The real solution is to make fewer products and products that last longer. Currently, we are making products with built-in obsolescence of just a few years. For example, cars were built to last 40-50 years. Now, it's more like 10 years. We are also forced to junk our computers and phones in about 3-4 years or even less. We are increasingly moving away from a mindset of "Less is More" to one that promotes irresponsible consumerism. I am wearing a cotton shirt right now at home that is over 22 years old. It's faded and all but it's clean, it is serving the purpose and it's cotton.
Ten thousand people flying in from all over the world to a city to attend a climate conference and adding to the emissions is the kind of intelligence we are using presently and is similar to the recycling efforts we are making. This has to change, and we need to take less of everything out of the ground, be it trees, fossil fuels, or metals and teach people to adopt a simpler and a more sustainable lifestyle.
Policies should focus on reducing the use of hazardous materials and spreading them all over our air ,water, and soil (e.g., chemicals, fertilizers, microplastics, etc.).
I guess what I am saying is that prevention is way better than cure.

In Germany we have collecting points for glass. There are different containers for each color. The collected glass is cleaned and sorted. After that new bottles or jars are made out of it.

the nice thing with glass is that it's infinetly 100% recyclable, compared to metals such as iron, steel, copper, etc. which has a net loss when recycled due to slag.

    • @davidb2206

That's because Germans were a civilized people (until invaded with third-worlders). The third-worlders where I live (in the U.S.) will not comply and obey even the simplest sorting rules. They will throw food in the glass recycling bin. They won't pay any attention to colors. That is why they are the third world. No discipline and no consciousness, nor any responsibility. A German system won't work in most of the world.

GLASS RECYCLINIG: Excellent idea. You probably have come up with all my sugestions, but here they are anyway. Subdivide the colour glasses even further, It appears that brown and green and white (transparent no colour) are all being mix together, seperate them, have large pools of water where the bottles can soak in for a day or so, hence the labels will unstick almost alone. For extra pieces such as metal, have them go past strong magnets, and plastic I dont know, but I am sure the plastic recycling industry will come up with some options. All this equipment will cost money, so stop giving away your products. Use that money to pay for the necessary equipment. Last but not least employ someone with business expertize to maximize the output and minimize the imput. I am sure you all need money to survive, and if making money doesnt sit well with you, then find worthy parties: hospitals, schools, etc and donate to them. Best of luck, I think you are great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we need to recycle asphault shingles, too. 11-13 million tons in the US alone. Could extract the tar, use it for tar-paper, chip-seal etc.

The turbine blade filets make me think of a piano. I wonder if that’d work. Or if the fiberglass can be reverted back to sand.

When we drove semi we saw many roads especially interstates the mid summer in South Dakota and Texas and other states that had ruts so deep that you couldn't drive in those lanes. We were told the ruts were due to using recycled asphalt.

the wind turbines sections may make fantastic slim line rain water tanks. you just need to cap the bottom PERFECTLY, that may be a deal breaker.

The video "How People Profit Off America's Garbage | World Wide Waste | Business Insider" is truly impressive! It reveals how people turn waste into a source of profit, contributing to reducing pollution and recycling effectively. It's worth pondering the potential of "garbage" in the future!

There are very VERY few things in the waste stream that are "garbage" or un-reusable. Almost everything can be recycled or reclaimed, the only factor that dissuades industry from doing it is the extra labor and time it costs.
