The real issue is that JYP didn’t give ITZY enough time to establish itself before rolling out two more girl groups that divide the attention span of fans. Now all three groups share pretty much the same vibe and sound.
I have a theory. ITZY debuted with a distinct sound, and were able to play into that for three title tracks until people were like "Okay, but what else can you do?" So since thing JYP creative have been trying to re-do ITZY's sound ... by not doing that sound exactly. Now you have the reverse problem. They aren't samey anymore, they're just Generic-ITZY. In the end, that's the problem. They are off-brand versions of themselves. JYP is too afraid to pull the trigger and just try a new concept, but also doesn't want to repeat the same process DALLA DALLY, ICY, and WANNABE because it already was showing signs of waning. People say they want another WANNABE, but guaranteed if ITZY pulled that shit off people would be complaining that they never do anything new. Personally I think creative invested too much on the gimmick and now they're stuck. They're too afraid to rebrand, but know they need too. Look, ITZY can do ANY concept given to them. By this point they have the fans. So I say go for it. They need a sound thats high energy and flexible, but not repeating what they've been doing in the past. Sounds easy on paper, I know, but we know the problem and we know the solution. It's time to revamp before the monster rookies of this year completely take over. (So far - out of the 4th gens - only ( )I-DLE and aespa have been able to hang with them, and that's because they both are innovating.)
unpopular opinion: Cheshire isn’t that good compared to other itzy title tracks, it’s just that sneakers and boys like you were so bad people lowered their standards for itzy
honestly if you ask me, GALACTIKA should step back in and make another song for the girls. they’re the minds behind Wannabe, Dalla Dalla and Loco, i feel they really grasp Itzy’s sound and i kinda wish they had a more active role in their musical direction. and yeah, while they also co-produced Sneakers, the difference, i feel, is that for the previous three it was just them doing their thing with no other producers involved. looking at the credits for Sneakers, it feels like a “too many cooks spoil the broth” situation. EDIT: my mistake, GALACTIKA didn’t compose the song Sneakers, they just co-wrote it. so my point still stands lol
I think ITZY need more personal input in their songs. I became a fan during the Artist of the Month era of ITZY and with those performances they had complete control over the concept, styling make up and even input in the choreo. Those were so successful and massive stan (me) attractors especially for international fans. But Sneakers was more well received than you give it credit for. Kcharts were loving Sneakers. And the hate train brought it so much attention internationally. I think JYPE wanted their target audience to be younger, so they went for Sneakers but then they saw all the international fans distance themselves so they tried to bring them back with Cheshire. 2022 has been a weird year for ITZY. Their release schedule completely changed for the first time this year! Their promotions have been so bad! No high budget trailer film like LOCO nah just tiktoks. With Cheshire they only did 3 music show performances and no variety shows so the Korean public don’t even know this song is out. They usually do 2 weeks of music shows! I think they must have changed whoever is managing ITZY. It feels like JYPE Div2 doesn’t have a plan for them. They don’t see a future for them, like with NWJNS and Le Sserafim. I just think they need a creative director who sees a future for them or the members need to be more involved because they know what they do well! I think the reason why HYBE artist particularly BTS were so successful is that they were always looking at the future and not now or the past. There was always a plan. That’s what they need, a good plan!
Cheshire had 6 music show performances, they promoted on music bank, music core & Inkigayo. The only music show they didn't attend is show champion & M countdown is canceled until next year.
i think mitm was their best concept change. it was such a huge shift for them but they actually executed it sooooo well. + the recent ggs have been dropping great music that it’s kinda embarrassing itzy’s songs. i honestly prefer nmixx songs to recent itzy releases.
People need to give some respect to ITZY for real, because JYP doesn't give them a lot of banger songs, they get so much scrutiny. Like bro, ITZY one of the few groups that SING LIVE 90% of the time, in a time where pretty much no one is singing live on music shows, itzy is usually always singing live, even considering in the fact they have some of the hardest choreo's in the girl group sphere. ITZY are so talented, amazing dancers, great stage presence, stable live vocals, perfect group synergy. JYP needs to step tf up, Cheshire is hopefully a step in the right direction, But it's so complicated because SNEAKERS was hated in the west, but it's their best charting song on Korean charts like it's still charting in Melon top 100.......
They sing live but let’s face it the songs are not vocally challenging and when you do hear them perform it’s mostly a lot of hollering and pitchy notes.
