Just to clear up any issues or thoughts about the flight. London City is what is known as a Catergory C airport. This means that it is heavily restricted, this can be due to the type of approach, terrain nearby, height of runway or in this case; length. In London City's case it is a short runway. Therefore things like air temperature can affect this as there will be less lift for the aircraft or a wet runway as the aircraft takes a longer distance to stop. The aircraft they fly (the Embraer E-jet series aircraft) are perfectly adequate at conducting operations in and out of City as they have fantastic short runway performance. In perfect weather this is not and issue, but they do sit right on the boundary between not being able to go there. So this means that when anything outside of the norm happens, weather wise, to the area they normally can't operate. I understand that after recent events with United everyone is citing that they overbooked the aircraft, they didn't. They just booked it for a clear day. This is business, they need to make money. I know it's an awful thing to do but weather is an awful thing. I understand some people will get annoyed with the airline as they should always fill the aircraft to presume the worst but then they would only be operating half full aircraft. If anyone has any genuine questions, feel free to reply!! Love your videos Sam, keep them up!!
flyingmikey finally someone else who knows what they are talking about. I was going to try and explain V1wet/Perf A and why removing 1T of bags and passengers for a tiny aircraft/tiny runway is not unreasonable (unfortunate though!) but from some of the comments above it would be a waste of effort...
Mhm, a plane that cost millions and a airport that cost billions to make, can't meet demand due to some treacles of rain and some overweight passengers, wow.........
Despite popular public opinion airlines aren't as sinister as people like to think. Just to put this into perspective, London City airport has a runway length of 1508m. Compare that to Heathrow whose runways are around 3900m, so it really is short. Embraer who make the E190 aircraft Sam was due to fly on quote that in ISA conditions (International Standard Atmosphere), with full passengers for a 500NM trip the aircraft needs 1267m to get airborne. So when you start talking about a wet runway regardless of how wet it is, which is where legality comes into it there is a penalty to how much distance you need. From memory its something like a factor of 1.3 which makes that distance of 1267m into a distance of 1647m, so more than the length of their runway. Then considering that Ibiza is about 800NM or so they would need more fuel to make the distance of the trip which adds more weight,. My guess would be around a tonne of fuel (I think the E190 Burns just under 2 tonnes an hour) all adds precious meters onto the takeoff roll. So to me losing 10 passengers which is about a tonne of weight when their bags are taken into account considering the standard weight for a male is around 85kgs in aircraft performance seems pretty reasonable. It all comes down to safety in the end.
Watch James May's Head Squeeze - why can't trains go uphill. It explains briefly that trains genuinely can't run when there is snow or leaves on the track. It's interesting :D
What if the same happened you in a restaurant and waitress tells you that, "I'm sorry, we already sold your potatos to John. But don't worry, taxi is waiting for you. It will drive you to McDonalds."
Just recently you were like you're missing out on many private things like weddings and stuff because of RUclips work and now I was like it happend again. Glad you made it and showed you're a really kind Person!
Sam, long-time sub stopping by to say thank you for the videos that you have provided. I joined the seen through glass family when you were contemplating the 4c or TT. I found your channel during a very tough time in my life. Your positivity, charisma, enthusiasm and overall drive for life has had such an amazing impact on my life. The channel has pushed me to continue to chase my dreams and press through difficult times. Thanks to you and a few other tubers I am in such a better place. People ask me why I am so into automobiles. It is not the automobiles that really do it for me but the automobile community...the people. TY for all that you do Sam and have a great week - mike
DinneR I've flown united all my life and never had a problem. Just because of one or two flights out of hundred of thousands, there's people who think it's bad. It's a shame people are so single minded.
I was joking. I've flown United before too and it was okay. However, I think United deserve all the shit they've been getting for what they did to that poor guy.
