I was there with my Dad and my brother. After the homer, my brother and I ran down onto the field. He went behind second base and tore up some grass like so many. It's still in place behind our house in Freehold, NJ. I went to home plate. A group of us was trying to dig it up and the police were approaching. It popped out and one of the others and I grabbed it and while each holding it ran out to the warning track. He pulled out a knife and a blade popped out (switch blade). I told him he could have it and he said "no, just hold the corner". We cut it and I still have my piece here in my Yankees collection!
I remember that one, Bucky Dent (stuck in 10th grade that game but heard it in car radio when mom picked me up from school), Pine tar deal, Reggie becoming Mr. October, Reggie sticking hip out,...
I had no idea of that connection. I was with friends about a dozen rows behind Yankees dugout. Yes I freaked out, wow! Living in San Diego since 1978. Thank you Mr. Chambliss!

I was a young kid at the time and had no idea a game could end so exciting, special memory
I was 15 and went wild!
@@1223jamez I was 12, was rooting for the Royals. I remember being crushed by it, but thrilled for Chambliss getting his moment.
Great memories of a great Yankee team so long ago.

Chris Chambliss is a MiraCosta College Alum that had a long career in baseball.
A great clutch hitter and a great guy, too!
What a legacy. This will always be in the pantheon of baseball’s greatest moments