Definitely an interesting point with member credits. Looking back the song I liked most from JYP often do have member song credits Even GOT7 who were heavily controlled when they delivered a song with member involvement it was a banger such as Page and TWICE’s latest songs most love have Chaeyoung credited
I absolutely agree with you on Wannabe being their best released title track because they literally changed my life with that single song (The lyrics & message made me gain confidence and self-love) and I played it throughout the year. To me, I think Wannabe is the Love Dive of ITZY. I don’t know what goes behind the scenes especially with Div 2 not giving them good title tracks (I also remember someone commented that instead of giving ITZY a cohesive discography, Div 2 just give them all different types of genre regardless if it’s good or not as long as it fits with ITZY’s name, meaning "to have it all") because ITZY have SO much potential like seeing their downfall from Dalla Dalla until now just makes me sad. I was a dedicated Midzy since Wannabe was released and seeing them getting worried in that interview broke my heart because as much as I want to support them, how am I supposed to when I genuinely love the songs? (I don’t hate Loco & Sneakers, I just personally wouldn’t choose to voluntarily play the songs casually) Honestly, I wish ITZY had a similar direction to Le Sserafim in terms of discography. Like imagine if ITZY released songs like Fearless & ANTIFRAGILE? So much potential.
my biggest thing is whenever I say itzys music sucks recently theirs always fans who r like “r u even a fan” or “ur using aespa fans comments” like stfu ur favs r flopping this weirdo wrote this whole dissertation about how sneakers is actually the best song ever cuz it’s made for Korean fans who were in lockdown like bro idgaf the song still sucks 😭 still love all the girls and happy late bday yuna❤️
My friends told me that’s what JYP does though, launch a group with lots of energy and if they crack the number one spots on music shows, slowly invest less overtime to capitalize on the lingering fanbase. Which puts Nmixx in a dangerous spot since they aren’t lucrative yet. Lots of JYP artists leave after 5 years because they are basically kept in the basement since their “peak” already passed according to the company
This make sense and I think a lot of company follows as usually now the contract are 5 years from debut. So if only make sense to have a 5 year plan only and then see what happens. It doesn’t make sense business wise to keep pumping money to recruit new fans when old fans can just maintain a stable level.
This was so accurately put, we need consistency from the group and it's the agency's job to help provide that. I also really love it when artists are actively involved in the creative process because it creates better music honestly. I really hope JYP realizes his mistakes and goes back to their previous concept, I was really loving it. I would also love to see ITZY more involved in the creative process of their music.
Just a point to clarify, it's not JYP the man who produces NMIXX but a bunch of random westerner producer. Same thing for ITZY, he stopped producing for them since MITM
I liked Chesire but it’s not great. I expect more from Itzy. They gave us wannabe now they are giving us below average songs. And it’s all JYP’s fault. Jyp is giving Itzy & nmixx terrible songs. As a company they sure as hell doesn’t know what to do with their girl groups.
They should have given Nmixx's sound to Itzy. That was the correct and natural evolution to Itzy's sound. Itzy would have sold the experimental sound better as a senior group and it frees Nmixx up to do something more approachable for a rookie group
This is a great idea . I always thought Dice and O.O sounded more like Itzy . ( it would have spiced up itzy more) Boys like you and Cheshire could have gone to nmixx .I actually enjoy Nmixx when they showcase their powerhouse vocals . Both groups are amazing regardless
i never even thought about this but it makes so much sense. o.o and dice definitely give more itzy vibes than nmixx and nmixx would’ve ate up boys like u and especially chesire. even if those songs are more on the cringe side, i feel like since nmixx are rookies they would’ve made up for it and it would’ve fit them as a group better with their vocal tones, especially since they have some really young members too like kyujin and jiwoo
The problem for me is that their concepts became , “different for the sake of being different “ so we end up with weird shallow , fast fashion-like , songs , the only itzy title track I like is wannabe , it just fits right in , the weird thing is why has this became jyp’s new thing , cuz nmixx are having similar problems , since when did jyp became weird swirls of colors that don’t mesh together , at least for their newer groups which are supposed to carry them in the future
Not @ how JYP is not promoting them at all this era like they just gave them a debute stage at MAMA and called it a day ... they need to be promoted more this is not cutting it
I feel like if JYP doesn’t change it up right now Itzy‘s time as trendsetters are over. The kpop community has moved on to newer and fresher sounds and Itzy’s new challenge now is either following the new trends while giving it their own flavour somehow, going back to their original sounds while giving it a new twist or creating a completely new sound that will overtake the current trends.
I think what people also need to realize is people are complaining about JYP and its producers and not the girls. Anyway, ITZY was great with their city, streetsmart, funky sound, and it worked so well with their first three to five title tracks. JYP could've explored that sound further instead of trying a different style, and just getting lost in the process. You could see it in their MVs too.
ITZY is amazing for me they have different concepts & they're always being active & I'm okay with that bc they motivated me alot. A lot people saying there song is this or that... Bro i don't think they are falling!! They are going to show different concept & it's amazing for me!! Ngl Cheshire is so good after Sneakers & even bside Snowy & freaky is amazing!! They broke their own Checkmate album record which was 450k sell & Cheshire breaked that one with 660k with in a week so i don't think they are falling they are doin amazing like SKZ they both are most active bg & gg in 4th gen & I like that🖤 showing concepts, jp release+eng release+ k release. They worked hard this yr. & I appreciate that their Cheshire album is amazing. I loved it🖤.You guys need to know that they're going to touch that type popularity in 2023 concerts!! Now they will go to different countries manila+taiwan+Japan+bangkok and they perform in front of 20k+ fans in each arena!! They are going to touch high now they deserve universe🌌.
