This *might* be the scene where Jack fully understands what it's like to the Doctor, all that guilt. It also should've been the scene where Torchwood ended, for good. Nothing after this series has really felt earned. Children of Earth seemed very final to me.
this is the final scene in my head
Yea
Especially the line "I have lived many lives"
I agree with you. *_Children of Earth: Day Five_* is the _real end_ of *_Torchwood._*
i think this is also when Jack understood why the doctor hates him just as much as he loves him.
Jack is basically a mirror to the Doctor and the doctor doesn't like anyone that reminds him of himself.
Jack: The whole word is like a graveyard”
Doctor: “you know what this place is, it’s a battlefield, and it’s empty because everyone else has fallen”
Now Jack truly understands the life of an Immortal and the pain it brings
It‘s: a life this long. It‘s a battlefield. And it‘s empty, cause everyone else has fallen...
which episode did the doctor say that quote? and which doctor?
@@nivaneh1010 twice upon a time, 12th
Doctor: Life is an empty battlefield for me. Painful, hah.
Doctor: Oh, poor Ashilda, what have I done to her. Immortality is shit.
Also Doctor: Jack Harkness who? What? That wrong guy? I don't care you know
@@elly_hermione that's the thing the doctor himself when Jack was a big part of his life had massive vanity issues and had retreated into a facade of selfishness because trauma of the time war was too much for him to take. the doctor only really started to understand what he and rose did to jack around the 12th doctor era.
the fact that they play owens theme to show jack is still grieving him a whole season after his death.... its genius and it also kills me 😭
They also played Tosh's theme as well! 😭
Eve Myles is brilliant in this scene which is no surprise but John Barrowman’s performance is on an unrecognizable level in regards to his character. Here he is not a flirtatious, eccentric, and bombastic traveller but a grieving guilt ridden pioneer. His soft voice here is chilling to the bone and I LOVE IT.
We can all agree this is a better ending than Miracle Days awful cliffhanger.
Prepare to cleanse your eyes, lads, cos Miracle Day clips are being posted soon. 🤮
Stephen Murphy oh god why did you have to remind me
I thought it was quite interesting plot wise
the miracle day cliffhanger wasn't awful... it just needs to be expanded on
I doubt Russell's other idea for an ending would have gone down much better.
I’m glad he mentioned Suzie. I didn’t think he would considering everything she did.
As a man who has ran from his own past this scene hits hard. There is really nothing anyone can tell you to stop yourself.
What did you run away from?
What stopped you?
You are here, now. All you can do is strive to be the best version of you, for others and most importantly for yourself.
the WAY the music changes in this scene gets me every damn time. When Jack's talking about all those who have died, Ianto's theme plays (ow) but as soon as he mentions Owen's name, it seamlessly changes into Owen's theme, and ughhh i cry every time, just WOW
The *real* ending to Torchwood. 😭
Andrew Hsieh miracle day was good maybe ending could of been better but still good
Dp.slayer and on big Finish lol
I still think the end of Series 5 "Aliens Among Us" by Big Finish is my personal ending for Torchwood, ties off the story of Jack and Gwen nicely.
@@kylebarbour3532 miracle day was pretty awful all round in my opinion, they basically destroyed they're own premise of immortality within the first few episodes
Yeah I hated miricale day
fun fact - there is a BBC audio drama called House Of The Dead which takes place im assuming not long before this moment, in which Jack sees Ianto again as a "ghost" and yes, it is as painful as you imagine..
Some people say running away doesn't solve anything. But, Captain Jack leaving Earth is Jack's way of dealing with what happened and all the people and he has to take responsibility for what's happened and those who died because of him.
Sometimes, it's not about solving anything. Sometimes, you just need to disengage.
This should’ve been Torchwoods true ending for many reasons.
1. Miracle Day was a terrible season that we’ll never get a proper conclusion to since it ended on a cliffhanger.
2. It would’ve matched up perfectly with the bar scene Jack was in near the end of the End of Time episode where he sees the doctor for the last time (unless he appears again in the new seasons) and meeting Alonso.
3. Gwen would’ve gotten a better ending with her and Rhys living happy together with their child, rather then go into hiding and have Gwen be all Alice from the Resident Evil movies
In the Doctor Who universe, you know something will *never* get explained if Big Finish don't mention it (seriously, they could have explained that when Torchwood season 5 was released by Big Finish).
Jedi Spartan 38 they may not have the rights to use the characters though (similar to how they can’t use the characters from the TV movie) considering that Miracle day was co-produced with Starz
@@EditedAF987 good point.
Honestly I’d recommend Series 5 and 6 on Big Finish. It doesn’t solve the cliffhangers from Miracle Day (and it forgets it entirely for good reason) but it’s a great continuation that combines the standalone stuff from Series 1 and 2 as well as the overarching stories in CoE and Miracle Day.
janto foever
This is how Torchwood should have ended.
