Leopold definitely knew his business. But more than that, he lived life to its fullest. His book contains tremendous convictions and knowledge of the need for lands to be preserved for future generations. He wanted future generations of hunters and nonhunters to be able to experience parts of America as he had 100 years ago. Folks such as he wanted life to stay the same for many generations to come. His fear was that if we lost all of these lands and their bounties, we as Americans would be the worse off for it. He was driven from within for a deep desire for the future to always have a part of the past, otherwise, we would lose sight of ourselves and what made us explorers looking for that missing part of our past. Steve, your life and your dedication will speak the same way to future generations to come. God forbid if we ever lose our precious lands and their wildlife.
I live in middle of nowhere Colorado close to the 4 corners, and 99% of everyone i know agrees that the Turkey isn't in our area. So much so we don't have a season here, but an hour west they hunt turkeys all the time on the other side of the divide. However there is a little flock that moved in close to my house, first Turkey's sighted in this area for 20 years. Gives me hope.
Gotta be one of the best episodes of the whole series.
I’m now addicted to your story telling and passionate and patience as a whole while you’re on a hunt then top that with always being a conservationist ❤️❤️❤️
So true.
Most hunters understand it's a matter of conservation and keeping stable populations because of the damage the previous generations have done.
There's a reason why there are zero limits to Hog hunting, Nutria wrangling, and fishing Asian Carp
Steve, your patience constantly amazes and challenges me. Thanks for being you. Thanks for educating us.
How can his patients challenge you?
@@jackiekinner3826 to be calmer, more patient, wait for the right time, not quit. We force too much and wait too little. Family, sport, business could all benefit from being more patient
@@jackiekinner3826 unless Steve has a med degree we don't know about, I doubt he has any patients at all.
I've heard that "persistence is key" i don't know how many times, but to see it personified as you have (Steve) is inspirational. Thanks for makin this and plz keep em comin. Peace ✌😎
I live in southeast Massachusetts, when I was growing up in the 80s -90s I never saw a turkey in the wild in this area . Now they're in the cities ,towns and everywhere except the hunting spots .haha
I’m from Massachusetts as well just started hunting and I took my first turkey from southeast Massachusetts last year!
@@jamesscipione8292 that's great ,brother! Wish you the best of luck this coming season!
Have you seen a increase in coyote population? That's what's pushed our KY turkey population into cities
@@kygreenskeeper8326 yes the past 20 years or so . They've been moving in ever since the trapping ban that was instated in the 90s from what I can recall .
@@kygreenskeeper8326 definitely seen an increase in all of our game since then . Even Fisher, otter ,right down the line . Kinda makes me happy , seems well balanced now . More ,Healthier animals from what I have seen personally, here where I am.
The way Steve talks about hunting is awesome-
You create such amazing films. Your commentary is like poetry. Yet all the while creating the most real scenario and hunt into a video. Class act. All I can say is THANK YOU for taking time, creating and sharing this with the world. Thank you Steve. It woukd be an honor to simply walk behind you on these hunts. Much respect. God bless. Nothing but love.
Every modern hunter today owes a debt of gratitude to Aldo Leopold! Thanks Steve for so eloquently presenting what
Leopold gently wrote about in Sand County Almanac.
Nope
that bit at the end was simply beautiful.
Great video. In the 80s the USFWS got permission to capture wild turkeys in Durango, Chihuahua, and Coahuila Mexico to repopulate some national forests & wilderness areas in both New Mexico & Arizona. I cannot remember how many turkeys were live captured & then released but I am sure it was in the hundreds. Then, the conservation success history you are talking about (and Leopold so wisely & thoroughly envisioned) was, in some way, helped by your southern neighbors (Mexico) too.
Steve... Thanks buddy . youve taught me alot about bow hunting ... but today you taught me about Aldo Leopold. just like yourself SUCH A FUCKING LEGEND
In the Denver history museum they have an entire section of the Ute Indian section dedicated to the domestication of the turkey. I highly recommend visiting to anyone who has a deep adoration for this bird
You've managed to make me fall in love with Cebola National Forest. A place I've never been and now hope to visit.
Almost hunting season.
Getting real close, indeed.
It’s always hunting season for something
Can't wait man
@@bodiewest9202 squirrels and bullfrogs for me rn
And then we are back around to it. Seems far away being only April but I’m going out to my land this weekend to build some ground blinds
I'm a New Mexico boy! We are all about Hunting, and of course, Green and Red chili. New Mexico is a treasure chest for all kinds of game. Thanks for sharing brother. From NM, Stay safe and stay blessed my friend's.
👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🤙✌
The outro quote gave me goosebumps.
Guess I'm going to go buy that book.
One of the most inspiring episodes you made, thanks :)
So very good! Excellent presentation of this important subject.
the last part of the book at the very end there is really special. Cheers.
Yeah, I love this show and this is clearly my favorite episode I’ve seen.
This is the episode that got me to buy a Sand County Almanac. Book has changed my life.
Amazing video man, Steve is so full of knowledge, love all of meat eater

Without fail Steve delivers again can't wait for the hunt good luck gentlemen
Thank you for the passages! Time to read the book again.