STG! You've got a complete package here. Watching your content is effortless for me as your viewer because it's so well refined! Those tunes over the transitions, that camera control and video quality, and your presentation skills fam... Just one word... FLAWLESS! #Keepwinning Sam
Sam I feel your pain. I'm a retired airline pilot. We aren't happy with such occurrences but they are beyond our control. Not the airport decision, it's based on each aircraft manufacturers operating manuals. On such short runway, with inclement weather we have restricted performance calculations that max out to a certain weight. Normally we, US Airways was who I flew for, would remove bags instead of pax but it's each airlines discretion. Sorry for the troubles!
oh rain! who could've guessed that it would be raining in london in april! what a shocker amirite? some people can't look more than 1 minute ahead of themselves.
Glad to see you handled it calmly and they at least tried to get you there. It's happened to me before (in the States, never Europe) and it is very frustrating, but it can be made better or worse depending on how the staff handles it.
Sounds like a pretty BS excuse, its not like it was a surprise to them that they fly out of London City Airport if your flight was booked to depart from London City Airport.
the runway has always been that length and the plane has the same amount of power whatever the weather so saying the weather is the reason to kick people off is a lie, in fact cooler weather give more power as the air is more dense
Sam, really glad you shared this. Absolutely appalling service from British Airways, hate to say it but Easyjet get all my short haul business currently. It's disgusting they decide to throw people off based on what price was paid, should not sell at different prices. It's no way to run a business. Clearly they should not sell a full plane if the runway has or could potentially have issues. They are as bad as Delta.
The whole air-transport industry is so flawed. You have to arrive at the airport hours before a flight, flights get overbooked so often, you can't take a schedule for granted when you are flying, etc etc etc. The whole system needs to be revolutionized. It's 2017 FFS.
Technically, when you buy a plane ticket, its a guarantee to get there within 24 hours of the ticket you buy. Like Sam said, they kick people off by the fair price and check-in time. They also reimburse people quite well for volunteering to take another flight and treat you quite well. Wish that could have turned out better for you Sam!
I like to see those "not too over processed videos where you know there's a group of people behind the camera but still the person on screen acts all alone" vlogs. :)
I was on a Heathrow to Leeds British Airways flight last week, seriously thought the plane was going to fall apart at the wing, looked 20 years old, I think the plane was older than the pilots!
Oh mate that sucks! I hate the fact that they kept offering times that were clearly no good. That would have really pissed me off! I dunno know how you kept your cool...
The glamour of air travel eh ? , probably why I haven't been on a plane for 10 years, don't miss it one bit, really enjoyed that sam something different.
Short runway and rain 😂😂😂. Imagine it raining in the U.K.!!! They must throw off a shit load of passengers over the course of the year. Complete and utter bollocks
Mate. Since BA messes me around last year I will never use them again. Their customers service was appalling and they left us sat on a plane for 5 hours before a trip to Thailand. Then they refused compo until I complained to the CAA. After seeing this video there is no way I'd fly from London City. Why risk being kicked off a flight because it's raining. Thanks for the heads up.
A Juke on STG? lol. At least you weren't already on board when they called your seat. And I agree, picking 10 as the number to kick off seems strange. Almost like they wanted to kick the team off and it would have been too obvious to kick 9.
Funny the airline says it's not there fault...I guess someone stole part of the runway that morning. Otherwise they would have been aware of the issue...and booked 10 less seats on that flight every time....
Just to clear up any issues or thoughts about the flight. London City is what is known as a Catergory C airport. flyingmikey Drizzle in London is ten people and their baggage "outside of the norm"?
flyingmikey Good info but to be fair they did overbook the flight for the weather conditions, that's why they had to kick people off.

So learn from this Sam. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER FLY TO A WEDDING ON THE SAME BLOODY DAY AS THE WEDDING !!!!!!
Martin Oberg - Man's busy
There was another flight earlier than this one that had space. Why did he book the last available flight and leave no wriggle room at all?
that's what I thought. Why not fly in the evening before?
He's working mate.
There was a flight 40 minutes before the one he took. It had space. If you have to get there, you have to have a plan B.
In the UK,
Trains cannot run because there are leaves on the line.
Aeroplanes cannot take off because the runway is wet.
Da Ca Yeah, I saw that too. People that tried to get the swan off the tracks got shouted at by the staff.