Stephen Murphy miracle day is brilliant but ending could of been better
i cry every time ianto and everyone else’s themes start playing
I think in this scene jack finally understands the doctor life, the choices, the guilt watching those he cares about move on/die it's really hard so I'm not surprised he left again.
It’s awesome that we hear Owen’s theme when he gets mentioned.
This would have been the ideal place to leave Torchwood on a cliffhanger - Gwen and Rhys settled down and pregnant, Jack travelling and Torchwood ceasing to desist.
Then one day, they’d bring it back with old cast members or bring in new people.
I hate Torchwood didn’t get what it deserved. Should’ve been many seasons...many episodes.
So much potential...all gone.
But really, this is the actual Torchwood ending to most people's hearts instead of the crap collaboration with Starz to make Miracle Day.
It's stuff like this where I hope whomever the future writers of this show may be, that they see this, and kick some serious television industry ass when their day comes and there will be a resolution.
IsiahTomas Thats very true facts!
I honestly don't think it would've worked either way. What made Torchwood extra special was the direct ties to Doctor Who, and after Moffat took over, it was very clear Doctor Who was no longer going for the expanded universe sort of formula. The events of Miracle Day weren't even mentioned in Series 6 of Doctor Who, and Miracle Day itself felt very separated as a result, so more series wouldn't have worked. Maybe if Chibnall is interested (which I'm certain he is), we might get a new series of Torchwood that directly ties into the newest Doctor Who episodes. I don't know, I just wish we could go back to those days of spin-offs and crossovers. People are beginning to forget how good we had it back in the RTD Era.
This!!! This is when Jack became a 'spacelord'. Everything he said really echoed things the doctor has said. And where is the doctor travels throughout time, Jack is forced through his immortality to live through space.
This is why Jack is the best companion. He is tragedy wearing comedy's mask.
He is a fixed point. He is. He will be.
To respect jack as a character, this is what i believe. Every time you see Jack return... or the Doctor mentions a time with him, add a million years to his age.
So when he meets Yaz... He is millions of years old. His conversation is that of an immortal to a human blessed with the gift of death. It makes his character elegant and beautiful.
WE DONT MAKE REFERENCES TO CHILDREN OF EARTH IN THIS HOUSE 😢😳😭
*TORCHWOOD STATUS: **_TERMINATED._*
Had Torchwood ended here I'd be happy. I love the show, but Miracle Day just feels off. But what Jack feels here, his guilt on everyone who died and the subtle playing of Owen's theme... Here Jack truly understands what it's like for the Doctor.
the nature of jack and gwen’s relationship always made me so frustrated in so many different ways
This is why he was the PERFECT CHOICE for that role!!! Really miss this show
The Hub is gone, Tosh, Owen, Ianto have passed away, Torchwood is all but a memory to people now, Gwen wants Jack to Stay and reestablish the Institute but he feels strongly that it's time move on as he did his duty protecting the Earth and she should have a better life away from all that but no matter what happens but in some shape or form Torchwood will survive and will continue to defend the planet when we need them the most even if it takes a few years for us to wait. They are always going to be there and we're gonna be waiting
Perhaps Gwen could find Martha, and make Torchwood a division of UNIT.
@@pauldelaney5990 I can't see Torchwood following UNIT protocol. After all they are supposed to be beyond the police and outside the government
Jack learned how to run away from the best.
I personally don’t see the issue with miracle day. I’m on ep 7 and it’s really dark
Edit: after watching it all i see the problems
Character development😀
Dark tone doesn’t 🟰 good story
Wow. Just such a fantastic series. Such emotion and feeling. Just wow and I miss it with all my heart. Such a shame it reached only 4 seasons. 🤍💛
While Miracle Day had it's own charm, this seems like a fitting ending to Torchwood along with old RTD era. Especially with Jack after this event seems like having his last meeting with 10th Doctor.
People really need to stop hating on Miracle Day as a whole. It was incredible - plot wise but I agree the ending was horrible and confusing all at once and really took away the uniqueness of Jack.
I definitely agree, while it was very Americanised... I agree that it's underrated. I still can't understand how Jack's immortality is connected to his blood... Did Rose as Bad Wolf give him more Vitamin D or something? 😂😂😂
So the big question is who took over monitoring the rift after Torchwood Three had been “shut down”?
Gwen would have had after it ended, or it would have been closed after
I think the Doctor closed it during the events of Stolen Earth? Could be wrong but I think it was written down somewhere
It was closed during a surprisingly undiscussed audio story.
But then it reopened around 2017 just as Torchwood 3 was rebuilding
Maybe it was UNIT ??
Such a great ending. I don't want to watch Miracle Day as a result which is unfair to a degree but this is just so strong.
I prefer to pretend Miracle Day does not exist.
