    I think this is why grapes, even from California where I am, are one of the most heavily sprayed plants for growers. Make sure and rinse those things off if you’ve sprayed them. That stuff usually has a restriction as to when you can spray, and then also time to harvest after it has been sprayed. (Sorry, I thought I heard you say you sprayed recently, but if it was only at beginning of season as a dormant oil, then im sure you’d have no worries) Good luck, Ross!

    What was the grape variety that had the least rot on it? We have mars and they are always so full of rot I’m probably going to rip them out

      They all have rot. Muscadines will not.

    My dad had a grape farm back in Afghanistan before the war with Russia. His family had the famous finger shaped housini grapes. He told me they put some kind of white powdered stuff on the grapes. I think it was sulfur? He was able to bring back some and hopefully within a few years, he'll have the same grapes his grandfather's planted. I'll trade grapes with you for figs any day LOL😊

    I have brown rot on my nectarines. Read directions on the spray carefully. The spray I have says right before the flowers open up is the time to spray. I made the mistake of not spraying at the right time. The rot got a little better but next year I will be ready.

    I am actually relocating my grape arbor this winter because of the black spot. We built a covered deck that significantly reduced sunlight to the arbor...at this point there is no point. We are going to attmept a massive pruning and try to dig up and salvage out 4 vines leaving the existing arbor in place. Can you think of anything you might grow on an arbor system that gets more shade? We have similar growing conditions...high humidity and I am a zone 7b. Just curious if you've considered replacement?

      A muscadine grape would work better. Maybe kiwi

      Ross Raddi Yep. I did a little research and we are going with a few verities of arctic kiwis. Thanks for your suggestion! Hope your figs start feeling better soon and your plastic bags work well.

    Looks like it's hard to keep up with all the summer pruning with how many trees / plants you have. I'm usually fairly heavy handed with the pruners. I think most of my more vigorous trees have had 2 haircuts this summer and will probably get another in a month or so. I'll take off unwanted branches at any time if things are looking too dense. Not only does it help with airflow but it can also help keep the bugs down (predators find them a little more easily). We'll probably get grapes planted next year or the following. I also agree with going with the most disease resistant varieties possible. Too cold here for the most part for trying muscadines.

      I pruned some of the stone fruits. Think I can do this with grapes?

    • @nmnate
      @nmnate 5 лет назад

      @@RossRaddi Given how vigorous grapes are, I wouldn't have any issues heavily thinning growth that's too dense in the middle of summer. I might want to check to see if there are any precautions about introducing disease at a wet time of year. As for summer pruning on other fruit trees, Mike Kincaid's channel has some videos about pruning apples and pears in the summer to develop fruiting spurs as opposed to winter pruning which encourages vigorous vegetative growth in the following spring. His videos were demonstrating the pruning on some really nice looking espaliered trees.

    You could use organz-bags in a larger size for your grapes.

    So what do you do when you have black spots on vines...??? I'm still none the wiser.

  • @michaelbarrett7608
    @michaelbarrett7608 5 лет назад

    Spray with copper soap and you won't have this problem guaranteed. It's organic and safe to use until day of harvest too.

    Hi ross do you now growers prune there grape clusters with a special tipe of pruners thinning out the center so the fruit that is left has the room to grow to full size. There are video's on RUclips. 😂😂🤣🤣

    • @RossRaddi
      @RossRaddi  5 лет назад

      I'm not sure what you mean? Thin out the cluster to have larger grapes?

    This is nothing, compared to the new issue. Japanese beetles! they will eat everyyy thing!!!!! but grape vine survives. More like summer pruning.