Yhh, I really agree. Snowy Cheshire and freaky even debuted on billboard hot 100songs the day it was released. THAT SAME DAY LOCO N SNEAKERS RECHARTED ON D CHART. NOW CHESHIRE IS #4 ON BILLBOARD WORLD ALBUM SALES. SO I DON'T EVEN SEE HOW THEY ARE FALLING. WITH ALL D COMEBACK THEY THEY MAKE NEW ACHIEVEMENTS.
ITZY ended for me at MITM. One of my fav M/Vs ever and then we got Loco (downgrade for me but i still enjoyed) and the we got that shoe massacre…. Im actually sad
Honestly they were the first gg I actually liked with wanna be, loco, not shy…but after that I didn’t really feel it anymore. Very sad, loved their upbeat happy songs
ITZY will definitely eat their performances on music shows and people will be hooked on this comeback. This comeback is the most mellow ITZY has released so far so people are really not expecting this kind of song from ITZY. People expect them to release a song like Mafia in the Morning. I miss the ITZY essence, the love your self concept, the breakdance, the iconic parts... I feel like JYP forget the real concept. For me it feels like JYP were having issues with continuing the general sound of ITZY. While I love all the songs, a different like not love for Sneakers, comebacks did get a bit predictable. This I think was creating issues with the longevity of the group. In fact I think Sneakers was intentional to push ITZY a bit out of their sound box. Also if I remember correctly JYP wanted ITZY to be a girl group with an experimental vibe. Which I am absolutely for! I think the girls are totally capable of pulling that off and I am excited to see if ITZY will continue with their future songs to provide interesting performances. As a Midzy I'll support them no matter what while also being honest
I honestly like a lot of different genres of music and I still play Mafia and Loco, but then Sneakers and BLY happened. I think Cheshire is better than their last 2 title tracks but it’s still meh. I agree that they peaked during their Wannabe era and I’m so scared of what their future’s gonna look like
Agreed. Since Wannabe the title tracks have slowly gone downhill. Cheshire was decent but I feel like everyone was claiming it was better than it actually is. I mean really, there comparing it to sneakers and boys like you. Not much competition😑
regardless of boys like you (i actually kinda liked that song tho) and sneakers, cheshire is for me just a good song in general with a great mv you hit it with it with loco where it feels like it's dated, like after a few listens i just can't seem to want to listen to it again. i'll listen to and sing along it if it plays, but unlike their other songs, i feel tired just thinking of trying to search and play their song. not sure how to translate it but in philippines we have the word 'umay', like if you eat a delicious food but it's just too sweet/strong so few bites in and you no longer want to eat it, or just this song that you keep on playing nonstop that eventually you get tired of it, that to me was loco and i didn't even get to play it as much to feel that tired of that song.
i think jyp is changing too much with itzy in negative ways.. like he’s cash cowing them but not to make them successful. & personally id have promoted ryujin after her massive blow up in wannabe & boosted her to my best capability but nope! lost the opportunity & the momentum. cause that’s the thing, the wannabe moment is gone. it was so big & it got wasted.
I have not been a big fan of Itzys music…until Cheshire. I think Cheshire is close to top 5 for them and Snowy is top 10. Very good mini album. I would be excited if they continued with kind of Purple Kiss adjacent style.
I thought I was the only one who still didn't like this comeback. I'm definitely not hating on them for it I just feel like their music has been very flat for me since Loco. (Including Blah Blah and BLY). People are saying that they're back but imo it's not even close to the same level as MITM, Wannabe, or Dalla Dalla for me. But then I just won't listen until they put out a song I like. I feel like the people that genuinely hate on them are being extra. Music is subjective and not every artist will cater to your taste🤷🏻♀️
they need better directors, producers, LET THEM WRITE THEIR SONGS TOO! even if they don’t know how to or whatever idc just teach them they’re literally making music. anyways i personally would give them proper vocal training cuz even if they have decent vocals they still need to hit them notes ( the reason why i think vocals are important in music is bcuz they’re singing and not just rapping, maybe lia is a good vocalist but that’s it. yeji and chaeryeong and very decent in singing, yuna isnt really a vocalist and ryujin isn’t a vocalist at all. so they need to at least know how to sing or be a little more developed so not only they become more successful, but at least sound good for their own midzys who support them. i don’t mean they sound bad but it’s more of no vocals.) yeah that’s my opinion
I personally think Chesire is one of the best Itzy titles. I also liked Sneakers so idk. For me i have liked all their songs, i think the weakest for me was Icy and Not Shy, Boys like you. And i still dont understand why Wannabe is THAT itzy song, its a whatever song for me. I think that after Not Shy their music got better for me. Maybe iam weird. And about Nmixx, for me i liked their debut it wasnt as bad as people said it is
Please refrain from saying JYP and using his pronouns cause he's not the whole entertainment. He doesn't make all the decisions for all the groups. That's why there are divisions in JYPE. JYPE is not JYP.
