Awesome score and video man! This is my new favorite thing to do... find budget instruments and see how great I can make them play, for the least expense.
I like Robin Haag's suggestion about finding the original owner. If it's a kid, that would be pretty cool. If they don't want it then I would find a local music school and see if there's a kid there who would like it. Great job, Sean!
Man Sean , I need to clean up the frets and fretboards on all of my guitars! Thanks for giving me an overdue kick in the ass. It would be cool to see the reaction if you took it back to the original owner. Just a thought. ✌👽👍🎸🎼🎵🎶🧠🌌♾
Holy shit!! Why can’t I ever find something like that in the trash…LOL what a score! I have been looking for a guitar like that to start my guitar learning quest if you decide to give it away! LOL. Love your videos man… please keep them coming!!!
The fit & finish on cheapo guitars must put off so many budding players, such a shame. I reckon a deserving beginner would love to have that now Sean :-)
Heck yeah! That is a fine guitar. I had to do more work to my brand new 100 dollar guitar to get it to play without buzzing all up and down the fretboard. Maybe donate it to a local school music program. I bet some young guitarist would love to have it. Not everyone that wants to play can afford an instrument. Tell you what, I'll even pay for the tuners. Great video! Thanks Sean!
Another great video, Shawn. You gave that guitar back the gift of life. Not alot of people would have seen what you saw in the trash can that day. Great job, brother!!!
Perfect guitar for someone just starting out. Thank you for rescuing the guitar. I have a number of low end guitar that I have modified to actually feel and play like high end guitars. It does not take a lot of work. I hate to see any instrument be destroyed or thrown away. Nice video, now find a kid with interest in playing and set him up. Maybe even throw in a cheap amp.
Thanks, brother. I just bought a new $150.00 Krammer guitar and it needs fret work...bad. I was going to send it back but after watching your video I think I'll order a set of those fret tools and fix it, myself. Awesome job on restoring that garbage can guitar, you gave it a new life. The guitar God's are proud.
Haha score. I've never found a curb alert for a guitar but I've found several lawn mowers hanging out on the curb that only needed the carburetor bowl cleaned out.
Hi Sean, I'm caring for moms in Cali, (she's 91 this year) and I scored an old Fender Pro Reverb on Craigslist but I got no guitar. So I found a guitar just like that, a little red Gio. Rosewood fretboard and lacquer finish. I was pleasantly surprised on how good it sounded. I really Enjoy your videos. Thanks so much for the entertainment!
I just bought an Ibanez guitar, a GRX40 which was advertised as 'rusted guitar, 3 string missing, not tested, meybe not working' at my local facebook market place. I paid just 15 dollars for it. I put it apart, cleaned, polished and waxed everything after soaking the rusted parts in vinegar for awhile. Then I put it back together set it up with a fresh set of Ernie Ball super slinky and a Temu tremolo arm (lol). I'm more than happy.
i wonder what would happen if you went back to the same house & returned it all fixed would that put a smile on the persons face that smashed it , free of charge all fixed up? i wonder about stuff like this..
Great video, loads of decent after market pups that won't cost you an arm and leg, since you put in decent tuners I would go with a small upgrade on the pups, Wilkinson is a good a choice, this was a great find,
Awesome video. I think you should strip the paint and scar that Guitar for real! Upgrade everything to match the tuner quality, then raffle it off and make a little cash for your work.
Gift it to someone that might not be able to afford one. Or go back to the house and get a back story on why it ended up in the trash in the first place. Nice video Sean.
My daughter is needing an upgrade from her Rouge 7/8ths guitar I shot a video for your previous thing. But at least she has a guitar so maybe someone’s who had to pawn theirs or sell for financial reasons.
Man I have learned so much from you. Yes I'm guilty I have the $100 squire I put in a set of nick bonafide pick-ups + the obsidian tuners. So now I have a $400 smoking hot guitar just need to learn how to play it. I will if the shoulder holds up. Thanks for all you do. Love the the knobs.
if the pickup sounds great it's okay no need to upgrade if i have that guitar i will just change the bridge pickup to a better humbucker like i did to my 10$ bought brownsville strat guitar it's an SSS config and i putted an epiphone stock humbucker on bridge but the single coil's still stock it sounds great
Bought that little tool kit that you had in there... I do like that fret tool better than the one I had previously... worth the cost just for the tool and then to get the fret rocker on top of it? We call that a winner.
Really enjoyed this video...I have a couple of old Gio's laying around here somewhere.....should probably fix em up and donate them to a boys and girls club, or veterans or something like that.
The Ibanez CIO I had in 2010 was probably the most solid electric I've owned; built like a tank. If the neck had been more comfortable I'd still have it today. It was more solid and reliable than the $1000 guitars I had at the time.
I had one of that series once -bought it cheap, played it for a while, then sold it cheap, because it didn't suit my style very well. I regret having sold it so cheap, but then I regret every guitar I ever sold. Ibsnez makes really good guitars, sometimes they're inexpensive, but still good. Never turn down a trash guitar - it can be a wall hanging, if nothing else. One isn't always as lucky as you were, though. I have more luck with finding bicycles in the trash than guitars - they're both items I love to have around.
Brother that is an identical gio i have right now, every item you fixed is my guitar right now. Im hoping to fix it but other then the pick ups they are fun guitars. Mine is used with a flame maple neck.
If you're gonna do a giveaway,go back to where you found it and get the story behind why it was thrown out. Maybe it was a beginner who got frustrated because it played and sounded like crap. They might appreciate it now that it's fixed and plays better.
I loved this video. Say what you will about Gios, but I love them. I have this same model (GRX40) in black, and I just played a full 3 hour gig with it, doing dive-bombs and everything and it only needed minimal tuning throughout. I have other, higher-end RGs, and playability-wise, I'd pit the Gio against them.
How much did Ibanez pay u for that post...lol... . I know what you're saying people get so caught up on the names and being gear snobs that they think they can't get the job done on a basic guitar I don't know how in the world you manage to hold gig with dive bombs on a set of standard tuners though that's pretty awesome if you did that by the way I was joking about the post I've got a couple low end guitars too that play really really well with a little bit of love ivel given them..but still don't think I'll ever duve bomb for 3 hours on a gio live...lol...Rock on dude
I bought a $15 'RC propeller bit' that goes from 8MM to 10MM and use it in a small drill press to make 10MM diameter deep-enough holes from the rear of the headstock and then installed a set of $25 Wilkinson tuning machines. Easy to do ...
One thing I would have done differently is to perform a full fret job. I did that with a Peavey Raptor Plus EXP I rescued from a pawn shop, and it made a LOT of difference! I was also able to replace its bridge with a brass and steel unit, which improved the tone so much that I'm loathe to replace the pickups. The stock, cheap ceramic pups sound so good now that I can't bring myself to put in the Alnicos I bought for the purpose! I keep telling myself, "I don't want better tone ... I want THAT tone!" That would be hard to do on that Ibanez; my experience with them is that they make so-so upgrade platforms. Too many nonstandard parts.
Hello Shawn, thank you very much for saying thanks for us watching your videos, that was very cool of you to acknowledge that to everyone.anyways I need a good guitar now days. I have a really old court stratt, that plays like crap.and the fretts are just run down.how much would you want for the guitar you just made into a nice playing instrument.. please let me know man,I would really appreciate it.Steve.
I appreciate your videos. A lot of the cost of a guitar is in the hardware. A lot more seems to be in the fit and finish. You know the eye candy effect. With the trend in relicking IMHO the finish isn't as important as it once was.
theres a guy in zephyrhills calls himself f and d customs he 's got an ibanez gio with a few perks on it asking $500 bucks looks like you found a little side cash
LOL I'm 2 years late but take it back home... haha and on that note I have some old cheap Ibanez I took apart and its sitting some where. Guess I should give it some life.
You had me at “guitar” and “trash”.
fuck yeah
Thanks for watching guys!
I enjoy making these videos with Sean, and we hope you all enjoy watching them! 💖
Keep it up. This channel is like an undiscovered diamond planet in a distant galaxy 😁🤘

