. I fear there may be other screws involved that are hidden already. But I have measured it out and it would fit in the recess if the city can be removed.
The colors being kind of bland I think makes it look more military and less like a toy. Once pieces added from runner and stickers, makes it look even better. Great review.
I know this is a really old post, but I was lucky to acquire the regular version. I noticed that the mid section (in storm attacker mode) is kinda loose every time I try to extend the body upward. Is there sort of a lock that will hold the mid section in place?
Won this from a draft raffle contest last month (ended paying for only 10% of the sticker price). only opened to inspect the contents. Still needs to get a decent display cabinet for it to fit in. Might end up removing one of the 'floors' of that Ikea Detolf I'm looking at :P Liking the overall finish of it.
Didn't see you mention it but do the main cannons rotate outwards to expand the distance between them for firing? In the close ups, they look like they do but that could just be part seams.
Yeah, it kinda makes you wonder why the first transformation in the TV show caused such issues since it seems like the transformation wouldn't affect the legs much... but I guess things had to move around internally also.
In the show, Macross was in the main body. When the Zentradi enter the ship, it was through the ramming arm which means the travel distance was short. Also, the initial transformation opened panels on the body, which sucked out a few people not in shelters. And when the ship first returned to earth, it was in robot mode, and they opened the hatches. If the city was in the leg, there would be no hatch to open. And the fact the legs are also engines, rockets, and thrusters. If the city was in a leg, where would the fuel, or rocket components go?
In the movie, which this version of the ship is based off of, it's in the leg as seen. You can see it in the intro, which happens to be IMO an incredible opening for a movie. It's only surpassed by the incredibly rich animation. There are HD versions on this site where you can see all the marvelous detail.
There's a card that links to the transformation guide. I make them separate videos for people who don't want to hear me blathering and just see how to transform the toy. You can also find transformation guides in both directions and even a PDF of the instruciton manual here: anymoon.com/blog/?p=4389
sad arcadia did litterally nothing with this release, not giving us the damaged guns that yamato gave us with the kit version, no screwholes, no paintwork to make it really stand out
Own this I give it a 4.99999 out of 5.0! Why? F'ck Arcadia for not getting the decal scale right! And the adhesion was so crappy! Heck, even Ocean Designs made better decals! I'm ranting against the decal and not the awesome figure which really should have some added detail but hey, beggars can't be choosers( can't afford the special ed)!

shouldn't small scale macross called micross?
Sticker 8 is for the city. It looks like it would fit with some shaving, but you need some serious tools to positions it in there.
like he said, it was from yamato's prototype, alot bigger than the 1/3000
For some unknown reason I am not able attach the two arms even following the assembly guide. Why is it so tough to push the arms in.

I still want one...if I could only buy one.

The Matchbox SDF-1 had chest thrusters that you can pull out from the body. Exposing missile bays and so angle the booms that way.
Macross City was in the leg? I thought it was in the main body.

+ the size of the SDF1 never made real sence too me.

I’m guessing that the city was spread out throughout the ship. Being the main body and legs

Do you think we'll get a tv version of the Macross any time soon?
Kitz Concept had a prototype 1/2000 scale TV SDF-1 that they teased... it didn't look like it would be at this level of quality though.

Sorry, I don't run a toy store. Good luck on your hunt!
Will we be seeing a review of the crazy expensive (¥61,005) Arcadia premium finish 1/3000 SDF-1 when it comes out in april?