Hard blocked twice out of my life and only a limited number of songs and videos from itzy recently have interested me. Jyp fashion choices for every group have always been crap to me to the point i can't even look at it.
the girls already proved that they are capable of writing in their pre debut era n in their latest interviews theyve been talking about how they wish for the songs that they composed n wrote to be featured on their new albums
ive seen some of chaeryeongs lyrics n the girl can write n its def better than lots of the lyrics the girls been getting like idk what their division is on
I think this need to be considered with their JPY ENT buisness plan and set up. This is pure speculation but let’s say the company have a 5 year plan for the group. My speculation is that ITZY were meant to bring in more revenue with western world tours as comparing to TWICE which has more members (more cost intensive) They were meant to really be at the peak of their career but COVID happened and even till now the logistic can be a nightmare. I think the first three comebacks produce by JYP sets the tone of the branding of their sound (which is suppose to be breaking the mould? Being yourself??? Idk) and maybe JYP thought the offshore songwriters can then follow. Then he focus on the next girl group and I think they were trying to one up ITZY but for the domestic Korean market since TWICE is still around so they have to brand it different so they aren’t selling the same product potentially. But Korean don’t really like the Super western sound and mind you NMIXX is even more non mainstream than ITZY. Itzy probably will be bigger if it weren’t for covid with better comebacks and promotion but I feel like after 3 years usually the company slows down on recruiting new fans and usually the existing fan base supports the group and into member’s solo career with the exception that JYP usually try to promote the girls as a group until they renewal from their initial contracts (from what we’ve observed with twice)
Thank you about the divergence from their theme! I’m so mad! They have a concept! It’s self empowerment! Stick with it!!! Not Shy was kinda on theme but not really (too lovey dovey focused). Then MITM, wasn’t like???? Where’s their sound? Then Loco went off the deep end and made a full on love song (the sound was kinda okay). And then Sneakers was kidz bop? What’s their direction? What’s their sound?? What’s their concept???? I loved their themes because it was not about love and relationships. They were fun and tough but not full on bad ass girl crush? It was teen crush, You know? I loved it! MITM felt too mature for them imho. Loco was fine, but didn’t feel like an Itzy teen chrush empowerment song, just a love song any K-pop group could do. Sneakers was an over correction. They were like “fine you want fun, I’m different songs? Here you go” and then went too farback past teen crush to kidz bop. Cheshire feels like they’re on the right path but they’re so far behind that they’re still majorly lost.
As a casual listener, all i can say is i’ve never heard a great or amazing itzy song. I’ve heard a few good ones, but not great. I feel like a major part of it is that they don’t hold the reigns creatively and don’t have that much input to their own music, which makes its feel disingenuous (or like its simply trying to hop on the new wave at the moment). Their music doesn’t leave a lasting impression or feel like it’ll still sound good a year or two from now (my personal opinion). Plus, even the music given to them just sounds like “young” music because they’re young adult women. Like the songs aren’t catered for them specifically at all which would add a bit of soul/heart to the sound. That being said, they’re also definitely performance idols which is a blessing and a curse. They’re charismatic, pretty, can dance, and have great personalities, but their singing is “cool” at best and they have forced rappers. As a black kpop listener, I hate how often the genre literally forces a mediocre, talking-over-the-beat, soulless rap, and itzy’s one group that’s guilty of this, though not of their own volition, but still.
Good. I like things to have no barriers. I don't understand this question of "as a black person", but anyway, I'm from Brazil, everything is different here. I agree with you on some things, but these problems are and can be attributed to any kpop group. Regarding rap, I agree with you in the sense that they, like the vast majority of groups, push the envelope in this "classification", since the interesting thing from my point of view is that a true rapper would be able to attribute this art to a different facet. (this exists in some groups), but the vast majority try to be a manufactured generic form. But it's also difficult to put up barriers. In kpop, it's part of the members having positions, this seemed cool when I discovered kpop, but then it got boring, because it limits and hinders rather than helps (not all groups/music need rap, or destructive choreography ). Especially in Itzy, this happens because they are very close in technique and skills. The only one I consider to be a rapper is Yuna (even if she doesn't write, because for me there is no rule, since it's art). The other girls have good raps at specific moments. Their strong point is dancing (of course they were mainly created for that), and they really need to improve their vocals. The songs are too high pitched for their natural voices. With the right adjustments, they would be making much better use of their talent. I heard that they make up too (which I don't doubt). It's a shame that things are like this.
