This man is just amazing, self taught guitarist, dropped out of school to go to Austin Tx to play bars & venues there, pulled himself out of drug, alcohol addiction. As great as his guitar playing is, so is the story of his short life. Thanks, hope to see more reactions to SRV.
Note the ring on his right hand... You can't see it...but it has the AA (Alcohol Anonymous) symbol on it... His statue in Austin also features it... AA was an important part of his life and he was very public about that fact...

I saw Stevie Ray live at Valley Forge Music Theater in PA in the 80s! I had 3 row center. He played Voodoo Child and I melted out my chair tears running down my cheeks goosebumps all over my body out of pure f-ing electrifying joy!!!! He's my favorite and always will be!

Stevie in this song does a call and response repeatedly from his guitar to his voice until the two become one seamless instrument. Recognized consistently as one of the top three or top one of all time.
Freakishly strong hands and besides the thick strings he also had the strings set higher off the fretboard so he could better action and get the sounds he wanted from the protesting steel wires.
This was his string gauge 013 - .015 - .019p - .028 - .038 - .058 It wasn't the full 13 set like most people think. When his fingers ached he would play 12's at times but the official mixed set was above.

I saw SRV live in Detroit, he broke a string on his guitar while soloing, he kept playing with only 4 strings. The roadie walked up with a replacement guitar, Stevie jumped right to it while the roadie was holding it. Kept soloing, while he was the roadie switched the guitar strap and took the guitar with the broken string away. SRV never missed one note. Absolutely phenomenal.

I could rattle off names galore, but the truth is, there is no “ best “ guitarist,....period ! Picked up my first guitar at 7, formed my first band at 14, and started playing large venues at 15. Played professionally for a couple decades, and have been out for a couple decades now. It takes a natural born musical ability, constant practice and creativity. I’ve always found the most amazing musicians are highly creative, truly have fun with it, and are self taught. Yes, many highly educated musicians may seem creative, but that’s just because you don’t pick up on their mimicry of others. The more you play others music, the harder it is to be truly creative. It’s hard to shake training, but if you’ve never had it, everything comes from bits and pieces you pick up, put in your own creative voice. There is no, “ can’t, or, shouldn’t “ be done. The world is your oyster until someone, or something restricts your creativity. It’s not in the genre, however, metal, and more particularly, thrash metal has no boundaries like other genres have. They utilize everything. Every technique, every style, reshaped to form the most creative music ever created. Think on that, strictly blues people ! Stevie was awesome, but not the greatest guitarist to ever live by far. No such thing exists !

Came close to losing Clapton that night too, but he was aboard a different helicopter; his manager and his body guard were also on the doomed chopper and killed alongside SRV.
It was a sad loss the day he died. I still remember actually where I was , when the announcement came over the radio. I know everyone has their favorite guitarist, but my is SRV and Page. They have a certain tone that set them apart for me.
I remember exactly where I was too on August 27 1990 too. On vacation with my ex and daughter in the Pocono Mountains PA. It poured rain all week and I told my young daughter it was tears from heaven. ✌💜✌

Voodo Child is a Jimi Hendrix song that Stevie is covering. Stevie did a Hendrix tour in a show of respect for Jimi. Sadly we lost Jimi to drugs in 1970 and Stevie in a helicopter crash Aug 27th 1990.
The best way to remember Stevie's name is to say "Stevie Rave On." Say it all together and you've got the pronunciation for Stevie Ray Vaughan. Oh, and the thing that he used was a wah pedal for the wah-wah sound. And when he bent down, he was taking the high end off his pedals for specific parts of the song. Stevie could very quickly edit the tone on his guitar. You saw him adjusting the knobs on the front of the guitar throughout the song. In my mind, Stevie was the greatest guitarist to ever walk the earth. He started learning to play at age 7... and it showed.
He was using a Wah Wah pedal and a full set of "pedals" to obtain that sound which was pioneered by the late great Jimi Hendrix in 1968 ... that was 52 years ago and the world has never been the same. That being said , the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan brings another dimension to this song and yes he is considered to be one of the best to have ever played an electric six string. They're both jamming together in heaven now ...

IMHO, SRV is the GOAT, perhaps holding the top spot with Eddie Van Halen. He wouldn't have existed without Jimi Hendrix - but, SRV had eight more years of playing in his prime than Jimi did and SRV started playing guitar eight years earlier in his life than Jimi. Jimi might have been the GOAT if he lived as long as SRV. IMHO, Jimi was better than SRV at 27 years of age, but SRV surpassed him in the last three years of his life after he had kicked his huge drug habit for good.

@Naki Ryan There are a few songs one doesn't go out of their way to alter much and make their "own". This is one of them. "Stairway to Heaven" and "Comfortably Numb" are a couple more. Those are "ICON" songs and 99% of the population want to hear a "fairly" close version if someone is doing a cover. I love that you picked up on the drummer! Just as with Hendrix, his drummer ties the soulful chaos of Voodoo Chille together. Stevie was a master of guitar with sense enough to keep the best backup band in the business with him. If only Hendrix made the same decision, who, knows..... RIP Jimmy and Seivie.... ...and of note, is that even though Stevie Ray was constantly improving, he died at age 35 in the Wisconsin mountains in a helicopter on August 27, 1990. I heard the full recording of that concert and I have never heard a human that could play as fast as he did in that concert. He cleaned up his drug addiction in 1985...then he died far too young. I saw him in concert in Daytona Beach, Fl around 1985. I was a huge fan but I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I saw him live. You realize that you are in the presence of greatness.

I just found your channel. This is only the second video I watched. Strange coincidence that the first two vids I watched are great artists who died in plane crashes (actually a helicopter for Stevie). The other was Freebird live. Stevie Ray Vaughan was, in my opinion and many others, one of the greatest blues guitarists that ever lived.

