My Dad Walt Disney - Diane Disney Interview - DisneyAvenue.com

- Diane Disney was the ultimate torchbearer of her father Walt's legacy. Walt Disney was a very public figure, but Diane did her best to avoid the spotlight until she realized that her father’s centennial year was approaching in 2001. She worried that people didn’t know who he was any more. The once-familiar face and voice from years of television exposure was fading into the shadows. If people recognized the name it was as a corporate entity and no longer associated with a real, live person. She made up her mind to reverse that process, even if it meant having to sacrifice some of her own privacy, and the Walt Disney Museum was born.
Back in 2006, before the Walt Disney Museum opened, Diane sat down with American film critic and historian Leonard Maltin for an interview that appeared in the bonus features of the Walt Disney Treasures DVD "Your Host Walt Disney" for a warm and intimate look back at her heartfelt memories of her dad, Walt Disney.

Thank you Walt disney ♡ You made our childhood magical
he said your welcome
He did indeed make our childhood wonderful! Such an extraordinary man!
what an amazing childhood she had.
I thought the same thing!
R.I.P. Walter Elias Disney. The world was not ready for you. But you where ready for the world. Ty for all you’ve gave us in your short time here. And we’ll all continue to feed the birds
ye but there’s a rumor he smoked
People think because he changed the world he had to be this perfect person to fit his persona, who gives a shit if he smoked or not besides it was a stress relieving habit that was caused cuz he went to WAR. All praise Walt Disney and his vision of the future
@@MLthereal96 yeah, went to war to protect racism, Jim Crow, misogyny, antisemitism, devaluing workers...
@@chrissinclair4442 people like you are sick. Videos from the past talking about a man who made the world smile with his creations along with his collaborators. Was Disney flawed? Sure like all people he is flawed. But people like you try to dehumanize flawed people by saying things like "m-muh antisemitic Disney" "muh smoking" when the rumors were most likely over exaggerated. The good he done was ultimately much more than the slight evils done and you hate people like him just for that. Being flawed.
@@mincelamon1680 I totally agree! More of Walt less of people like this one ✨🌟✨
May she Rest In Peace in heaven with her Dad ❤️
I could listen to her all day…. she had the gift of Storytelling as much as her Dad. We live just a few blocks away from the WALT DISNEY STUDIO…. and to watch the Tigers in his office was a real treat! 🐅🐅
Art Linkletter & Walt Disney! What a great team!
Wonderful insight into Walt Disney’s life from her daughter ✨
The innocence of that time! Wish it would be again!
Walt Disney was Special! I remember watching the "Wonderful World of Color" on TV! Always felt "Happy" to hear his voice!
Disney made the World a Better Place!
Two men that changed the world, Jesus and Walt Disney. The world would not have been right without either of them.
Jesus was NOT a man and to compare him to Walt Disney is BEYOND RIDICULOUS
@@BBAKER22 nope I completely agree. In fact, I'd rather just worship Walt now that I think of it...
@@BBAKER22 both were awesome
I miss all that wholesome, family entertainment.
The cartoons
The feature films
The Mickey Mouse club
Sunday TV show
Was it just a different Era, simpler more innocent time? Or did we leave a part of our souls behind.
This is a treasure. Thanks to all involved! 😊. 2023
Walt's spirit is weeping over what current Disney leadership is doing to his legacy.
Exactly
making him nuber one in the world wide Movie industry and MEDIA !
@@BBAKER22 He would be so effing P R O U D ! he was never a HATER
Im a Disney Artist and this interview was so wonderful. To me, Walt was just as much a World Leader as Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Mother Teresa, and others. To me, he celebrated Goodness. And to me, he was born with the most magnificent and magical Life Plan… and I think he felt that deeply. That’s why he never gave up, despite his early career struggles. It’s not easy for me to put these thoughts into words…. But I sense that Disney heart went very deep… and that he had a Light which he desperately wanted to share with the world.
It's so obvious Diane had a great deal of respect for her Dad. Such a reflection of strong family values.
Was I the only one who found it strange Diane referred to her father as “Walt”?
Great...Now tell us something we DON'T know
@@BBAKER22 Go away gramps
He worked very hard to fullfill his dream becoming our dream. Thank you, Walt Disney! Rest in peace!
As a child of the 60's I grew up watching the Woderful World of Color with Disney on Sunday evenings.
My childhood was not always the sweetest memories, but Disney did bring joy & pleasure to it with his wonderful films & stories. My children were raised watching the same films I did.
Disney was an innovative & creative man who changed the world.
Even ro thus day I cannot watch Old Yeller without shredding tears at the end.
I watched the Mickey Mouse Club in the afternoons.
I have a memory of my aunt taking us to see the film Sleeping Beauty at a theater. I'm 64 now. I love Mary Poppins , the scenes of the woman feeding the birds still warms my heart & I cry.
Thank you for showing this documenttary about his family life. What would the world be like without Disney? I don't want to know.
RIP TO HIS FAMILY.
Walt truly was the most Amazing person EVER. 🥺
He loved and wanted to be like Jesus the Messiah
Southern Belle
Amen. I truly saw that in him.
So beautiful. Me too.His daughter was so precious. I knew her a little, what a gift from God! I was blessed. She was her daddy's girl. I miss her voice so much. It was really special. Her husband Ron was such a talented filmmaker, among other things, and I loved him too. . . A very intuitive man. I know they are in the light and love of God, they were those kind of Christians who are totally cool, never false. You know? That classy family, makes you think about how to live, and what makes life better. God bless them, and you as well as yours.
No. Jesus Christ was.
Walt Disney was indeed extraordinary!
Thank-you to Walt Disney who was an extraordinary father, husband & man! I so loved & admired him! His daughter is a testament to being raised by two extraordinary parents ( such a wonderful woman!)! I love this video so much! It is the best interview ever! Thanks again!