I also think it's because people were complaining about they "always" having the same concept.-without a decent evolution of it- so, JYPE tried to "improve" their concept(???) Or whatever, try to show they can do diversity of concepts, but that wasn't even the point 😩😩😩 itzy are good in their "I'm different, I love myself" shit and that's it. They have to STOP "TRYING"
Imo when debuted many did say it was false to claim them leader's of 4th Gen, I mean all bcos of Big3 they were handed title, G Idle and IZONE were their before them with much better release's, I liked ITZY earlier work but it just got worse imo the more years went by, for like 1.5 year's
Dalla Dalla - Icy - Wannabe era was the best to me. But people had to complain about them repeating the self love message, so they slowly left that concept with Not Shy and completely abandoned it with Mitm & Loco. I'm sorry, but I hate Itzy singing these weird ass love songs, them singing about boys and stuff. I still listen to these songs, but to me they just don't scream "ITZY" to me. I remember looking at teasers for Dalla Dalla with them saying "I don't care what they say. I am just who I am." and I LOVED it. I was obsessed. To me that's the image JYP originally build for them and SHOULD'VE kept going with. They should've explored the concept more, looked for ways to make it less repetitive and they should've let Itzy contribute in making the songs. They could've made it more authentic by including more vulnerable songs about their personal experience, ect. People complained and they changed their concept too soon. It didn't feel like a natural progression like with Twice for example. Sometimes it feels like it divided the fandom into two parts. Some want the old Itzy sound back and some want the Loco Itzy sound. But maybe that's just me. They completely ruined Itzy with these weird concept changes. The company messed up and now they don't know how to fix it. Not to forget the ABSOLUTE MESS that was Checkmate/Sneakers promotion... I don't know why so many people love and hype up Cheshire. It's not better than any of the other songs Itzy has put out this year and it just felt like a bad attempt at damage control. Like they changed their original concept/sound to Crazy in love era sound, then to Sneakers sound (which is a little more like origunal Itzy sound?) and suddenly back to a sound that's more like Crazy in love era????
I actually fkz with Sneakers ngl but I recognize it’s just not it Cheshire even with that in mind is just objectively a 9/10. Easily their best title track but man it really has been a bit since right? I recognize their faults but I love this group. I really do man, let’s hope JYP follows up properly while the iron is hot
I still don't understand why are people hating on Sneakers, Boys like you, Cheshire etc. 😂 Those are such a good songs and the songs that made me midzy 😆
The backstage/behind the scene ma episodes are just trash.. the staff don’t even edit it, it’s always just compiling random videos and dialogues of Itzy them uploading them. Less is more. Quality over quantity. The worst thing about checkmate was they were forced to do a tiktok snipet/spoiler of sneakers where the girls were playing around with food while faking to like the dance to sneakers. The girls themselves don’t like sneakers. So many performances where’s n they looked unhappy while singing it. They are young women, they ARE THE MARKET, they know what’s good and what’s not. Cheshire album was damage control.l, hence it was rushed, it only even had 4 songs, barely any hype or promotion. It didn’t place top 10 of billboard due to the different day of release, but thankfully due to loyal MIDZYs, it still got over 1 million orders. Also that they still don’t have legit collabs… the closest was Ryujin & Yeji with Bebe rexha but it was just a performance, that was initiated by the girls themselves and not the company… When will we see,, ___ ft ITZY Or Itzy ft _____. And I know most MIDZYs are NOT in Korea, their fanbase are INTERNATIONAL. It would be nice for another better ENGLISH SINGLE. besides all the girls are fluent in English, that’s freaking rare, but they’re not using it to their advantage. Lia and ryujin are good lyrics and great at conveying what they mean, they could write something good. Yeji and Chae are freaking dance machines they should get credit for choreography. Yuna is a good artist she should have help with the art direction.
Itzy fell off with Mafia in the Morning. They have the worse title tracks. Every comeback starting with Mafia theyve had better b sides. Ive been ITZYs biggest fan since I fell in lust with Yuna in ICY when she was sitting on the wall kicking her legs back n forth but even I can take my fan boy blinders off and see who's ever in charge of them is making bad musical decisions. Even with the latest comeback the only good part of the song is the chorus but Chesire isnt a good enough song for me to listen long enough to get to that part. Mostly Yuna and Chaeryeongs visuals are what keeping me following them but that's going to get old one day.
Okay i am a ITZY fan but i def less int from wannabe era, they had PLENTY of good promotions and JYP was doing well so far… i DIDNT even know when Cheshire was coming out due to the lack of promotions… even though i follow them on social media platforms. usually groups would flood my page with cb announcements but JYP really went down another level since wannabe. im very sad cuz the girls have INSANE talent. like their studio chroom was on ANOTHER level. why they aren’t getting as much hype cuz until loco era, all their songs attracted INTERNATIONAL fanbase, so they have a much stronger international fanbase compared to Korean fanbase. So when sneakers came out, it attracted the Korean fanbases much more than international fanbases, so the international fanbase got weaker…. that’s just what I think though
They were leading the wrong direction. They are not a cutesy group. They should have been given BLACKPINK and Easpa type of songs. I think they would Have become more popular
Started as a big fan of them, bought their ICY and Not Shy album, but then they released one bad(Experimental) song after the other and new debuting groups just had better songs and I lost interest. I really didnt like "In the morning, and LOCO, Sneakers" so I moved on to where the good songs are at. The members are gorgeous and hard working, its the Management that is BAD!!! JYP is doing the same crap with NMIXX, bad songs for good groups. Google trends shows how interest compares with other newer groups, and they are catching up with ITZY.
jyp isnt ruining itzy musically. but hes ruining them promo wise. itzys division doesnt care abt them at all, and if u look at who else was in that division (got7) everything kinda checks out. theyre still amazing, yall jus prefer other new groups now, nothing wrong with that, but stop acting like itzys getting worse when its just their promotion, + new music yall prefer??