I often misremember Jack's final line. The OST track is ingeniously titled "I Can Run Forever" so sometimes I think of this scene of him saying that instead of "Just Watch Me."
They need to bring Torchwood back with Gwen and Jack!
This is how they SHOULD'VE ended the show. I wouldn't have minded one bit if miracle day didn't exist lol.
So is this just befor Jack meets Alsonzo and sees 10 for the last time
yes
Eve Myles was often over the top in TW but I never, ever felt she was faking it... 😭
What for? I felt that one so hard.😭
It's agony living with so many bad memories and trauma that you can no longer just stay and stick it out. That you become desperate and compelled to put as much distance between yourself and the past. By starting again somewhere else and finding a better life.
I am at that point and honestly don't care where I go next, as long as its not here and where anyone else knows me. Just somewhere new where I can choose who I want to be, and not repeat the same mistakes that brought me to my current point.
While (Unpopular Opinion) I liked Miracle Day, it was a good story with an interesting idea and realistic handling of an impossible situation,
I agree with everyone else that this should have been the actual ending.
Children of Earth was fantastic itself, the end wraps everything up so nicely, it is touching and while no one wants Jack to go, everyone understand him.
It's like Dragonball Z when it should have ended with the Cell Saga, when Gohan surpassed his father and defeated the evil guy who was a combination of the strongest fighters in the galaxy (also Vegeta), also with a good wrap up-ending with Gohan being the new savior of the Universe.
And in both cases, Miracle Day and Boo Saga, the follow-up-stories weren't bad, they just feel kinda pointless as continuing stories and ruining a lot of things.
In my head canon Miracle Day didn’t happen and Torchwood ended here.
SAME!
JB was so great in this scene 😭😭😭😭
Let's all pretend Miracle Day didn't happen and THIS is where Torchwood ends.
My opinion on miracle day is that there are some good episodes and some very very bad but in the end is okey
Look I’m crying again
Two years later he returns in Miracle Day.
Then you see the TARDIS land and the pops out and says someone wants a word with you then jack pops out and says hey I alway come back
i wish torchwood would last-long forever
my head cannon is he didnt run away, the Judoon arrest him here and then he meets Jodie, Miracle Day never happened, it was his coping mechanism or a VR fantasy.
Love Owens theme at 1:58 😢
He came back for her
@@doctorwhat42069 all torchwood was dead except Gwen
11 years since ianto didn't die tomorrow
Torchwood at is finest
and now it’s time for the Miracle Day clips....
The music is brilliant this scene is brilliant i just love torchwood ♥️👍
The Face of Boe.
I loved torchwood still do always best tv show and dr who the cast jack and gwen and ryhs were my favourites but overall. Such sad episodes when jack leaves and owen dies too.
This was the last torchwood episode I watched.
Should I watch the next series or not as I've heard mixed things about it.
It an awful /americanized version of the original. Don't watch it.
Its quite slow in actually getting to the main point and everything is quite predictable but id say overall the story is very unique and worth the watch
Yes it's great but the last episode has a cliffhanger that doesn't really make sense.
Alannah Riggs Russell Davies mentioned that the BBC didn’t give him enough episodes for Series 3, and then Season 4 had too much time to cover. They also left Season 4 on a cliffhanger and prevented Barrowman from making a Dr. Who appearance during the Matt Smith Era. If BBC was fully making it, it would have worked, but they were filming in America.
Brian Silva i never knew that but you can really tell. I love torchwood nevertheless
This is where Torchwood should have ended.
Ok
Change Name Who Can See Your Name torch wood is a masterpiece but I don't think it's should of ended here
Lack land yeah
completely agree
How can Jack teleport? Wouldn't his immortality prevent it?
Teleporting is just deconstructing a persons molecular makeup, converting the blueprints of their makeup into a transmittable signal, sending the signal to a machine that constructs a new body using the blueprints. Essentially your body is destroyed and a new body with your memories is created somewhere else.
Rose brought him back to life everytime he really died. There is no need to revive him here. He is a fixed point to the time he naturally dies as the face of boe.
for me this is the true ending. torchwood 3 basically all dead. ianto and jack could have been together forever, making another season with new people and uh..gwen just makes it hurt even more
I really miss this show
Thank you
Heartbreaking ending! Still, least he came back!
It would be great if Jack made a comeback in doctor who with the 13th doctor,
Well he returned for a Thirteenth Doctor story, but didn't interact with the Doctor, only the companions
@@jumpcutfilms1958 yeah, here's hoping he does in Revolution of the Daleks 😁
So that Cruiser is where he ia during the send off to 10 in Journeys End??
Maybe. At least he got a date with Alonso and that…now that I remember the audio drama, it also blew up in his face. Jeez, Jack can never catch a break!