I guess if you have a dad like him you take it for granted. We should never take our family for granted.
What a perfect interview! ❤️ Love the footage of Uncle Walt!
I guess that makes us family, I just found out today that I'm his daughter. He froze his swimmers and the egg of not his wife , I don't believe anyways and here I am .
How blessed you were to have this extraordinary man as your uncle ( OurMidWestLife)! I bet you have some wonderful memories of your amazing Uncle & stories of visits to see him! Thanks for sharing!
@@karenstrycharz1499 Walt Disney called HIMSELF Uncle Walt, when he addressed things about new projects publicly.
Luv Walt Disney. Luv this interview. I can't imagine being the daughter of an icon.
Thank Diane for keeping your wonder daddy legacy to life ❤️
Storybook Cottage with a mailbox for letters to Santa, what a fairytale childhood
Ty Walt Disney. You made our childhood wonderful and magical..
When Diane died, any connection between the family and the company was severed.
Walt Disney is such an inspiration for me! This made me cry because Disney has such an emotional impact on me as a company! Thank you Walt Disney for creating this company
RIP Diane
Nothing is greater than Disneyland…..God Bless Walt Disney.
I just took it all for granted. I thought it was free . Lol
Thank You for sharing, from a 62yo faithful, loving fan. Peace
The Disney channel forgets my generation I miss seeing Walt Disney on TV
Because having an icon for a dad as a child you don't know what you have.
Walt Disney was my childhood. Remember watching it every Sunday night at 6:00 pm in 1962. What would the world be like if we didn’t have had Walt Disney. Thank you for the memories ❤
This is a nice interview, I love seeing the old footage from her childhood too
Such a sweet and genuine lady and keeper of the wonderful legacy.🎯💗🐭🌠 Stay safe everyone!
She has the same laugh as her father.
I been to disney land every year with my dad. My fav wad rollar coaster.
Diane's husband Ron was a Disney executive. He served as executive producer of the "New Mickey Mouse Club" in the 1970s.
Thank you Diane
Rest in peace Diane Disney. She will never be forgotten and her father's legacy will live on at Disneyland and the company. I am grateful for what Walt Disney has done for us to make everyone happy. His Disneyland park is the happiest place on earth but when did the company start to go downhill?
As a LA resident, I always will wish the Disney Museum were located in Burbank or even somewhere in LA County. But that’s just me. Love you Uncle Walt!!
RIP Walt disney 😭🥺
Finally got the answer I have been looking for years. Diane, Sharon, and Lillian were not at Disneyland on opening day.
Touched my heart! Thank you for this! We all need more Disney Today!!! Disney got me through 2020! We JUST visited WDW in February 2020 before the big close! There were just whispers of possible closings then, it did not seem possible! It was our best vacation yet, then the world fell apart. We postponed our next WDW trip to 2023 in the hopes the mask mandate and no resort hopping will be over. Can't wait to go home again! Thank You Walt Disney And Family!!!
We need the original Disney ideal - the woke Disney now can go to Hades!!!!!
@MsDana-mo9fp it is sad what has happened to what Walter Believed In and Created...We have not been back since 2020, but hope to be back in 2024. I pray they haven't destroyed the parks and the beauty that was when I was a kid. God Willing The Nostalgia Will Still Be There!!!

11:44: Song of The South...NOT very easy to purchase anymore, huh...
The dirty liberals took care of that. They are trying to destroy what Walt Disney created!!
No it's not because it represented blacks as 'liking' being slaves, as being happy in slavery & of course slavery being owned & as property is morally wrong . Not politically correct.
I know. It's so weird, that the book, it is based upon, could have such stupid content!

Sooo sad the Disney family sold out. It's never been the same since. Disneyland is a prime example.😢
Word. I know you mean Roy and Eisner and so on.
@@wonderland2023 What? If it were not for Roy the company would have bought, and broken up, by corporate raiders. Roy saved the Disney company, more than once.

Walter and elons crew will be sure to bring it back. Thank God for the circle of life. Celebrate fixing freedom
I pay the bills. And I pay for everything he has done in his life. Children don't understand that. When I was a child I grew up in a great place never understanding my father paid the bills
i am wondering why she located the museum in San Fracisco, instead of in Los Angeles area. i suppose she lives in the bay area?
Yeah, it is an odd location for the museum. A museum about Walt Disney, in a city that Walt never lived in. But it was his daughter's home later. She and her husband moved to the Bay area when Ron quit working for Disney. For her to build and run it... I guess being near her home does make sense.
just another town to have a wonderful Disney product
What year was this interview? Diana died in 2013
Probably the late 90s.
The walt disney co wanted to keep the stuff in walts apartment at disneyland after walt died the company didn't allow her to take her stuff because it belonged to the walt disney co. She hired someone to sneak into the apartment and grab some of the items inside the apartment. She got away with it with small punishment. The walt disney company was stupid for not letting her have her belongings!

The audio on this is terrible! Volume level way too low. Should boost and repost.

Before this century is over, there will be a Disney park on either the Moon or Mars and possibly a space station too.
Disney Family Museum should be at the studios or somewhere in the L A area not in San Francisco it just doesn’t make any since being in Northern California! Disney Family grew up and have history Southern California!
I agree! ✨🌟
Since she was his actual family and not us, perhaps she can best decide where it should be?