JYP needs to give the girls better songs! They don't do their own music but for idols it is mostly alright. So it is not the girls fault. I hope the Kpop community gives them another chance.
I agree that JYP is the reason for their music so it's on them when people don't like their music. I do personally think JYP has done a bad job with selecting music for some of their groups for most of the year. However Nmixx's music has gotten a lot better and Itzy's latest album is good. Based on my tastes I agree Boys Like You was terrible, and sneakers wasn't very good. I do however really like Cheshire and the whole album, is it a 10/10 no but it's still very good. But I'm also one who can't stand the music by New Jeans and Le Sserafim so my opinion might be out of touch with the average KPOP fan.
But at the end of the day, this is an issue mainly with western fans. Funny how "everyone" keeps saying that Sneakers flopped but it's one of their best charting and selling comeback
The problem with your analysis is that you’re basing it off of off fans’ idea about how groups should be and should sound. Y’all do not come from a true musical perspective. Groups should be able to experiment and fans can vote on the sound based on what they buy. But y’all don’t buy music, you stream. Streaming doesn’t necessarily give an accurate approval/disapproval rating. This past album was one of their best selling albums. That alone shows that people are willing to buy their album based on the songs they hear. Because casual music listeners do that. That don’t over analyze songs and comebacks and the meaning or function of it all. That’s what hyper focused fans do. If ITZY is losing it’s original fan base, but are gaining more casual fans, that’s not a bad thing. Fans need to realize this.
This comment aged like milk. Their last album "Born To Be" dropped massively in sales. Itzy isn't the group it used to be and that is ok, why deflect the reality?
@@milli3377 It’s not a deflection. The songs that y’all claim to be horrible have better sales and the songs y’all love seem to not do so hot based on a few weeks. What y’all don’t seem to understand is that albums continue to sell after their promotion time. You’re also looking at a mini album that is missing one member. That can affect sales. People who have no concept of sales or just how music works need to shut up and sit down. If you don’t want to listen to ITZY anymore, that’s a you issue.....but don’t make it seem like they’ve been on the decline just because you’re disgruntled.
@@michikodesu You're simply completely wrong. Casual listeners don't spend money on albums, fans mass buy them. Casual listeners stream songs. If Itzy is losing on both sides, there is a disinterest as a whole. So stop talking about music knowledge when your logic is simply wrong.
Honestly, the only bad Titel is sneakers. The others are fine, nothing special to write home except for Wannabe and Voltage, who might be their best ones. Also, the argument that the last comebacks flopped is nonsense. If you look at sales, they sold more with every korean comeback. They so far have failed to create a signature sound that makes itzy special, and some concepts are pretty basic. Overall, tho you're right, they need a new production crew that produces higher quality titles and music for the girls. Because their talents are criminally missussed.
Ever since they drop sneakers (hate the song so much) they been releasing mediocre songs like they been going futher and fuuther away from their group concept like it a whole new itzy
I enjoy Sneakers. Their Japanese Blah Blah is really good. Boys like you i think is really good. Sorry tho bro, Cheshire is great, and they need to change and evolve. My first time I must disagree with you. But as you, and ne stated, it's opinion based, so I must hardly disagree with your opinion when it comes to Cheshire. Times, and music change, but their past a sides, from debut are legendary but now we get some hits and some misses. But this Cheshire to me and alot of others thunk its great. Hence why their popularity and sales continue to go up. But hot takes are hot takes. But if you own a label and their dales actually go up, why would you go back. So for you and others who either agree with you or somewhat agree will probably be more disappointed come in the future. Most of what you say tho when it comes to things and groups, I do side/agree with. Saw them in concert in NY, they slayed. This one agree to disagree. Keep up the good work. Like yourself, Dreamcatcher stan here possibly the biggest but won't argue about that, lol.
I'm not an Itzy's fan and i disagree with you for Sneakers, i didn't like at all their previous song, i didn't like any songs of Itzy before Sneakers, i love Sneakers (i disagree with Itzy's fan opinion), i like Boys like you and i like Cheshire! I prefer their recent songs then their old song! I want JYP to release Itzy's songs more like Cheshire, Sneakers
Good point!
Yep!!
unpopular opinion: Cheshire isn’t that good compared to other itzy title tracks, it’s just that sneakers and boys like you were so bad people lowered their standards for itzy
YES!
Fr
honestly if you ask me, GALACTIKA should step back in and make another song for the girls. they’re the minds behind Wannabe, Dalla Dalla and Loco, i feel they really grasp Itzy’s sound and i kinda wish they had a more active role in their musical direction. and yeah, while they also co-produced Sneakers, the difference, i feel, is that for the previous three it was just them doing their thing with no other producers involved. looking at the credits for Sneakers, it feels like a “too many cooks spoil the broth” situation.
EDIT: my mistake, GALACTIKA didn’t compose the song Sneakers, they just co-wrote it. so my point still stands lol
Cheshire is one of those songs that don't feel like an actual comeback but like a filler song for me. Sort of like Japanese songs
I totally agree, and more recently yeji brought up that they write music but the company don’t release them…
i think mitm was their best concept change. it was such a huge shift for them but they actually executed it sooooo well.
