Hey Cliff, Thanks for sharing this useful info for enabling Hart comms. Surprised not to find this in AB catalogues. It would be great if you can explain the basic of your lab setup and gadgets used for troubleshooting communications.
Saravana Shanmukham I’m glad you could make use of this video! We have HART communicators, Fluke 123 Scopemeters and Fluke 725 Process Calibrators that all are very helpful for troubleshooting communications with HART devices.
Hi Clifford, I have 1756-IF16H and giving only 4-20mA by process meter, without any HART connection. But when I go in Run mode, it does not show any value in Studio 5000. And it is showing errors as follows: IO_Network_Rack_03:2:I.AnalogGroupFault, IO_Network_Rack_03:2:I.CalFault, IO_Network_Rack_03:2:I.Ch00BrokenWire, IO_Network_Rack_03:2:I.Ch00CalFault, IO_Network_Rack_03:2:I.Ch00Fault, IO_Network_Rack_03:2:I.Ch00HARTFault, IO_Network_Rack_03:2:I.Ch00Underrange Please suggest, how to calibrate each channel.
Hi CLifford. I have and 1794-IF8IH module and i can't seem to pull any HART data from HART capable instrument on one of my modules. The other modules are working just fine. Module is configured to pull Analog and HART data. Any ideas why is this happening? Tried to swap the module on the same slot but that didn't help.
Wren-2992 If it’s easy to do, I would try wiring the HART device to a card that’s working to make sure it’s not a wiring issue out to the device or the device it’s self.
@@AutomationCliff Thank You for reply. I tried it and concluded that there are no wiring or field instrument issues present. It seems that configuration on this module is not quite right as it refuses to pull any Hart data. Although its configuration looks similar to configuration from other modules. I need to dig deeper into manual. Maybe I missed some checkboxes :)
Wren-2992 Okay, good luck! I’m curious to hear what the issue was if you end up figuring it out? If wiring is good, it’s the same model, configuration is the same and it’s been downloaded I’m not too sure... You could try calling Rockwell as well.
@@AutomationCliff Hello Clifford! We solved this case. All we need to do was set variable 'HartDisable' to zero in studio 5000 and then power cycle the IF8IH module. We ejected and then installed again the module while power was on. We put bypasses in place before we did that and never disrupted our process.
Patrick David No, but you will probably need to remove the 1756-IF8H module from your project in Studio 5000 (RSLogix 5000) and re-add it. When you re-add it you would set it up for HART. This should all be able to be done while online with the controller (processor) and not require a complete download of the project to the controller.

You’re welcome!
VERY GOOD . . . THANKS
No problem! Thanks for tuning in!

Very Good.
If the module was setup originally just to poll data without HART and then we changed it to add HART, will that require a total download of processor?