Da Ca in finland the trains runs over mooses and deers. sometimes the train is very bloody
here in australia we run over kangaroos and keep going.. even if there are leafs are on the track
Watch James May's Head Squeeze - why can't trains go uphill. It explains briefly that trains genuinely can't run when there is snow or leaves on the track. It's interesting :D
Why not kick off the ten heaviest passengers..😂
Mabb 40 that would mean they only had to kick off like 5-6 people
Mabb 40 they cant ,they would get sued big time for discrimination
Looool Savage man XDD
Mabb 40 in that case they'll probably only need to kick off 5 heaviest passengers 😅
Good idea.
The British airways probs think your a cheap skate but have no idea you own a Mclaren 😂
Mr BB 'on finance' lol
Mr BB should've just said "but I own a mclaren"
ASH BRYANT NO ONE BUYS SUPERCARS OUTRIGHT HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU NEED TO BE TOLD
Ash Bryant he and his family are filthy rich
Well some people do

Thank god you didn't fly United
DinneR I've flown united all my life and never had a problem. Just because of one or two flights out of hundred of thousands, there's people who think it's bad. It's a shame people are so single minded.
I was joking. I've flown United before too and it was okay. However, I think United deserve all the shit they've been getting for what they did to that poor guy.
DinneR it was the airport security not united. They were just following protocol
United will be the butt of all airline jokes for ever.. over here in the u.s. if you want a nonstop across the country you'll be on united...
DinneR I didn't see Sam resisting kicking and screaming. Also this was dealt with at the gate, not on the plane.
The runway problem they know for ages..
Am i the only person who thinks that Sam should have 1 million subs?
Florian Schulz probably
yeah, i think you are.
Nah, more like 10 mil
he deserves it !!!
the cinematography & edits are top notch
Almost like Casey Neistat quality!!
Love this guy! So down to earth! To be honest, I would have flipped if it was me getting kicked off, well done for keeping you're cool Sam!!👍🏼

#STGvlogs are great!! Keep up the good work, Sam!! 🔝

despite of that bad experience your filming was amazing!
the runway has always been that length and the plane has the same amount of power whatever the weather so saying the weather is the reason to kick people off is a lie, in fact cooler weather give more power as the air is more dense
jay b but having a strong crosswind component or strong wind gusts would mean the rotation speed would be higher and therefore need a longer runway.
I like these Vlogs! Keep them coming!
You should have let them beat you up so that you don't need to lease your mclaren anymore after you win the law suit 😂
dude you were real chill about this, my father would have had two aneurysms by the time we got to the desk to get an explanation. good on you!
The vlog/car content spilt on this channel is perfect
Love the change of pace here, real!
Enjoyable trolling sir
Hello from New Zealand Sam! Keep up the great videos mate :)
Sam, really glad you shared this. Absolutely appalling service from British Airways, hate to say it but Easyjet get all my short haul business currently. It's disgusting they decide to throw people off based on what price was paid, should not sell at different prices. It's no way to run a business. Properly impressed with how chill you were about this - I would have LOST MY SHIT 😂
Handled like a gentleman and a pro.! Well done sir.
Credits to you for acting as a gentlemen.
It might be that they had no good faith in transporting a drunken stagg party.
Woah this is hard work... STG FTW when it comes to content
Appalling - you remained very calm !!! ... being kicked off, and being called a cheapskate 😂
Good on you sam for keeping your chin up through this! #respect
Good decision Sam. Friends and family are always more important.
Short runway my ass. Overbooked flight it seems. Sam, you're the man for not making a fuss about it. I certainly know I would
I like everything STG makes. keep it up
At least you didn't get dragged off by your arms! Hope they compensated you
Took it like a champ mate.
Keep up the winners attitude! I'm sure your mate will understand!
Well done for remaining calm Sam, just shows you don't need to angry in a pretty rubbish situation like that.
Travel vlogs are always interesting!
i think 20% vlog 80% cars is optimal for this format. just like what someone has said, don't turn into salomondrin
Do more travel vlogs like this pls! :D
More travel vlogs Sam, loving the videos!!
Very commendable that you still went 👍
The whole air-transport industry is so flawed. You have to arrive at the airport hours before a flight, flights get overbooked so often, you can't take a schedule for granted when you are flying, etc etc etc. The whole system needs to be revolutionized. It's 2017 FFS.