Omg I know! It’s so wild that they sing live 90% of the time and no one (besides MIDZY) talks about it
They sing live but let’s face it the songs are not vocally challenging and when you do hear them perform it’s mostly a lot of hollering and pitchy notes.
they sing bad with bad songs
Imo singing live is a standard for every artist tho.
Singing live doesn’t excuse bad discography
Sneakers was warning, a death omen.
Definitely an interesting point with member credits. Looking back the song I liked most from JYP often do have member song credits
Even GOT7 who were heavily controlled when they delivered a song with member involvement it was a banger such as Page and TWICE’s latest songs most love have Chaeyoung credited
(I don’t hate Loco & Sneakers, I just personally wouldn’t choose to voluntarily play the songs casually)
Honestly, I wish ITZY had a similar direction to Le Sserafim in terms of discography. Like imagine if ITZY released songs like Fearless & ANTIFRAGILE? So much potential.
my biggest thing is whenever I say itzys music sucks recently theirs always fans who r like “r u even a fan” or “ur using aespa fans comments” like stfu ur favs r flopping this weirdo wrote this whole dissertation about how sneakers is actually the best song ever cuz it’s made for Korean fans who were in lockdown like bro idgaf the song still sucks 😭 still love all the girls and happy late bday yuna❤️
this is honestly really upsetting. Yeji even bought up the inconsistent song concern to JYP in one of their videos. Bro hardly acknowledged it
My friends told me that’s what JYP does though, launch a group with lots of energy and if they crack the number one spots on music shows, slowly invest less overtime to capitalize on the lingering fanbase.
Yeah that basically applies to all JYP groups. Twice is the odd one out since they're huge from day one and far from falling out imo.
I see that a lot of people hate loco and I can't understand them
Personally think this is one of their best eras
Just a point to clarify, it's not JYP the man who produces NMIXX but a bunch of random westerner producer. Same thing for ITZY, he stopped producing for them since MITM
Yes I understand I’m saying who he hires to produce the music.
@@Taejiu lmao gang thinks he knows💀
I liked Chesire but it’s not great. I expect more from Itzy. They gave us wannabe now they are giving us below average songs. And it’s all JYP’s fault. Jyp is giving Itzy & nmixx terrible songs. As a company they sure as hell doesn’t know what to do with their girl groups.
nmixx doesn't have terible songs at all
They should have given Nmixx's sound to Itzy. That was the correct and natural evolution to Itzy's sound. Itzy would have sold the experimental sound better as a senior group and it frees Nmixx up to do something more approachable for a rookie group
I made a similar comment months ago. Loco should have been given to Nmixx and O.O to Itzy.
This is a great idea . I always thought Dice and O.O sounded more like Itzy . ( it would have spiced up itzy more)
Boys like you and Cheshire could have gone to nmixx .I actually enjoy Nmixx when they showcase their powerhouse vocals .
!!!!!!!!!! :) ;)
no
“i dont think itzy has every been up” where were you from dalla dalla, icy, and wannabe? 😭
Sir, Swipe was on Crazy in Love, not checkmate.
Not @ how JYP is not promoting them at all this era like they just gave them a debute stage at MAMA and called it a day ... they need to be promoted more this is not cutting it
Cheshire made me appreciate Sneakers for some reason 💀💀 like, it was so... calm? it's so quiet that made me miss Sneakers' bubbly sound
!!!!!!!!!! :) ;)
Wannabe to Not Shy to Mafia in the Morning to Loco was the best shining moment of Itzy.
ITZY ended for me at MITM. One of my fav M/Vs ever and then we got Loco (downgrade for me but i still enjoyed) and the we got that shoe massacre…. Im actually sad
Being a fan since day 1, Cheshire completely saved the group for me. Snowy is addicting. Sneakers and boys like you was wack.
Not much competition😑
regardless of boys like you (i actually kinda liked that song tho) and sneakers, cheshire is for me just a good song in general with a great mv
you hit it with it with loco where it feels like it's dated, like after a few listens i just can't seem to want to listen to it again. i'll listen to and sing along it if it plays, but unlike their other songs, i feel tired just thinking of trying to search and play their song. not sure how to translate it but in philippines we have the word 'umay', like if you eat a delicious food but it's just too sweet/strong so few bites in and you no longer want to eat it, or just this song that you keep on playing nonstop that eventually you get tired of it, that to me was loco and i didn't even get to play it as much to feel that tired of that song.
i think jyp is changing too much with itzy in negative ways.. like he’s cash cowing them but not to make them successful.
You can say whatever you want but loco is a timeless bop end of descasion
Jyp fashion choices for every group have always been crap to me to the point i can't even look at it.
the girls already proved that they are capable of writing in their pre debut era n in their latest interviews theyve been talking about how they wish for the songs that they composed n wrote to be featured on their new albums
ive seen some of chaeryeongs lyrics n the girl can write n its def better than lots of the lyrics the girls been getting like idk what their division is on
!!!!!!!! :) ;)
I think this need to be considered with their JPY ENT buisness plan and set up.