I REALLY HOPE THEY DON'T RUNE JACK IN THE NEW DICTOR WHO I WILL BE SO ANGRY
Immortality to a hero is a curse because you can save the majority of a the population of an entire planet but suffer more the guilt and failure to keep your loved ones alive 😢
We love the story continues audiobooks but please please bring back Torchwood Davies!!!! You have time to write scripts now!!! Please please please please
I don't know why everybody hate Miracle Day. I really like it
Because it wasn’t anywhere near as good as children of earth. Also it messed up with a lot of the lore. Like how does Jacks fixed point immortality get transferred, means his immortality isn’t fixed then, or the ending where Rex is now immortal, like what!? Also the premise of it being in America and written like an American show was very jarring to a lot of viewers and felt it stripped away from the charm that torchwood had
@@zakapholiac9377 I've always seen the 'it messes with the lore' criticism, but it really doesn't. Miracle Day never retcons it as Jack's blood being what makes him immortal. Instead it's just that the Blessing sees his blood is immortal, and tries to emulate that for the whole human race. It has the effect of willing them to keep living, but isn't strong enough to heal all 7 billion as well. Rex becomes immortal in the finale because instead of it being 7 billion people, the Blessing is only concentrating on one person, and so is much more powerful and succeeds in mimicking what it saw in Jack's blood.
@@martingoldfreed2627 his immortality isn’t biological. He is in many ways a normal being, but every time he dies, time and space wills him back to life. His blood being able to give others any form of immortality doesn’t really work, as it isn’t connected.
@@Indigo_Polarity I'm not sure you read my comment.
It's not a plot hole in Miracle Day and makes perfect sense.
@@martingoldfreed2627 I read the comment. It doesn’t work for the Blessing to sense anything in Jack’s blood or biology connected to his immortality as that is not where his immortality comes from. It’s a cosmic thing, not a biological thing. Time wills him back to life. It doesn’t really damage the story of Miracle Day (the mediocrity does that) but it’s just a frustrating inconsistency that I’m surprised no one brought up when writing it.
Personally for me, this is where Torchwood ends. Miracle Day doesn't exist as this was the perfect ending to the series. Nothing wrong with a bit of retcon if they ever want to reunite Jack and Gwen
i would like to see a continuation [not reboot] and jack is back with silver hair because he's millions of years old now
I guess this channel has stopped uploading because... it doesn’t have the Starz rights to upload??
This should have been the definitive end to Torchwood, instead we had the abomination known as Miracle Day.
Who here has listened to Aliens Among Us and God Among Us? If you haven't, check them out here: www.bigfinish.com/ranges/v/torchwood-the-story-continues (This is not a shameless plug I swear)
I think we can all agree that Miracle Day doesn't exist and is just fanfic.
Bad fanfic…hosted on Wattpad
This is where it should have ended!
Hot Take- as much As i LOVE this ending, Gwen should not have survived. And Miracle Day is actually a good season of Torchwood
They're not going to kill off the main protagonist of the fucking show. Also, you do realise you commented this twice, don't you? Did you think your point would have more leverage if it was repeated?
Yes 257 likes and no dislikes, pls leave it dis way.
This ending is just so horrible man, but it would've been for the best to leave it here. Miracle Day made this ending seem more ideal in retrospect. Still tho, I do remember sobbing my eyes out after this scene and praying for a new series, don't pretend you didn't ahaha
I love this ending, but I absolutely adore Miracle Day.
You are the only person I have ever heard say that... (I didn’t hate miracle but I definitely don’t adore it 😂)
Now to the face of boe
They should have left it here. And forget abt miracle day
Right every 1 hating on miracle day, yes ending isn’t great I agree, but the rest of the series is dark, gripping and horrifying so tell me a reason why miracle day was bad that wasn’t the ending
Besides from being Americanised is that the ONLY reason people hate it.
That's a bit like people calling Children of Earth the worst thing ever because of its ending. Yes, the ending was actually good, but if it was bad...
People need to grow up. If you enjoyed just about every other bit of Miracle Day, then it's not a bad story.
I don't even think Miracle Day is cannon tbh.
It shouldn't be
I mean watch end of time u find out where he is
And he gout over ianto pretty quick
Jack never got over it. He just reverted back to his Doctor who self as a coping mechanism. In the later Big Finish audios we can see the Ianto is still very much on his mind
Not 1

God all it reminded me was what an appalling character Gwen was
dr103 pregnant and yet still willing to make her husband uncomfortable by making Jack stay
dr103 Really? Not what I got from it, especially with all that happened. Also she keeps thinking she knows what is best for Jack. At this point I don’t even think he knew what was best for him.
She is actually a fantastic character who was written to be as compelling and as realistic as possible, hence why she made a lot of mistakes. Maybe if you didn't spend so much time fawning over Jack and Ianto on your first watch like some desperate Supernatural/Sherlock fangirl, you would've actually seen that. But you didn't, so here we are.