@Jason urroz what book is he reading from in this episode?
@@connor101h I believe it's "A Sand County Almanac"
At least it’s gorgeous out there, I waiting for the 2022 spring turkey season to start here in the amazing state of Tennessee
Wow. What a great episode. Great book reference
Perfection. Responsible, respectful, poetic human Liberty personified.
Pretty sweet to have you filming in my neck of the woods!
Steve. Have you ever explored in the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rockies in Northern New Mexico? Spent some time out there this summer. Beautiful country
something poetic about getting two turkeys that day like Leopold
I think my favorite part was the camp fire meal at the end! Great vid
Great show Steve I Really appreciate you sharing your cooking tips and your Love for God's Great Outdoors
Love all these different series
This is such a great episode
Brilliant episode....Thanks for sharing guys...Godspeed
A paciência do caçador é recompensada 👍👍
Great, great episode. Man I need to find and read that book..
Steve you should put together a list of suggested books (besides yours). I'd love to know more about great people like Aldo leupold and colonel tom Kelly just to name a few.
I love your narrating and story telling I feel like I'm there.
I'm going out Turkey hunting for first time this spring. I've only done deer hunting. I pray, I have the success you do. I'm gonna use tips from you n other channels. Seen bunch of turkeys during deer season.
Just awesome! Thanks for sharing.
What an episode 👏👏 well done fellas
That meal but with deer backstrap and heart and maybe a trout is nightly faire in my elk camp. I just do quick drop biscuits in my dutch oven and everything is cooked in bacon grease or pork fat.
I love watching this show also great commentary
Favorite episode!!!
12:27 nice shot
Steve is the chief at hunting 😎!!!!
Bad ass cooking session at the end of video
8 more days till deer and turkey season in ky . great story and awesome video
The Middle Rio Grande chapter of the NWTF done a lot of projects in the San Mateos
Happy for ya Steve
Wonderful turkey episode. Wonderful turkey day. Happy Thanksgiving!
Now most people would have called it a day halfway through day two. Not Steve
Class one hunter.
I bet that turkey tasted so gooood 🤤😋
Thanks for another great video 👍
That looked amazing
Great episode guys!
Who here is from The Land Of Enchantment
I am the Land of Enchantment
Thank you for focusing on Aldo Leopold. If it wasn't for men and women like him we wouldn't have the wildlife today.
one of my HEROS !!!!
Dang Rinella, if you weren't happily married and I wasn't happily married.....I'd be at home, single, liking every one of your episodes!!
Ol steve is the best!
🦃 hunting is the best at least to me all the best !!
Love TURKEY🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
This is poetic. This is the kind of hunting that “anti-hunters” should see. Ethically sound.
Karen's of the woods?
Most of the MeatEaters episodes are on Netflix. Sadly they have probably seen it but won't change their mind for whatever their reasons.
Well I just ordered the book!
Hell YEA Steve!!!! Going to be hunting turkeys in NM very soon!!!!
a sand county almanac should be mandatory reading for anyone who thinks they are hunters
Wow great hunt. 👍
Come to Washington state please🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Mr.Rinella my son and I just watched you Hunt Ibex in New Mexico , we are from Montana, I have heard tell all my life of some escaped Ibex from a game Ranch in the hills east of the Tounge River Reservoir and they are being treated as invasive species so I would suggest looking into this , you never know it could be true
Good show
Some so called conservationists need to watch this, they may then come to the understanding that conservation is more than just an ideal thrown around over a single origin blend at their local cafe.
Did he happen to mention what book they were reading from? I must have missed it. I love this show.
Leopold's book? Sand County Almanac
The Turkey Hunt in the Datil National Forest is an essay, found easiest in "Aldo Leopold's Southwest"
Come back to same town you did that dove shoot years ago we can hunt all sorts of critters on public land. Bear with hounds especially
Your buddy needs to learn the ins and outs of adjusting a pack
One bird is probably enough to shoot specially in a low bird density area and given the fact that they are both jackes. As you are speaking about conservation
"See-bola"
Man that's a beautiful ending
Good story & hunting, but you should've left the second one to carry on...already so few gobblers in that forest
“…who daily gives you the slip.”
Yup
Patience brings dinner home.
Turkey hunting in New Mexico is no joke. On minute they are coming in.. the next they fly off the top of the canyon never to be seen again
I'm a turkey geek for life
Beautiful ❤️
One of my favorite episodes!
Good Stuff.
I love how avocado oil (a good that has been traded in New mexico for centuries) is some how a yuppie thing. How do you think that stuff got into the lower 48? Through the south west.
Steve knows more about turkey than a turkey knows about itself lol
Good vid.
I'm all for game and exotics, but turkey is in the frozen section, 10 min stop at the grocery
It’s not the same
12:36
Sometimes second 💪🏻😁👍 Meat eater day 🤩
Nothing like wild game meat
Turkey hunting in California. Drive road. Honk horn. Gobble go catch him. No gobble. Drive new road honk horn.
The best
show me the episode where a grizzly turns this guy into his poetic meal 👍🏼
I felt like I seen you riding a bike in durango ?