Cool! You running from the dog was hilarious! Nice rehab! Hoping some people learn how to do the simple repairs from this! 😊👍
Man Sean , I need to clean up the frets and fretboards on all of my guitars! Thanks for giving me an overdue kick in the ass.
It would be cool to see the reaction if you took it back to the original owner. Just a thought.
✌👽👍🎸🎼🎵🎶🧠🌌♾
Nice find and demo of the restoration /repair . So many guitars need some TLC like this . I'm sure you'll find someone who'll appreciate it .
You should definitely donate to a viewer! Gios are pretty dang fine guitars! Especially now that's its all scarred up!
Nice work Sean, there must be a school or something nearby that you could donate it to. Nice to see a guitar being saved!👍
Ooohhh GIGGY !!!! Maybe make a list of those that need one then random pick the winner 🤘
Great find and Fix!!! Do not knock GIO's. They are cheap, play great (at least mine does) and easy to upgrade if needed.
Awesome VIDEO!!
Man I wish I could find guitars in the trash! 😀🤘
Take it back to the kid who threw it away saying, "let that be a lesson son, if it aint trash, don't throw it away"!
That would be cool to bring it back. Might be a kid that got frustrated and threw it out
RightOn Bro. BOOM.
Sweet restoration, that axe has been through rough times
Holy shit!! Why can’t I ever find something like that in the trash…LOL what a score! I have been looking for a guitar like that to start my guitar learning quest if you decide to give it away! LOL. Love your videos man… please keep them coming!!!
Best thing to do with that guitar is GIVE IT TO ME!
Rainy day in South Texas but got my fix of Scar My Guitar, it’s a good day.
The fit & finish on cheapo guitars must put off so many budding players, such a shame. I reckon a deserving beginner would love to have that now Sean :-)
Your repairing skills are much better than your counting skills. I count a lot more than 4 tools as stated in the beginning of the video. :) Rob
Ahahah...ya got me!!

