I used to run a humber keel up there taking steel pilings from Keadby to the British Waterways yard at I think, Castleford. The unloading bay was indeed for unloading coal for the power station. Pusher tugs used to shove long lines of buttys down from a coal mine further upriver and then a big 'hand' would pick up a butty and tip it upside down to empty the coal onto a conveyor belt . Lots of memories including seeing the Aire and Calder water bright orange. We put some into the 'bog bucket' and it took a layer off the galvanising and left it very shiny. Lucky the dangly bits didn't dip into it! Wow, this vlog has let loose loads of memories.
Well a big thanks for showing Smith & Sons Boatyard at Castleford where my boat Lazy Days was built in 1930. The pub behind laid on an evening for us and invited the old codgers of the town and the British Legion. Bangers and spuds were served and the beer was a lot cheaper than London, the old boys remembered they shipyard and timber yard across the road. The yard sold out later to a company that ran tugs and barges to the coal power station you showed. Through the local paper we found the daughter of the shipwright that built LD, it was a great 3 week trip From Cuxton on the Medway and back again.
Wow what a story. I'm glad I got it in for you mate. I try to show pubs and marinas and boat yards where possible. Good memories for you then? Nicceee. Thankyou
A very nice cruise, with great scenery, walk around town, through a few locks, pump out (god wanted to give you a freebie). On a train, love English trains. In Mr Van going down the road and look, a free caravan . No supermarket visit. Great vlog, thanks Will, take care.
Wasn't it stunning. Free pumpout and a free caravan oooh nice. The trains are great value. I was in Aldi I don't want film in there. Thanks again Phil..
@@NarrowboatWill I have recently moved to Castleford and came across this boat when I was walking the dog. It's a shame that someone has lost it and it's not been recover. I took a photo and goole the name to find out what happened to it. It's called grace darling and is from Stratford
Another time we met a barge skipper who actually had a huge punt gun that he could mount at the bow. In November he used to turn the engine off before a corner and glide up to a flock of ducks. He reckoned he sometimes got as many as 20 to flog in the pub.

Nice one Will, sticking his chest out for the camera lol, do you ever feel like having the van is like a bit of an anchor, having to go back for it, all the best mate, Terry.
The sunken narrowboat is called grace darling I have photos of the boat from before it was sunk and also after. Love the vlog hope you enjoyed your visit to my town of Castleford.
get a couple of all terrain forklifts could surely drag that sunken boat out onto the field but after the crop ha been harvested. i presume they won't allow it to stop there for ever.
It's been there for a while I've been told. It drifted from its moorings in the floods a few years ago. I don't know why it's still there. Perhaps it cost more than it's worth. You know. Thanks for watching.
The sunken boat is or was the Grace Darling. Was moored at the Staithes and broke loose in the floods a few years ago. Ended up of the opposite bank to where it lies now, but then slid off in the next flood and sunk. Been there over a year now. They could get cranes onto the field beside it, no idea why they haven’t. I live close so walk dogs there daily.
I thought the weight of a crane in that field would be dodgy. Shame it wasn't rescued. If my boat drifted off I would've got it back. Thanks for the info. Interesting.
Nice singing voice there! 💗😊👍🏼
Ha ha cheers Leela.
I love it when the "birds shines and the suns singing" made our night Will 🤣
Ha ha you got it. What about Castleford. Signs everywhere? I was fishing myself so I didn't log on to you tonight. Take care guys.

Hello Phillip. Yes another boat told me history of the boat which I mention next vlog. It's a shame. Thanks for the info.

free pump out, unless the pumps owner said it was free then it's theft even if the pump is malfunctiong. Honesty is always the best policy.
I was with one of the people who lived there and she helped me. Omg two of us are going down..Thanks