I’ve never watched this video of SRV but his musicianship is just so unparalleled? Effortless? I don’t know the word... just wow.
Stevie used the heaviest gauge strings there is. 13 gauge strings and they’re like using cables.

I saw SRV live in Detroit, he broke a string on his guitar while soloing, he kept playing with only 4 strings. The roadie walked up with a replacement guitar, Stevie jumped right to it while the roadie was holding it. Kept soloing, while he was the roadie switched the guitar strap and took the guitar with the broken string away. SRV never missed one note. Absolutely phenomenal.

You'll never see a better guitar perfomance than that. Crazy talent. A friend of mine saw his last performance at Alpine Valley around 1990, he tragically died in a helicopter crash later that night. He went there to see Eric Clapton and said that Stevie Ray blew Clapton out of the water. RIP SRV

I could rattle off names galore, but the truth is, there is no “ best “ guitarist,....period ! Picked up my first guitar at 7, formed my first band at 14, and started playing large venues at 15. Played professionally for a couple decades, and have been out for a couple decades now. It takes a natural born musical ability, constant practice and creativity. I’ve always found the most amazing musicians are highly creative, truly have fun with it, and are self taught. Yes, many highly educated musicians may seem creative, but that’s just because you don’t pick up on their mimicry of others. The more you play others music, the harder it is to be truly creative. It’s hard to shake training, but if you’ve never had it, everything comes from bits and pieces you pick up, put in your own creative voice. There is no, “ can’t, or, shouldn’t “ be done. The world is your oyster until someone, or something restricts your creativity. It’s not in the genre, however, metal, and more particularly, thrash metal has no boundaries like other genres have. They utilize everything. Every technique, every style, reshaped to form the most creative music ever created. Think on that, strictly blues people ! Stevie was awesome, but not the greatest guitarist to ever live by far. No such thing exists !

It was a sad loss the day he died. I still remember actually where I was , when the announcement came over the radio. I know everyone has their favorite guitarist, but my is SRV and Page. They have a certain tone that set them apart for me.
I remember exactly where I was too on August 27 1990 too. On vacation with my ex and daughter in the Pocono Mountains PA.
It poured rain all week and I told my young daughter it was tears from heaven. ✌💜✌

Voodo Child is a Jimi Hendrix song that Stevie is covering. Stevie did a Hendrix tour in a show of respect for Jimi. Sadly we lost Jimi to drugs in 1970 and Stevie in a helicopter crash Aug 27th 1990.
The best way to remember Stevie's name is to say "Stevie Rave On." Say it all together and you've got the pronunciation for Stevie Ray Vaughan. Oh, and the thing that he used was a wah pedal for the wah-wah sound. And when he bent down, he was taking the high end off his pedals for specific parts of the song. Stevie could very quickly edit the tone on his guitar. You saw him adjusting the knobs on the front of the guitar throughout the song. In my mind, Stevie was the greatest guitarist to ever walk the earth. He started learning to play at age 7... and it showed.

He was using a Wah Wah pedal and a full set of "pedals" to obtain that sound which was pioneered by the late great Jimi Hendrix in 1968 ... that was 52 years ago and the world has never been the same. That being said , the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan brings another dimension to this song and yes he is considered to be one of the best to have ever played an electric six string. They're both jamming together in heaven now ...

He was one of the very best, and we all still love him here in Austin, TX.
IMHO, SRV is the GOAT, perhaps holding the top spot with Eddie Van Halen. He wouldn't have existed without Jimi Hendrix - but, SRV had eight more years of playing in his prime than Jimi did and SRV started playing guitar eight years earlier in his life than Jimi. Jimi might have been the GOAT if he lived as long as SRV. IMHO, Jimi was better than SRV at 27 years of age, but SRV surpassed him in the last three years of his life after he had kicked his huge drug habit for good.
Was gonna say he sure buried Eddie as my fave rock guitarist. Saw VH 5 times but sadly SRV only once. But man was I blown away when I did see him. Opened for the Moody Blues in Philadelphia PA. ✌💜✌

@Naki Ryan There are a few songs one doesn't go out of their way to alter much and make their "own". This is one of them. "Stairway to Heaven" and "Comfortably Numb" are a couple more. Those are "ICON" songs and 99% of the population want to hear a "fairly" close version if someone is doing a cover. If somebody is covering "Comfortably Numb" and starts throwing shit in that doesn't belong I'm getting up and leaving. Sorry, there are some things you just don't f**k with.
I love that you picked up on the drummer! Just as with Hendrix, his drummer ties the soulful chaos of Voodoo Chille together. Stevie was a master of guitar with sense enough to keep the best backup band in the business with him. If only Hendrix made the same decision, who, knows..... RIP Jimmy and Seivie.... Miss you both, each and every day.

...and of note, is that even though Stevie Ray was constantly improving, he died at age 35 in the Wisconsin mountains in a helicopter on August 27, 1990. I heard the full recording of that concert and I have never heard a human that could play as fast as he did in that concert. He cleaned up his drug addiction in 1985...then he died far too young. I saw him in concert in Daytona Beach, Fl around 1985. I was a huge fan but I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I saw him live. You realize that you are in the presence of greatness.

I just found your channel. This is only the second video I watched. Strange coincidence that the first two vids I watched are great artists who died in plane crashes (actually a helicopter for Stevie). The other was Freebird live. Stevie Ray Vaughan was, in my opinion and many others, one of the greatest blues guitarists that ever lived.
Everybody has a favorite player but Stevie Ray Vaughn ( pronounced Von ) was the GOAT! totally different level his guitar was an exstention of himself as one.
You wanna be blown away. Check out his Sound Check. Nobody in the building but him and the band getting set up for the show. It has just as much soul as his concert and it's just the warm up.