Another great video, Shawn. You gave that guitar back the gift of life. Not alot of people would have seen what you saw in the trash can that day. Great job, brother!!!
I appreciate that!
save it for a Christmas gift! one gift off the list!😂
Do another one of those Scar My Guitar video sweepstakes in the style of Pimp My Ride like you did with the Explorer style guitar a few years back.
IT LIVES!
Give it to somebody who really needs it and will take care of it. That Ibanez has a history and sounds of wisdom.
Cool! Looks like a Lucy

Nice find, I’d give it to someone that needs it 🤘🏼
Man that turned out to be a really nice guitar sounds good too man great job I knew if you got a hold of it you'd bring it back to its former glory
Really informative video . You do a great job of explaining things .
Glad it was helpful!
That rosewood is gorgeous. It looks like my 1000 bucks american stratocaster's.
I love your, go for it diy style with minimal tools and zero BS.
Thank you!

You know what to do, Sean.
Mr. Scar, It is amazing that People throw away Good Stuff, Great Video here Man, Cousin Figel
give it to someone who needs a good guitar! i kinda need one lol :)
Thanks Sean, guitars n Guns sent me on the zebra wood build but the fret job lesson was priceless, adds a whole dimension to my game.
Haha score. I've never found a curb alert for a guitar but I've found several lawn mowers hanging out on the curb that only needed the carburetor bowl cleaned out.

Amazing, man! Incredible job as always. 👍🏻 My son is 13 & wants to learn how to play. This would be the perfect first guitar for him!
i wonder what would happen if you went back to the same house & returned it all fixed would that put a smile on the persons face that smashed it , free of charge all fixed up?

Love the the knobs.
That was a good " Finders Keepers" you did a real fine job.
That's like a double score! Nice!
An old friend of mine saved a Japanese Takamine acoustic from the dumpster. He called it the trash can guitar. Rest easy Don. Miss ya buddy
Thanks!
Excellent. Enough said. Thank you.

Great job. It's always good to rescue the homeless guitar. Hang on to it. It'll soon be worth a lot as one of your repairs. Mongrel dogs are cool.