This is pure speculation but let’s say the company have a 5 year plan for the group.
My speculation is that ITZY were meant to bring in more revenue with western world tours as comparing to TWICE which has more members (more cost intensive)
They were meant to really be at the peak of their career but COVID happened and even till now the logistic can be a nightmare.
I've lived in Cheshire, England. The pronunciation is ches-sheer. Think of shear dress, or shear top.x
its actually more like chesh-er. sincerely someone who currently lives in cheshire.
!!!!!!! :) ;)
“Never been up” huh? remember dalla dalla and wannabe?
True. if someone tells you to choose between chesire and Icy, we all know what you'll choose
Ting ting ting set the tone in my mind for where they were headed.which was not a good place
Was always a casual listener of itzy and don’t see myself Stanning them in the future, their music is not really my style
I actually fkz with Sneakers ngl but I recognize it’s just not it
Cheshire even with that in mind is just objectively a 9/10. Easily their best title track but man it really has been a bit since right?
I recognize their faults but I love this group. I really do man, let’s hope JYP follows up properly while the iron is hot
you don't know how jype is organised. twice, itzy and nmixx are handled by totallt different entities within the company.
Also that they still don’t have legit collabs… the closest was Ryujin & Yeji with Bebe rexha but it was just a performance, that was initiated by the girls themselves and not the company…
When will we see,, ___ ft ITZY
Or Itzy ft _____.
JYP =/= JYPE
People trash Sneakers so much, but it's really what got me hooked on itzy. Wannabe drew me in, but I found Sneakers so addictive.
Straight facts here
It hurts me but I have to agree 😢
I Strongly agree.
I even cant get into some new songs of twice after cry for nothing sounds as fresh.
After Wannabe their singles were a downgrade.
Google trends shows how interest compares with other newer groups, and they are catching up with ITZY.
jyp isnt ruining itzy musically. but hes ruining them promo wise. itzys division doesnt care abt them at all, and if u look at who else was in that division (got7) everything kinda checks out. theyre still amazing, yall jus prefer other new groups now, nothing wrong with that, but stop acting like itzys getting worse when its just their promotion, + new music yall prefer??
idk how jyp can let their boys like six do.. everything and give their girl groups atoms it’s embarrassing
4th gen is the most talented yet the most disappointing in terms of music.
Every single word spoken in this video is truth
I don't get it 😭 Cheshire is my favorite.
I don't say the girls are perfect idols but they do have some talent. Love their dancing.
Sneakers sounded like it was made just for tiktok or something it was so weak as a whole...... i find cheshire ok nothing amazing
Jyp is 100% flopping
But at the end of the day, this is an issue mainly with western fans. Funny how "everyone" keeps saying that Sneakers flopped but it's one of their best charting and selling comeback
“Slowly”
Even their japanese releases were better than their recent Korean comebacks😭
2 copies of checkmate? man.....they really got us huh
This is a pretty old video that I don’t necessarily agree with, but this logic is very flawed.
Exacly ❤ @@michikodesu
@@michikodesu You're simply completely wrong. Casual listeners don't spend money on albums, fans mass buy them. Casual listeners stream songs. If Itzy is losing on both sides, there is a disinterest as a whole. So stop talking about music knowledge when your logic is simply wrong.
Itzy still has the best discography than other groups, you guys just like to throw hate at the group.
I love loco though
Honestly, the only bad Titel is sneakers. The others are fine, nothing special to write home except for Wannabe and Voltage, who might be their best ones. Also, the argument that the last comebacks flopped is nonsense. If you look at sales, they sold more with every korean comeback. They so far have failed to create a signature sound that makes itzy special, and some concepts are pretty basic. Overall, tho you're right, they need a new production crew that produces higher quality titles and music for the girls. Because their talents are criminally missussed.
why do i feel like they changed ryujin’s hair back to make up for the change 😭 is it just me?
then maybe they should stop trying to erase her & push her to the side as well
Chesire was a mid song but definitely more better than Sneakers/Boys like you bla3
Ever since they drop sneakers (hate the song so much) they been releasing mediocre songs like they been going futher and fuuther away from their group concept like it a whole new itzy
I haven’t cared about itzy since 2020 and honestly I don’t care anymore
Wheeeeeeeeeeeee free fallin
just wanna say, cheshire is pronounced as chesh-er. sincerely, someone from cheshire.
this channels "about description" already shows how clapped of a channel this is lmao
Yeji rocks
I just cant listen to cheschire the chorus was so bad. It angers me
Itzy comebacks are successful though😭😭
Their last hit was wannabe..we can't expect the girls to release a hit song everytime they comeback
chaeryeong is a amazing dancer ❤😊
I'm not an Itzy's fan and i disagree with you for Sneakers, i didn't like at all their previous song, i didn't like any songs of Itzy before Sneakers, i love Sneakers (i disagree with Itzy's fan opinion), i like Boys like you and i like Cheshire! I prefer their recent songs then their old song! I want JYP to release Itzy's songs more like Cheshire, Sneakers