So unfortunate, but at least you got to make a video about the experience I guess 😂
Saw the title of this vid and thought "is he flying on United Airlines?" heheh.
Sorry to hear you got kicked off Sam. Hope you had an enjoyable night though
Great video Sam, as much as I love cars it’s nice to see you vlogging not related to cars lol
Unfortunate, Sam. I would've lost my mind, props to you for keeping a cool head. Especially, since this was for a friends wedding.
Good on you Sam, I'm sure your pal will appreciate it!
Cheers.
How the fuck does a short runway mean people need to get off xD
Josh_ Wright less weight means a shorter distance for the plane to take off
it's bullshit, they overbooked the flight
it's technically not bullshit, but yeah I'm sure it was overbooked.
Yeah, it's a shitty excuse, they overbooked the flight
No, the runway is actually very short at London City
The advert that came up on this video was for British airways ahahahahha
These things happens due to MTOW then when you add in adverse weather and small aircraft , these things happen. Not BA faults ...
love the vlogs as a mix up
Loving the vlogs!!! You should start another Seen Through Vlogs Channel on here so you could do daily vlogs!
Very laid-back.
Even though I own a McLaren "I'm a cheap skate" lol 😂 😂
Anyway, they should have a longer runway as they should know the British weather
The thing is British airways don't even operate these aircraft they just pay another airline to put their livery on the aircraft and cabin crew
Love the travel vlog my favorite
sorry about that Sam .... damn airports😥😥
BA kicking off the passenger that can broadcast to 250,000 subscribers 😂😂PR fail
Fair play for making the wedding many others would have just not gone.
Different type of video, still interesting to watch "a day in the life of.... "
I wonder what was more surprising: the short runway, rain in England in May or the fact that everyone booked onto the flight actually turned up...
You should have said ...
"Look I have a mclaren"
-25A?
-That's me.
-We are sorry, you can't join this flight.
-Why?
-Weight reduction bro ...!
U got SVIPE 😂😂
This vlog has a Casey Neistat flow to it, I love it!!
How come this has only just started to come to light that this happens, absolutely shockinf
I was on a Heathrow to Leeds British Airways flight last week, seriously thought the plane was going to fall apart at the wing, looked 20 years old, I think the plane was older than the pilots!
I like these vlogs as much as the cars
Hey Sam great video
At least you didn't fly with united, everyone knows how their overbooked flights end...
BS they oversold tickets. Sue them or don't fly with them any more, they F you up!
I would be furious if I were you mate, that's outrageous. I thought nobody flies BA anyway.
That's why I always go the day before any event (if possible)... but that was really weird to remove ten passengers.
Hey that's understandable. There's no way on earth they could've known how long the runway was going to be that day
So as someone who has never flown yet, has this always been a thing they do or is it just a recent thing?
Short runway and rain 😂😂😂. Imagine it raining in the U.K.!!! They must throw off a shit load of passengers over the course of the year. Complete and utter bollocks
British Airways really need to sort their shit out😂
Wow what are the flipping chances YOU'D be the one they numbered. Oh well, I guess you got the best ticket deal LOL.
A+++ music game as always too
it wasn't even clickbait ;)
You got class for not getting upset
A Juke on STG? lol. At least you weren't already on board when they called your seat. And I agree, picking 10 as the number to kick off seems strange. Almost like they wanted to kick the team off and it would have been too obvious to kick 9.
Hope you had a #lovely #party 🎉🎉🎉 #BritishAirways 🇬🇧🇯🇪 ✈️💺 it was a little bit sad.
Very rude situation Sam, you are a very cool guy wow 😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲
I've never seen such a pissed off banana @3:15 😂🍌
Horrible, feel for you mate. Glad you didn't miss all of the wedding
+Seen Through Glass
If I were you,I would freakin start shouting at them
£50 in notes slipped into your passport would have sorted it.
how much did they compensate you with and i hope that included taxi snd all other expenses
Funny the airline says it's not there fault...I guess someone stole part of the runway that morning. Otherwise they would have been aware of the issue...and booked 10 less seats on that flight every time....
